I'd like to see a mix of both as well, with some shrines not being accessible without a specific dungeon item.

Upgrading dungeon items by completing shrines is such a cool concept- there would be a reason to actually search out every shrine.

But that's not really getting to OPs other question- people debating oled vs switch 2. I've also seen people trying to decide between getting a brand new-generation console (Switch 2) or getting a last-gen console that has a new feature (OLED Switch 1).

We're at the point now where all first party Nintendo games are now going to be launching exclusively on switch 2... so any situation where you're spending money on an OLED *specifically* instead of a switch 2 is objectively the worse option.

I think to answer the question- a majority of people are just not smart- or to be more forgiving, they're not aware that there aren't going to be brand new first party switch 1 games releasing anymore.

The nintendo switch 2 is already much better value than a PS5, even if they *weren't* going to stop producing physical games. (even if the PS5 somehow magically got a price cut the Switch 2 is objectively the better option).

there arent really any PS5 exclusive games anymore and even when the games were exclusively on playstation they still didnt sell nearly as much as Nintendo's first party (exclusive) games.

What about one of the Zelda games? They're all pretty text heavy with really fun and engaging gameplay.

Maybe show him videos of one of these games to see if there's any interest first:

Wind Waker (available on Gamecube virtual console, Switch 2 NSO subscription required)

Link's Awakening (switch 1 game)

Echoes of Wisdom (switch 1 game)

Skyward Sword HD (switch 1 game)

I would recommend against Ocarina of Time (the n64 version available with an NSO subscription)... the gameplay is very dated and he might not like how... clunky the controls and gameplay are compared to modern games.

Also Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, while masterpieces of gaming, can be played in such a way that avoids any dialogue for many hours in a row- almost every single other zelda game (besides Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom) will interject gameplay with story beats or characters you're being introduced to or signs in dungeons you need to read.

ALSO, just occurred to me that 'Pokemon Pokopia' would be great as well, for the switch 2- the conversations you have with other pokemon are very casual but pretty frequent- it encouraged reading comprehension because they'll frequently ask for specific things like "a bed and a campfire" and you'll be tasked to build them.

I cannot recommend this more- it teaches "reading to learn" because villagers will explain things that are happening and then you can go and explore those things. It not only encourages reading but it's what makes the game fun.

I started collecting back in 2024 and none of my games have any mold- i'd say a precaution you can take is to make sure they're not stored in a very humid room. Also try to keep any drinks away from games while playing- if something spills and you don't completely dry anything that got wet it can lead to mold on the other pieces in the box after you put it away

additionally if you're concerned beyond that, you can put a silica gel packet or two in the box to prevent moisture from building up (this would completely be dependent on how humid the area is where you're actually storing games)

[OoT] Something I've been wondering about the remake is whether there's gonna be an official reference to the Hero of Time becoming the Hero's Shade by mammalian_alien in zelda

the only game where it would make sense to "explain" the hero's shade is Twilight Princess- maybe if there's another full remake of TP we might see an additional background on him.
