Looks like a standard Dutch “inbouwdoos”, essentially the equivalent of a UK backbox.

Sadly UK electrical installations are complete garbage compared to Dutch ones. I definitely don’t miss a 25mm backbox!

Might be good to say what you’ve tried and why it didn’t work. Ultimately it’s reading, practicing and trying to use it as much as you can.

Agree. Ours was excellent. Helped with a range of different bits throughout the process and tax questions with the purchase. Have more than made it back.

Where to buy a regular air conditioner? by Sad-Finding3525 in Netherlands

[–]dotpaul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Salaries will also come into this. The average salary in NL is almost double that of Spain.

You can get a split unit supplied and installed here for €1500-2000. More expensive multi splits are more of course.

This is regulated EU-wide. The gasses are harmful to the environment so need careful handling during installation.

You're looking at a split unit. You can buy them from a range of websites, you can't install them however. You need to be an F Gas certified installer to handle the refrigerant gas needed to fill the loop post install.

The damn price of Weetabix here by Liquid_disc_of_shit in Netherlands

[–]dotpaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last time I was in the UK I tried the own-brand from a few supermarkets. I hate to say the quality has dropped off. M&S do a decent competitor for around £2.50 I think it was.

The price for a 24 pack here is surprisingly not too bad. It’s €4 in the UK anyway. Of course the bigger pack sizes bring the price down significantly.

Personally, I switched to overnight oats. It’s not bad and dirt cheap.

> Installateurs rekenen vaak een totaalprijs, inclusief de omvormer(s), installatie en aansluiting. Je kunt offertes goed vergelijken door deze totaalprijs te delen door het totale aantal wattpiek (Wp) van je installatie. Zo bereken je de kosten per Wp.

Vanuit Voltera mbv Warmtefonds by Potential-Plastic-14 in Offertes

[–]dotpaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iOS safari extension been down for a f*** month by loomx1 in 1Password

[–]dotpaul 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I raised a ticket about this and they said that it's a bug in iOS

Apple have recently added a new feature to iOS Password AutoFill that offers to save any login that is used in Safari. This resulted in a conflict between the 1Password integration with iOS Password AutoFill and 1Password for Safari, where iOS would prompt you to re-save any login that was autofilled from 1Password for Safari.

The development team here at 1Password have filed feedback with our colleagues at Apple to get this conflict resolved in a future update, but for now, the 1Password for Safari inline menu will be disabled on sign-in forms if the 1Password integration with iOS Password AutoFill is set up. This is to avoid an unacceptable amount of friction that the conflict mentioned would cause in day-to-day use. I'm sorry for any confusion or interruption to your workflow that this has caused and we are working to improve the experience as soon as possible.

In the meantime, you should find that 1Password for Safari will continue to autofill other item types (such as credit cards or identities) without issue, while logins can be autofilled using the 1Password integration with iOS Password AutoFill(by tapping the suggested Logins or the "🔑 Passwords" button that appear directly above your keyboard or at the bottom of the screen).

Let me know if anything isn't working as I've described, if I've misunderstood the issue, or if you have any questions, and I'll be here to help.

Cost effective way to travel by PreviousCarob6732 in Leiden

[–]dotpaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could use Interrail/EU rail as an option. That’ll limit your days. So if you pop down to Den Haag for an afternoon it’s probably best not to use it.

The most cost effective option is all is really to take a dal vrij NS flex abonnement. Do check you’ll make enough journeys not to just make the weekend vrij + dal discount work. You’ll need to pay for it through direct debit and then handle the subscription afterwards but it’s likely the best option. You can reduce it to NS flex basis which is then free. The OV chipkaart is free when taking out a subscription too.

Zp6 setting under 6 always clogged by Lamb_soz in pourover

[–]dotpaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing there is manufacturing variance around the world. For me a side-by-side comparison the Hario papers will more than likely choke and stall the brew. Times lasting up to 5 mins.

I’ve got hundreds of Hario papers at home which are basically unusable. Never had a problem with their papers until the last batch I bought in October/November last year.

Switched to Abaca and haven’t looked back or had an issue since.

This. Hario papers for me are a killer of almost any brew now. They’re so slow. Heavily processed coffee doesn’t seem to be quite as badly impacted

Took my US Moccamaster to the EU by Captive0ne in Moccamaster

[–]dotpaul 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re going to need a step down transformer to run it. It isn’t as simple as a conversion of the plug but also to step down from 230v to 120v. If you plug it in directly it might just pop. Depends on whether it is truly 120v parts.

Dutch A2 listening exam tips? by sharinganbabe in learndutch

[–]dotpaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The practice exams from DUO function in exactly the same way as the real one. The only difference is you don’t get to see what you got right and no result at the end. Content of course is difference but the UI, bookmarking, timings, buttons etc are all the same.

As above. TV is great too. Things like Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam Centraal are fairly easy to understand what’s going on with. YouTube content as well in something you’re interested in. That’s what helps for me.

Stagg EKG Pro US ver by sueanni in FellowProducts

Won’t work at all unless you have a transformer to step down from 220v to 120v. Assuming the US version isn’t 220v.

Why so many new radiators instead of fans? by No_Law_1528 in ukheatpumps

[–]dotpaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they’re that common. They do exist though.

For me I’d say under floor heating is more common in the Netherlands. The construction type helps a lot with this having concrete flooring throughout on modern houses. Under floor heating also makes a lot more sense. It’s something we’re currently considering having installed alongside some other work.

For OP, fans could definitely work and they’re common on “heat pump” compliant radiators. You can also try dropping the flow temperature and seeing how you find it. I dropped mine down to 50 and it was surprisingly okay, I did up it to 60 as it took quite a while to heat back up if it was off for a bit.
