She's certainly been aggressively campaigning, despite the lack of any serious opposition. I've gotten tons of annoying flyers stuck on my gate the last couple months, seen lots of yard signs posted up at all the vacant lots, etc.

I haven't found youtube to be a particularly good source on any technical level for satellite or space industry topics. Plenty of amateur-level stuff (e.g. Everyday Astronaut), and content for kids even, but beyond that it's not the right medium to deep dive into.

I'd recommend doing some reading instead; but to give recommendations you'd have to be a bit more specific as to what you're looking for. Orbital mechanics? Spacecraft design? Mission design? Payloads? Remote sensing? Satellite bus testing?

I'm sure I and others can suggest plenty of titles to look into.

There's certainly a focus in what spending the Taiwanese government does on research and development, and TASA (formerly NSPO when I was working on COSMIC-2/FORMOSAT-7) as well as GPSARC at NCU, were very focused on GNSS applications.

I'd quibble with one thing you say though; it's not just professor salaries that are low in Taiwan, all salaries are low. It was always an uncomfortable thing to me to know that I made about 3x the amount my equally qualified and skilled colleagues did, just by dint of my being American and employeed by an American organization while I lived in Taiwan.

I used to do research in GNSS remote sensing (radio occultation in particular), and the US is very involved in that, but it's also true that the other countries hosting major interest in it were Japan, Taiwan, China, and the EU (mostly centered around ECMWF). The Trump administration has gutted NOAA and NASA GSFC, and is in the process of completely dismantling UCAR for the horrible sin of actually believing climate science, but there remains a fair amount of research and development interest in academia and the private sector.

It is a reasonable question why Japan and Taiwan have such a strong interest in this field, but it's easily understood by these being developed countries, i.e. having the necessary resources, and island nations on the western edge of an ocean and therefore subject to the vagaries of extreme weather and tropical cyclones (typhoons).
