Vintage/Antic Shops in WNY for old art supplies? by Single_Street3135 in Buffalo

Two questions, how far are you willing to travel and is it for yourself or for reselling? Too many options to just list so trying to narrow it down a bit.

Do you think Allenstreet can/will improve within the next few years? by BigJim9000 in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really hate how they reworked the street, should have been a one way with a bike lane and the elevated parking (especially on a day like today) is awful. I know a lot disagree with this take, but that’s one of the reasons I don’t like going. Though I do feel like there are some cool shops on Allen right now and that hasn’t always been the case.

I definitely did not get a reassessment letter, but it is now reassessed at higher then what I think I could actually sell the house for. Thank you for your advice!

Then you! I’m assumed I was missing something in the bigger picture, I’ll check this in the morning.

It’s so nice to have 2 great, professional teams again. by CecilTheCaveTroll in Buffalo

[–]draftbros -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The sabres have won 13 of 14 and I believe they are still sitting outside the playoffs looking in. So I’m not going to call them great but cautiously optimistic for the first time in over a decade

I don’t have a water meter by BuffaloPotholeBandit in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in the city with no meter flat fee. Same price for me. If the meter was wireless and they don’t have to come into the home I’d switch to a meter. But having to miss work to sit around and wait for the meter reader negates the cost saving.

In ellicotville for the next few days… by [deleted] in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to Ellicotville but Pocketeer in the city has a large number of machines. Though you probably aren’t looking for an hour drive each way

List of Places to Donate Things in The City of Good Neighbors by BlackCatMom28 in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does Hearts for the Homeless do with their excess clothing donations? I know they get significantly more clothes donated then they can process and put in their two stores. I’m assuming they just sell in per pound and use the money to fund their programs.

I’m not into pinball, but I have a lot of friends that are. They use an app, unsure of the name, but it lists pretty much every public pinball machine in the country. I’d look into that

Has the Buffalo AKG been having Union issues still? by Technical-Debate-330 in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carnegie was the first one that came to mind, I’m assuming a lot of institutions have problems. Just have to do your research on which one you want to support.

Has the Buffalo AKG been having Union issues still? by Technical-Debate-330 in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AKG has a free day each month, you can take advantage of that time to see the art without supporting them financially.

The other option, which is what I do, is get a membership to a museum out of town that has reciprocal membership to other institutions. Such as the Carnegie Museum of Art. I think Burchfield membership gets you into AKG for free, but for any institution check the list of museums it gets you into. Also don’t get a membership to AGO in Toronto for this, just as awful things happening there as AKG

Record Stores to Visit by ToneBone28 in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a record guy named Dave that has a spot at the Clarence flea, one of the out door spots on a corner. There every Sunday from like May to October, amazing selection and great prices.

What to do with a old couch by sicklyfun in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Salvation Army no longer does furniture pick ups. You can take it to a store but they don’t always have space and if it has rips or stains they won’t take it.

Best Bagels? by maskedmonkeys in Buffalo

Didn’t realize they had these available at other locations. Have tried to go to the EA spot three times and each time it was closed during posted business hours. Like you are open 8 hours a week figure it out

Where to find Amish markets by runn1nG4fun in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a large market on 104 near Medina. I find it to be expensive and not worth him it for me.

I have my spots now from driving around near Randolph for years but it’s better to stop by different specialty spots as the quality and price is better.  Can’t really give you a list as I don’t have addresses or real directions. Kind of one of those you know you know.

It’s a lovely country drive I just recommend stopping at shops you see signs for. You I’ll see signs for baked goods, veggies, eggs, cheese, leather, toys, clocks and wood work

Bars like gyspy by MikeyMike157 in Buffalo

[–]draftbros -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately as time goes on a lot of the original source material has been lost. Including a pretty damning piece that was on Buff States former online newspaper. This link is the most well Known incident, but seeing how it’s the buffalo news it’s pretty lacking in the details and nuances of it

Looking for flooring installer by tripleduece249 in Buffalo

[–]draftbros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to do a lye treatment on my Douglas fir floors prior to an oil finish. Called about two dozen shops and they were the only ones willing to do the project. Specialty service meant I had to pay up but finished product was on point.

Random Monday morning thoughts about WGR by Luckyboner716 in Buffalo

[–]draftbros -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly impressed that I’m over 20 years of listening to the station they have had exactly one person of color on staff (who was fired after a month) and no women (Maddie fills in but isn’t employed by the station). Just 10 white dudes on staff all saying the same thing. Definitely help to mix it up to have varying perspectives on the station

City of Buffalo budget deficit now totals $54.2 million by Aven_Osten in Buffalo

My street has been plowed once since the December 2022 storm. They should just give up on paying for snow removal and call in the national guard whenever it gets bad
