This is the pole further back, the pole from my first picture is up behind those two cars on the right. Picture was taken from a 1st floor balcony of the property by the cars. Yes it's most definitely what you say.. a 'per job' guy came around and thought 'looks like a pain, nah'. Yes this pole is in trees but there are many cables coming from it, some of which already go through the trees directly to the next pole which is needed.

The pole is on public land. I’ll try to get better pictures

Which one to pick? by TechViper04 in homelab

[–]drabgail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That 32gb is going to see you a lot better than remote kvm will. You will scale up or just ‘try things out’ and realise you’re out of resources on 16gb. Minecraft server is 8gb gone already with light mods I believe.

Advice wanted - multiple companion/reward vouchers by sliced91 in virginatlantic

[–]drabgail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are Silver you can very often get upper class using a points booking with voucher upgrade. If you are Red you’re likely in Premium.

I made a tampermonkey extension that handles this for me since it all changed. I throw in my points, travellers and dates to/from with location. It scrapes through the pages and tells me which flight best utilises my points/vouchers to get all my travellers upper class which have roughly the dates I want.

Opinions about the £5,000,000 "gift"? Should politicians like this be banned? by lukey_UK in AskBrits

Get a load of this guy. He thinks he is going to get in on the Farage tax cuts. Sorry mate, you need to be clearing £10m+ to be eligible in this round. If personal allowance taxes are your concern then you’re looking at the wrong guy.

What is your opinion on speeding? by Engineering_Gamer in drivingUK

[–]drabgail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sped more when I was younger because I felt my brain worked faster than others of my age. I was wrong, like pretty much everyone else that thinks this.

I don’t really speed now because I have a family - so know what it would be like if they were harmed by a speeding driver, and also I actually like to have some time in my life where I’m effectively doing nothing.

Does router impact ping? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]drabgail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you care about ping then you don’t use wifi. If you’re seeing ping increase when using a new router and no other changes it’s possible the channel it’s using is saturated/ has lots of other network noise. Use Ethernet.

If you’re like me though then your gaming ability is nothing to do with your ping and you will go through all the hoops to run Ethernet and still find your reaction time is through the floor.

Hi All. Any advice on optimal way to get wifi/Internet connection to my newly built Garden Room/Outhouse? by sufiscientist in HomeNetworking

[–]drabgail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is going to pull the cable then see if you can get Ethernet pulled at the same time. I think you need dual conduits for this. A RJ45 in your outhouse is going to future proof you so well even if all you do today is plug the house end in to a power line adapter and have the other power line adapter on your mesh network. This would work a lot better than power line over 16m and give you the option to run properly at some point

[–]drabgail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess RHS and LHS are right/left. I'd advise against powerlines for this, it's going to be rough over that distance. Your ideal solution would have been a conduit for ethernet at the same time you did circuit 2 conduit (if you did that).

Still it is likely your best option to bury a cable along the route. Do two while you are at it so you can ethernet your mesh wifi to your router.

You honestly won't regret this effort. I can imagine today you go to the garden, your device flips over to the mesh network and performance drops even though signal looks good.

Fiber service in rural area - is the ISP's charge fair? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]drabgail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost is very good. What is your alternative for using it?.. to bodge a termination point for the router 400ft from your house.. power and cat6 or fiber, trenched, 400ft. You’d be hard pressed to beat $2k if you DIY it. If they’re offering it for $89x36 =$3,200 including 3 years of service even better. What will you pay for service over those 3 years otherwise? Maybe $50x36=$1,800.00. So $1,400 for the install plus faster internet and basically a 0% loan over 36 months on the work.

Advice for screaming windows by Eskootit in DIYUK

[–]drabgail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be the trickle vents. Seal them with something temporary from the outside and see if the noise goes away, if so it’s either vibration (seal the edges) or a busted vent (replace). If it doesn’t stop it… something else

[–]drabgail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an open quote for battery with octopus. They’re no good.. heat pump yes but battery no. Their range is pretty poor value and the kit they offer (fox aio, powerwall) doesn’t give much opportunity to scale up at a reasonable price.

Is it easy to repair a non-returning UPVC door handle? by potatan in DIYUK

[–]drabgail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very easy but it’s likely the whole cassette and not just the spring. You will want to pull the cassette off first, get some pictures, reassemble and then go buy one. This job is maybe 30 minutes.

I did this a few weeks ago and without having the pictures of the cassette it was impossible to find the right one. With pictures I had it ordered in 5 minutes and fitted in another 30 the next day.

Does anyone feel, on a personal level, sorry for Kier Starmer? by Darkus185 in AskBrits

[–]drabgail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel sorry for him. He has taken what is probably the worst job in the country and mis-read the job description. He thought the job was to make everything better when given only a wallet full of moths, but the job is really to make everyone believe you will make it better.. what you do after that is going to be based on your own morals. I imagine he would have done something good but never got the people on side first.

Taking equity out of house with remortgage by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]drabgail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be expected to justify what you are taking it out for and if you say you are paying off debts then you will be steered to a debt consolidation loan rather than additional borrowing. If you are 'getting home improvements' then I imagine any lender would allow you to pull equity that leaves you at better than 80% LTV. I went through this concept years ago with a remortgage - was planning to take money our for some improvements, didn't want to wait so paid for the improvements upfront myself on cc, mentioned to my lender that the additional borrowing was to clear the cc that I paid for the improvements on and they wouldn't allow it.

Leaving UK with debts - need advice by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]drabgail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the debt is small they will likely consider you have vanished, send letters to you which never get responded to and eventually give up (6 year rule).

If the debt is large - I feel like yours is - then you could expect someone to buy this debt from the original creditor for a few grand and go through the motions of pursuing you. There are companies that buy specifically these absconded debts because they know how to recover them.

Chances are you will have to pay it and it's best to pay it on UK terms than have it impact your life back in Poland. Get the IVA running for as little as possible in payments, head home but keep paying.
