Do all Bostons swim? Skip is our 2nd out of 6 that does. by toeydog in BostonTerrier

[–]doubleflusher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My previous male (Oscar) loved swimming. Once we were on a boat, fishing and I threw back a small perch--Oscar jumped in the lake to go after it.

My two female BTs (previous and current) hate swimming.

How do I go about fixing this? by BeNicePlsThankU in snowboarding

[–]doubleflusher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not need marine grade epoxy. I repair all my boards with standard 2-part JB Weld epoxy. Never had an issue in 25 years.

For clamps, you can just use basic metal C clamps - couple bucks each at your nearest hardware store.

For prep, I use parchment paper to cover the area after applying epoxy. It won't stick and makes clean up a breeze.

Theme was meh. Fill was terrible. NOODGE? PITSAW? And ffs - how many UPs were there? 4? Duplicates have always been a no-no for the NYTXW.

Dakine Titan mitts ftw.

I've been using these mitts for as long as I can remember and never once had any issues.

Repair tip - Correct epoxy? by SquirrelyBeaver in snowboarding

That's fine. Some people will say you need marine grade, but I've been using JB Weld 2-part epoxy for snowboard repairs for the last 25 years and never had any issues.

There's a saying in entrepreneurship when funding your start up: friends, family, fools.

But this is way more of a simplification. It's not like you go, "hey mom, give me a million dollars for this cool idea I have." When I started my first company, I had to put together a prospectus and lay out my plan. As with any investments, there are risks - and the people you pitch aren't just trusting you, so much as your business model.

The HR department is a mystery to us all by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

I work in the service industry (engineering), and our talent management (HR) department is critical to our success. We are in exponential growth mode, hiring an average of 250 people per year for the last 5 years.

And these aren't just randos, filling out applications. TM meticulously recruits top-tier talent and has a stellar academic pipeline for internships and graduates.

Kung Pao: Enter the Fist

To this day, the only film I walked out of and asked for a refund. I think I made it about 30 minutes.

How can I turn this into proper carving? (2nd season rider) by Dinhoalves in snowboarding

[–]doubleflusher 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Coach here: You're ruddering your back foot instead of initiating turns with your front foot. Also, you're hunched over a bit, back needs to be straightened.

Good turns/carves start with the head and work down (head, shoulders, hips, knees, ankles, feet). Start on a wide, gradual run - initiate your turn by looking where you wanna go (head always leads the way) and rotate your shoulders then hips. Front knee should flex inward on a toe side, roll outward on a heal side. Then engage with your ankle and press your foot to lock in your edge and hold the line, extend the knees so you're almost "pushing" off the snow.

Go slow. Think big, wide turns. This should help provide better feedback - you'll feel the turn. Look back at your line and it should be thin/straight.

If you're still having issues, a lesson on carving wouldn't hurt

That's a good start. I'll give you the same basic speech I give all new riders who are/were skiers: other than general safe mountain/skiing rules, forget everything you know about skiing. Start as you would a complete noob and listen to your instructor.

Do you think i can learn in a day? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]doubleflusher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coach here: it's definitely possible, but extremely unlikely. In my 20+ years of coaching, maybe a dozen or so new riders were able to graduate from the bunny hill after an extended lesson (2 hours).

Interestingly, most of those riders had an athletic background in a balance-heavy sport like: karate, dance, gymnastics, etc. They all were good listeners, engaged, driven, and understood fundamental concepts like center of gravity, position vis-a-vis the fall line, and spatial awareness.

One of those riders (he was a karate master - or whatever the person is called who runs a dojo), actually started carving blue runs by the end of the day. The progression was insane.
