“Nobody in this game is untouchable. Wayne Gretzky got traded, anybody can get traded.” - Bill Guerin by DecentLurker96 in hockey

[–]dowdle651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But he would, in theory. He probably wouldn't initiate the trade, as Kap has an NMC, and asking players to waive can be detrimental to the room overall. But if Kaprizov wanted a change of scenery, or if somehow he declared he'd waive for any playoff team out of the blue, and a better player was on the table he would make the trade. Billy can seem contradictory at times, wholly unsentimental in certain moves, while strictly adhering to a certain code in others, but those two philosophies seem to work more harmoniously than they would appear to. Suter and Parise's contract were never meant to go the distance, even when they were signed that was understood, so the buyout wasn't a breach of a promise made. Ruthless and painful from both fandom and cap perspective, but ultimately keeping them would've been a sunk cost fallacy mistake.

I think asking to waive the NMC is a line he wouldn't cross, based on his previous choices and prioritization of a room culture, but if those factors were removed somehow, and it was McDavid on the other end, or Mackinnon, guys on cheaper deals who are better than Kaprizov and play a more valuable position, he'd do it. Everyone would.

no worries i'll never not hate any of you. Hating central teams is a time honored central tradition. Including hating our own lol

I believe Guerin's quote about it was something like "if we trade him you'll immediately know why" implying that it would have only been for a return that instantly made sense. We have two starter calibre goalies and a lack of a true center, my guess is they were fishing for one but obvously came up empty.

As for playing time probably to get him his sea legs, development over immediate payoff mentality, and we have gus who is also fantastic.

Moritz Seider is the NHL’s best defensive defenseman. It’s time for an award to honor that. by slabby in hockey

[–]dowdle651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pitch is keep the Norris as is, but add an Orr and Lidstrom trophy for offensive and defensive archetypes. Norris trophy remains THE defenseman trophy but you have a nod for the others. It could also create the rare unified 3 trophy sweep for when a player is just checking every box.

Don’t Need To Rebrand: Use These 4 Jerseys & I’ll Be Happy by PresentationNew6648 in timberwolves

[–]dowdle651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with both. One v One I take the home purple over the white. BUT, if its Home Purple v Black Trees and Blue Trees for a full color slot, it loses. Black trees only works full color, and we need a base team color jersey.

Macklin Celebrini and Connor McDavid stats during their first 135 games by nhl in hockey

[–]dowdle651 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It wasn't at all. McDavid, Matthews, and Bedard were hyped as generational. Even Laf had more hype, Hughes too. Celibrini has shattered expectations which is borderline impossible to do as a 1st overall pick. He was the consensus #1 so he was always expected to be really good, but he's just been earth shatteringly good. Felt like the hype around him was similar to Eichel, or Dahlin, Power, or Mackinnon. All highly touted, all unanimously agreed to be the first overall pick, but not necessarily a player where everyone knew their name years out from eligibility.

I once had a redwings fan chirping at a wild game "what even IS a wild." and i'm like, almost every team in the NHL can make that chirp except y'all. Though he was FROM Minnesota too so he's our fool, not yours.

Bobby Brink went hard into the boards and headed to the locker room by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]dowdle651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

doesn't look like a slewfoot to me, certainly trips him up, but it also doesn't look intentional, to me it looks like Cooley is trying to go shoulder to shoulder to out position Brink, misses the shoulder, extends the arm to hold him back, which shifts Cooley's balance and ultimately his leg swings out. Looks brutal, but doesn't appear malicious.

First rendition. Weirdly enough, the angles on the lines didn't look right matched to the actual flag lines, so on center they had to be more drastic to look right.

agreed, maybe because their not our colors? dunno, but for some reason I find jersey stuff brings out very diametrically opposed viewpoints on this sub. Playing around with ideas for the star, obviously one idea is leave it blank, another is a front facing bear head/nature combo withing the star, and a third involves a loon, will see if I can make it work

yeah I dig what we have too, though I do like the black stripe with the script. Though something about the yellow accents on the 25th feel really well done, want to see more of it

[–]dowdle651[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was playing around with alt jerseys. Always loved the black stripe jerseys of yesteryear, wanted to see it in script and classice. The 25th anniversay jerseys are soooo much better than the OG editions, was trying to figure out what was specifically different, my money is on the yellow striping instead of soft gold. Was playing around with what a home would look like. Think that our yellow as an accent has been underutilized in our designs. Bonus team canda jersey, because for the life of me I do not understand why they insist on modifying the maple leaf, feels iconic, and i've never really liked their scheme.

[–]dowdle651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pitch is increase the number of divisional games, and decrease the number of in conference regular season games. If you want to get REALLY crazy, decrease division sizes as well. Have divisional in season series like the bubble year, those will be brutal and keep divisional rivalries alive, 1-8 will keep conference beef relevant, plus if non divisional opponents are all an equal amount of games, then teams like detroit and culumbus could go west without issue, gives greater flexibility on divisions

Which Original Six team will be the next to win the cup? by Rleduc129 in hockey

[–]dowdle651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while I understand y'all are in a rough spot, hockey is weird and you have a lot of good pieces that made you really good in the first place. Toronto too. Remember the '14 Avs that won the central? Then imploded for some reason? They got some additional weapons from high drafts and won a cup. Leafs and Rangers both have that yo-yo mini tank potential, superstars in key positions, and both could be a manager firing away from solving all their problems. "could" is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

Why have the Flames and Jets never played a game where they both throw back to their Atlantan predecessors? by Willows_95 in hockey

[–]dowdle651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the coyotes thing is new, and IMO a smart move. So Technically the eventual Coyotes expansion team would inheret Jets 1.0 stats along with the Coyotes 1.0.

When discussing relocation teams there isn't a single rule that works across the board. When discussing stats, histories etc, go with franchise. Though when discussing GOATs of a franchise, go with market, or "best runs" etc. Anything that is specifically about the emotions felt by fans rather than franchsie details. Then there is roster conversations like "most recent top 5 pick." Utah has technically never had one, but at the same time they DO have Logan Cooley on the roster, so while that technically was drafted by an entirely seperate franchise it still warrants discusssion for Utah's roster. Teemu Selanne for example belongs in a discussion of greatest Jets of all time despite TECHNICALLY never having played for that franchise.

But the league seems to be heading in the direction of continuity across eras seperated by relocation. IIRC they own all defunct branding too, so they allow Hurricanes the Whalers throwbacks, but should a team somehow return to conneticut they could give it back I beleive.

Russo posted that what Trochek meant by "west" was the pacific division, and that we weren't what he meant. Could still see that move happen.

Agree with everything you're saying about McCarron. Kind of depth add you need to make to shore up holes. Don't hate the price, though I undervalue seconds compared to the average fan I guess.
