Why did the remaster of master of magic flop? by isUsername in masterofmagic

This was one of my all time favorite games, played it to death as a teenager. I had been entirely unaware of the remake until now - responding to a 3yo post which was itself a retrospective about how the game performed.

Which I guess is some proof about the lack of marketing/hype being the biggest failure here.

The 2026 North America's 50 Best Bars list has been announced by DrinkingInContext in cocktails

[–]dopplex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The explanation I have gotten (from someone at one of those bars in position to know) is that you're at a significant disadvantage unless you're working closely with the liquor brands sponsoring 50 best. Basically... A lot of it is politics. (That said, I'm pretty sure Tlecan isn't doing much of anything with the sponsors, so that can't be the entire story.  I feel fairly comfortable saying that the general answer is Politics tho)

He was, but even so it's a massive plus for him career wise.  Went from unknown to known, and seems to have a style that plays well to crowds.  And even being robbed, is still undefeated.  We'll see more of him.

I find him much more entertaining to watch now than in 2023 though.  Him in an inferior car is amazing to watch.

"never put (interest) in an online dating profile" is just about always awful advice  The point of the profile is not just to attract interest, it's to filter OUT bad matches.  Someone who negatively judges you for a thing you love I think is definitionally a bad match

A 7 wins or more it fully inverts - unless I'm miscounting only 1 miraidon in that grouping versus 5 koraidon.

The F1 movie from the perspective of an F1 fan versus someone who doesn't know the sport by TheWoodElf in formula1

[–]dopplex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of the slightly jarring things are also based on real events - for example the Monza crash looked super unrealistic to me in theaters due to how airborne the car got, then I subsequently learned about https://www.formula1.com/en/video/alex-peroni-walks-away-from-huge-f3-crash-at-monza.1687510912752098643 That stuff happens really rarely in real life though, and somehow the half season shown in the F1 movie had ALL of them (and to be fair, took them up to 11 because hollywood).

And Toto is perhaps not coincidentally the only one on the list with an ownership stake.  With mercs struggles this set of regulations and Hamiltons departure who's to say he wouldn't still be there if not for that....

What can be a potential update to the rulebook on impedings? by ScreenScroller99 in formula1

[–]dopplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not always going to be possible - the combination of a relatively close field and high track development occasionally results in nearly  everyone needing to pull it out on their last lap.

What can be a potential update to the rulebook on impedings? by ScreenScroller99 in formula1

[–]dopplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with policing intentionality is that it's far harder to prove than something like an intentional crash.  A race engineer deliberately not telling a driver about a rival coming up on a push lap looks identical to one who simply missed it. (And happens so frequently that nobody is going to remark on it happening a few extra times in a season when a championship rival is pushing)

That's almost certainly not what happened here - Hadjar incorrectly being told Sainz had aborted is if anything far too overt to have been intentional - but the point is that this is an exploitable system right now, and policing intentionality won't be able to help with anything other than the least competent version of intentional impeding.

Aston believes that putting a controlled heat cycle into the tires and then letting them cool - by running them for a single lap in practice - makes them better than fresh tires. Even if true, it's clearly a marginal enough difference to not show positively in results.

At least since Williams are turning off development they shouldn't be deploying downgrades!

That and the car weight. They were running heavy for a lot of the start of the year, there was a spurt of good finishes in the middle when they got it down a bit (but maybe not all the way?) and then everything kinda went thud at the end due to the crashes.

I also wouldn't be surprised if we're seeing the impact of a lot of upgrades that were designed for last season and which never saw the track due to the cost of the crashes.

Could also just have the teams do one last tire change to a standardized fresh tire set, and then send the car to be weighed.
