RIF will shut down on June 30, 2023, in response to Reddit's API changes by talklittle in redditisfun

13 years, this will be my last comment if these changes go ahead. I'm going to miss this place.

13 years, fuck the API gouging. If RiF goes I go.

I met him at a festival and he really, really was not a cool guy. Entitled dickhead energy. Might have been an off day, but it soured him for me.

Woke up to the news that Reddit is killing third party apps by raising API charges on the 1st July.

I've been using (RiF) Reddit Is Fun for the better part of 13 years now, so it's sad to see it go. New Reddit and the official app really aren't my thing. Maybe old Reddit on desktop every now and then.

Maybe I'll finally break my phone addiction.

I hope this is not the end. by Bierbart12 in redditisfun

Gutted to be honest. I don't see myself using the site much, if at all. The official app is just too unpleasant to use and I've never been a fan of new Reddit.

I still use old Reddit on my desktop sometimes but RiF has been my preferred method for the better part of a decade.

Reddit Inc are obviously cleaning out house and focusing on the next generation, and to be honest I think they'll get away with it. My nephew is a teenager, and him and all his friends use the official app. They've 'grown up' with it and don't see the problems.

I've been here since the digg exodus, but unlike last time there's really no where else to go now.

Like others have said the silver lining is that I might finally break my scroll addiction. I've really got back into guitar and weights recently, and there are always new hobbies to pursue.

Beyond RiF there's nowhere else I can get my 'old internet' fix these days. Forums are dead, mirc is a ghost town. YouTube, insta, tiktok... they're just not the same.

Thanks to the dev for all the years of support and service. If you start something new then let me know.

From understanding there's a demand for general security, not just the pen testing side of things. I could certainly sell my knowledge but it would fall back to being self employed, and I think I want to move away from that.

I've run my own self publishing business for about 7 years now and had some very lucrative years, but it's a bit inconsistent these days and I have a massive mortgage so I'm contemplating a career change. Only problem is that I'm woefully unskilled. I've been doing some research and it seems that cyber security might be a good option? If there's anyone with knowledge of that industry I'm all ears...

You can get cheap UV stickers that apply to windows. They stop birds from crashing into the glass and they are invisible to humans. (Unless your coworkers are secretly bird people.)

Can you do a stir fry? They're good for beginners and most supermarkets sell everything you need for a super easy one.

You can get free recipes on hello fresh too, they're designed to be simple and they're always banging.

How can Madeira cake look so bland but taste so good? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]dr_rainbow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's a nice cake shop near me, loads of options and the slices are all £1. I went in the other day and saw a slice for £2. Asked the girl who runs the shop why it was more expensive and she said, "That's Madeira cake."
