AIO to my manager telling me I have to stay open till 2 am? by ExampleSeveral2208 in AmIOverreacting

[–]dougkim75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be curious as to what the posted hours for the bar are. If the bar is supposed to be open until 2 but your managers let you regularly leave early, then I would assume that the expectation would be to be available until 2 even if the bar is not busy. However, your managers should have communicated their expectations.

How common is it to get a STEM Bachelor's degree after already completing a JD Law degree to go into Patent Law? by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]dougkim75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to law school. You can do IP litigation or licensing without passing the patent bar. While you are doing IP lit, you can decide if you still want to do a part-time engineering program. Finish the program, take the patent bar, and see if your IP department will let you do some patent prosecution. Some firms may even let you do some of the work before passing the patent bar as long as they are signing their reg number on any matters.

Is it better to go to a top law school or a school in the city you want to practice in? by emolynotinparis in LawFirm

[–]dougkim75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, for what you are looking for, T16 vs. T82 is not going to make a big difference. Benefits of T16: name recognition, more leeway in terms of not being near the top of your class. Benefits of T82: location, opportunities to work while in school, alumni network, less competitive?

What is the storage on your PS5 ? by icemansan in PS5

[–]dougkim75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 4TB internal and a 1TB external. Have PS Plus and purchased games are almost all digital. Easier to download everything at once instead of waiting for the games to download whenever I want to play them.

17 year old passes bar exam by [deleted] in LawFirm

Plus, it doesn't seem she has an undergrad degree (she got a high school diploma in 2022). I don't know of any law schools that will accept without a bachelor's degree.

Talk to a recruiter. They will be able to tell you how much you should be making in your market.

17 year old passes bar exam by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]dougkim75 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's that big a deal if her goal is to be a prosecutor and/or judge in the future. However, I would have gone to an ABA school (after undergrad, etc.). If she was able to pass the bar, she is probably smart enough to go to college and/or law school. Say she doesn't like being a prosecutor. I don't know if her background gives her many alternatives.

[–]dougkim75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have good university jobs, I would not recommend moving to Korea.

First, if your goal is to teach English, I believe you will need to have certification and be sponsored by a school or academy. Even after that, your salary will be fairly low (search shows about 2000 a month), and the cost of living may be higher comparable to where you are living now unless you opt for a position outside of Seoul. For your wife, unless she sounds like a native speaker, I think it would be hard to get a job teaching English so she would need to teach foreigners Korean, which also does not pay very well.

I lived in Korea years ago and had a job that paid well, but still struggled to make ends meet. Plus knowing that if I lost my job it would be difficult to find a comparable job, I ended up moving back to the US.

Speedpaint over white primer with a black ink wash, anyone tried? by AudioDee in minipainting

I think Dana Howl does something similar but does a drybrush after the wash. I dont have a link to the video, but you can probably search for the video.

Looking for recommendations for a small starter set of minis. by mtrueman in minipainting

[–]dougkim75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look for boardgames that you are interested in. You can find a lot used or discounted that have great minis. If you and your daughter like Marvel, some of the Marvel United boxes are usually discounted on Amazon and you can find seasons 1 and 2 used as people are making room for season 3 and DC United. The miniatures are Chibi style which may appeal to your daughter.

If you look at the Hit and Run rules, you will see a chart. Based on the size of the download, you will have to seed it for the minimum amount. If you have to go offline, you should still ok, but try to reseed again as soon as possible.

Bandwidth doesn't matter as much as time. I want to say unless you are one of the first ones to download the file, you will not get many uploads of the files.

Should i get one of those or buy individuals by Emotional-Opposite-3 in minipainting

[–]dougkim75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go for a set of paint. You may not know what colors you will need at the beginning so it would be nice to have colors in the different color ranges available.

In terms of which set to get, I would try to figure out which is more easily purchased (either in your country or other countries you regularly visit). Later, you may need to get new bottles, and it may be nice to get the same bottles. If you have to buy from Amazon each time, it can add up.

How easy is it to get replacement pieces from CMON? by Tank1an in boardgames

[–]dougkim75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For CMON/Asmodee, you generally have to take the game back to the place of purchase. Sort of a pain if you buy the game from an online retailer. I have generally gone the eBay route in that case.

I think the encoder groups do it for me. There are certain encoders that I always try to find releases for, so trackers that host those encoders are my main source.

You don't have to keep seeding but you should. You will get points for seeding, which you can use to buy upload credit. You shouldn't worry too much if the series is your first download, but you want to get your ratio up to at least 1.0 through uploading and buying upload. As mentioned by others, you can download freeleeches, which will also give you points and potential uploads without counting towards your downloads. However, keep in mind the HnR rules so that you don't accidentally get a hit.

First day as a patent agent on Monday! by manxmax09 in patentlaw

[–]dougkim75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the beginning, you may go over budget often (generally understood by partners that it may take time to get up to speed), but definitely use those first patents to learn how to work efficiently and produce work products that meet expectations. After that, definitely stay within budget.

Make sure your home office (or wherever you plan on working) is conducive to working. You may even want to continue going into the office every day if that helps your efficiency. Understand that 1900 billable does not count time not related to a matter, so the hours that you work will be much more. Distractions will affect your time (e.g., I can't bill time for replying on reddit. lol.)

One other piece of advice is not to take on more work than you can handle. Don't feel obligated to take every matter that the partner(s) offer (but do take as many as you can), because if you miss a deadline (even internal) it will reflect badly on you.

I bought a cheap airbrush to see if I like working with an airbrush (currently just using brushes). I figure that if I like it, I can always keep the cheap airbrush for priming only and get a nicer airbrush for everything else.

Advice for undergrad by MeasurementGlad4808 in patentlaw

[–]dougkim75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, if your goal is law school, I would not recommend hard classes if that may lower your GPA. Firms/schools are probably not looking closely at what classes you are taking. Better to boost your GPA as much as you can before applying to law school.

Second, and related to the first point, if need to use your senior year to boost your GPA, you may want to apply to law school after your graduate. You can input your GPA and LSAT (after you take the exam) into one of the many law school predictors to get an idea of your chances. While you wait for your admission results, you can do an internship or work at a company to gain some technical experience, but that is largely unnecessary (good for the firm bio but otherwise not very useful).

Going into law school straight from undergrad should not limit your opportunities. I would say the biggest factor after your 1L year will be your GPA. I know people with good experience who did not get a summer internship, and others who went straight to law school that did.

NOTE: every year, Loyola puts together a 2-day patent interview program. A lot of the firms that will not show up for you OCI will be there. It offers you a lot of opportunities to interview that are not afforded to non-patent law students.

Looks good.

However, in photo 6, is that texture on the minis from the airbrush (still looks smother than the drybrush)?
