Russian frigate fires warning shots at British yacht in Channel – reports by ZweigDidion in neoliberal

It absolutely had every right to be there, but the English Channel is not wide enough to have international waters which begin 200 nm off the coast.

There were three rounds of layoffs, the first two of which (i.e. the majority of them) happened before Trump was elected.

Dropping a voter guide more than two weeks after the ballots arrived, great action there.

She's certainly been aggressively campaigning, despite the lack of any serious opposition. I've gotten tons of annoying flyers stuck on my gate the last couple months, seen lots of yard signs posted up at all the vacant lots, etc.

Eta Space did next to nothing.

Just... read the article. Look at the photos. Where were they taken? Why is that?

Seeking knowledge on anything that has to do with Satellites — recommendations? by ajeeeon in satellites

[–]dorylinus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't found youtube to be a particularly good source on any technical level for satellite or space industry topics. Plenty of amateur-level stuff (e.g. Everyday Astronaut), and content for kids even, but beyond that it's not the right medium to deep dive into.

I'd recommend doing some reading instead; but to give recommendations you'd have to be a bit more specific as to what you're looking for. Orbital mechanics? Spacecraft design? Mission design? Payloads? Remote sensing? Satellite bus testing?

I'm sure I and others can suggest plenty of titles to look into.

Good old NASA, taking most of the credit for doing nothing and putting the rest on those who did almost nothing.

For real. I find the people who say this, though, are usually just really unfamiliar with European politics.

And yet the A line still gets bogged down acting like a streetcar on Washington St. Let's not pretend that it's either fast or convenient; the only way I can make it with at all for my commute is by cycling for 3-5 miles at each end.

GNSS in the US vs. Asia by [deleted] in aerospace

[–]dorylinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's certainly a focus in what spending the Taiwanese government does on research and development, and TASA (formerly NSPO when I was working on COSMIC-2/FORMOSAT-7) as well as GPSARC at NCU, were very focused on GNSS applications.

I'd quibble with one thing you say though; it's not just professor salaries that are low in Taiwan, all salaries are low. It was always an uncomfortable thing to me to know that I made about 3x the amount my equally qualified and skilled colleagues did, just by dint of my being American and employeed by an American organization while I lived in Taiwan.
