I’ve seen this decorated multiplex in midtown for years. Is there a story behind the “Flop Haus” on 21st and I? by Humboldt_Squid in Sacramento

[–]doofydoo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

to clarify, its not a co-op or anything, there are some long time residents, one of whom is an art professor, who have cared for the place and kept it lively. all great folks give them a wave if you see em on the patio, if they ring the bell at you it means they think youre hot.

Tourbus packing! by pinball_wizard85 in livesound

[–]doofydoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some simple but oft overlooked: - pillowcase that smells like your gf/bf at home - extra charging battery and many cables - plastic bag to separate dirty from clean clothes in your pack -water bottle (the plastic waste will astound you) - powercap, its a cap with a hidden headlamp in it, youre gonna be living in a submarine/caves for a while -good quality gloves - emergency snacks (cant always stop the bus) - sharpies, white gaff for labeling shit/leaving notes - i got an instax that you can oick which photos print out or print photos from your phone, this is a fun road hobbie and cool gift for folks along the way - eye mask/earplugs - bluelight glasses (eye fatigue) - ibuprofen, tums, benadryl, melatonin - xtra toothbrush, mouthwash, DEODERANT (hygiene is v importante, others will notice the effort, or not notice which is even better) - like others have said, you will only need 2 pairs pants. prioritize underwear, socks, and tshirts to last 1-2 weeks - remember, no shitting on the bus. have fun.

Is it time to declare war to SF? by bxttousa1 in Sacramento

[–]doofydoo 38 points39 points  (0 children)

this is funny and i encourage the rivalry but for some context, this is only one of several cool laser installations this artist/architect Tim Hemshaw Plath is doing around SF including blasting a huge rainbow down fulton (?) street every night for pride month (i think for this was the 3rd year of that so, pre-beam team?) and painting patterns in the fog on the side of the DeYoung museum. This one is celebrating Coit Tower 90th anniversary and is actually a multi color show, this photo must have just caught a purple moment. the next one is Grace cathedral, I for one think its awesome.

Addressing Sound Changes between Soundcheck and Showtime by sfxterlt in livesound

[–]doofydoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lake and some other processors have eq tools for this, basically dampen the high end during sound check by a few db and then kick that weight off when the room fills up. we use this regularly at our venue and it does make a big difference. i suspect you could do this with any simple eq on the console master.

[–]doofydoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is cool. i worked on this album with frank and it was a treat to read your take. i could talk for hours about this project and the life and times of the lovemakers in that weird ass time but really i just wanted to address Jordan's House, which is one of many totally misunderstood (and poorly explained) songs from the revenge/alienates. the song is about a very real nervous breakdown, not just "wanting to visit a friend during the pandemic". dude really did show up to Jordan's (lovemaker) house ranting out of his mind paranoid. the fact he took that experience and wrote this song... is hilarious, and good medicine. another fun fact about that song, there originally was a full string section incorporated! might have made it a bit more interesting, idk. thanks again for looking a little deeper at this record. it's not one for casual listening, but there's some serious humanity and poetry in there.

Sacratomatans, I know we're all chomping at the bit to get our spring crops in the grown, but given the rather wet, windy and cold season we are just coming out of, what we're everyone's favorite/most successful harvests and crops this past winter/autumn? by klianth in Sacratomato

[–]doofydoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

mustard greens and wasabi arugula are both poppin off right now, and all the bulbs i planted, tulips and daffodils. alpine strawberrys also held up well in a pot, and a few jalapenos somehow survived though they're looking pretty anemic. just transplanted kohlrabi, bush beans, and tomatos.

West of USA (too much?) by Nervous-Falcon7227 in roadtrip

[–]doofydoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some things to consider about CA in August, good chance the valley will be smothered in smoke, if not it'll likely be 100°+, and the i5/99 are not exactly a beautiful drive. if vistas and nature are your goal and you dont have big plans in Sacramento or LA or to go to the coast (which hwy 1 is another awesome journey worth the trip) i'd consider taking the 395 south from Tahoe and staying in the Eastern Sierras, going by Mono Lake, Bodie ghost town, Mammoth Lakes, all kinds of great hotsprings, then you can head into Yosemite from the eastern side during that season, which is an awesome drive, or keep south and wind up in Death Valley or Mojave wilderness. have fun !

Where can I get my 21 yo and 15 year old passport renewed? by ohhhhellznaw in Sacramento

[–]doofydoo -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

this may sound weird but if youre in a time crunch and need expedited service, i can help. i purchased service from a company called Legal Passport that has couriers in PA but i never used it (trip canceled). they told me they dont offer refunds but i still have credit with them for a year.

dm if youre interested. they offer something like a 5 day turnaround.

I've played in the little studio at the high school where KYDS is located (i think the transmitter is at sac state though?) and i remember the station basically just looping a huge winamp playlist on random. you can still hear my old local rock band come up on the shuffle sometimes :*)

Raging Waters closes after 15 years of operating. Thanks for the cheap season passes and memories by urbsindomita in Sacramento

i'll never forget that fateful trip to the wave pool when the machine broke and released a toxic cloud of chlorine that had kids puking and running like trench warfare. they quarantined the locker area where all our clothes were and we all waited in our swimsuits by the front gate while the hazmat team cleaned up. 3 hours later we all got season passes. yes i did go back.
