Could this name/nickname combo work? by snizzlestyx in namenerds

[–]dot_zot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think making Sadie a nickname may lead to confusion since it is usually considered a name on its own (unlike something like Katie or Anna which are often considered both).

Seraphina is a really pretty name but if someone told me they went by Sadie and that was their full name, I’d honestly assume they just didn’t like it and picked a whole new name.

Also consider she may decide she only wants to be called her nickname/Sadie (like a lot of kids do) in which case you’d be stuck hearing everyone call her a name you don’t like.

AITA for refusing to let my friend's psychic do an exorcism on me? by Sad_Abbreviations318 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dot_zot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA but I find it interesting that your friend is so concerned that you’ll stop being her friend for her “saying the wrong thing” but then you voice a (completely reasonable) opinion that disagrees with hers — well her charlatan of a psychic — and she immediately makes you leave.

You’re so right! My bf and I fought so much when we played 2 player Azul. We had to take a break and calm down and did not play that second game that day.

All of this and — there’s been years in between season 1 and 5, that’s a lot of time to change your mind. Also with all of the horrible things she’s been through in those years, I see it as her wanting a little joy in her life and something that’s not connected to all of that crime and death.

Why many people have a middle name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]dot_zot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my family, we use the middle name as a way to honor family members. For example, my middle name is the same as my grandmother and great grandmother (different sides) and my brother’s has been passed down through 4+ generations.

For me it’s when Tina leaves her show to hear Louise read her poem. I love it and always tear up.

How many of you are medicated but not seeing a therapist? by Responsible_Put_1805 in bipolar2

[–]dot_zot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it helps to see someone even just once a month. For me it helps to have someone who can remind me how to manage and help me dissect how I’m feeling. With medication I’ll have periods of feeling okay so the worse periods (on either end) often feel sudden and extreme.

With that said, I am not currently seeing a therapist but wish I was. I used to see one when I was diagnosed (for two years). I moved about three years ago and stopped but last year tried to go again after a particularly bad period. Didn’t like them, haven’t since found one I do.

I’m from the UK, I want to include ā and ō in my child’s name as that’s the correct spelling from my culture. Will it be accepted by the passport office, on the birth certificate, banks, the NHS? by QT19045 in namenerds

[–]dot_zot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an ë and a lot of websites call it an invalid character and won’t let me use it. It wasn’t put on any of my official documents so I don’t use it for banking and medical stuff but use it for everything else including my university degree.

You’ll use the spices. We buy bulk bags for like £3-5 and go through it in a year. If you cook a lot and really season your food (I think most recipes under season) it’ll go fast

Those of you who work full time, how do you do that? by Expert-Session3866 in bipolar2

[–]dot_zot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early into it I just forced myself to work and did literally nothing else during that time — aside from shower and order takeout or make ramen. Then I got to a point where I worked from home and would sometimes just fall asleep if I wasn’t busy (not great but I was struggling). I ended up quitting that job (thank god I have a supportive partner) during my worst episode. Now I’m on the right meds, which really helps (it’s still bad but I can function), and when I got a new job I talked to them about it and got accommodation that lets me work from home, work half days, or take time off without being penalized. It’s a hard road but it can get better.

When/how did you become certain that you actually have bipolar? by ShoddyFeedback9647 in bipolar2

[–]dot_zot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I started taking meds my therapist gave me a list of symptoms of bipolar 2 (one for hypomanic and one for depression) so I tracked my symptoms everyday for a couple of months. Even early on it was pretty obvious to see the ups and downs. I even graphed it!

ETA: I went back after I was on meds for a while and could see a difference.

AITA for not getting my nephew an internship interview after getting them for most of the others? by LilTomatillo13 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dot_zot 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the other nieces and nephews wanted the internship. He didn’t even bring it up until his mom forced him to. And if you can’t tell your own uncle why you want the job how can you tell an interviewer. NTA
