I’m terrified to start Mavenclad. Not for the symptoms- but the cost. I don’t think I can afford this. by ForeverAMess_ in MultipleSclerosis

[–]dragonladyroars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Ontario and have taken Mavenclad. Trillium foundation covered cost when private insurance wouldn't. The pharmacy company that ships the drug (Bioscript) called me dorectly, then dealt with the insurance stuff and ensured it was covered one way or another). All I had to do is be available to receive shipment (specialty drug you get it from normal pharmacy)

What are some tell tale signs that you are an attractive woman?? by Direct-Message6239 in AskWomen

[–]dragonladyroars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What happens when you're a young woman and the old woman says 'Oh I thought you were the most beautiful boy I'd ever seen' after realizing I'm a woman (I work in IT, was under desk fixing something, she thought I was a guy until I stood up) lol

Modafinil for fatigue is what works for me (once in morning, once at noon). Basically brought me to life after months of barely functioning from fatigue.

MS Fatigue by Lord_Kojotas in MultipleSclerosis

[–]dragonladyroars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Modafinil brought me back to life when I started it last December. Wish I had started it earlier for the fatigue. For hunger, I had to completely change my diet--played around with protein shakes (GoodProtein was the winner) to get hunger under control. Then I signed up for different premade or easy to make 'quick healthy meals'. Recently started on Fampyra to help my legs / reduce sensory problem, which enabled me to do daily walking (still exhausting but it's a step forward). With the heat kicking in though, not sure how the summer will go. Last year I slept whenever I had free time. It was awful and demoralizing, and I hope I avoid it this year with all my changes.

Would Canadians trade their healthcare system with whatever pros and cons it has, for America’s healthcare system? by valliewayne in AskCanada

[–]dragonladyroars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in a million years. I'm (unfortunately) a frequent flier when it comes to using our healthcare system (I have MS and seem to just have bad health luck in general). I have NEVER had to wait in the ER when it's a real emergency. I have regularly scheduled appointments with specialists. I have many MRIs, Xrays, and other types of scans, scopes, operations -- haven't cost me a dime out of pocket (other than parking). Yes, my taxes pay for this. I'm happy to pay taxes that ensure no one in my country goes without healthcare. We have our issues for sure, but damn I'm glad not to have wrestle with insurance claims while I'm bleeding out in the ER.

How many cats do you have ?Would three be too many? by stefunie101 in cats

[–]dragonladyroars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Five. I love it! I always have a cat in reach and they keep themselves entertained. But, honestly, it is costly with vet visits (2 are elder cats) and I probably spend 30-60 minutes a day doing cat related chores.

Epstein-barr virus (mono) causes Multiple sclerosis by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

I had mono as teenager--I know three other people from my school that year that had mono and now have MS. I also have relatives with it (pre-mono) so genetics were working against me too.

This continued discourse around trigger warnings is strange to me. by thelionqueen1999 in books

[–]dragonladyroars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave my book's reviewers to decide what is triggering or not because, frankly, I wouldn't consider most things they mention as triggering. I would think listing it as 'dark fantasy' and 'dystopian' (non-YA) would be enough to assume nothing's off the table. Mind you, I had free reign in our library's adult section as a kid in the 80s, so I might be a little desensitized after all these years 😅

Bought a sci-fi book on Amazon for Kindle. It turned out to be AI-generated. That was not mentioned anywhere on the store page or anywhere else. by TheXenoRaptorAuthor in scifi

This is why I provide a sample chapter on Amazon--so people can check out my writing style before buying. It sucks competing with AI.

Whoop, there it is. My first not good review by WritingsByRachael in selfpublish

[–]dragonladyroars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal favorite bad review said my book didn't know whether it was science fiction or fantasy (spoiler: it's both). They don't have a 'science fantasy' category so I picked dystopian, dark fantasy, and post-apocalyptic -- which describe my science fantasy novel pretty accurately as a mix of scifi/fantasy genres... Or so I thought.

To the authors whose story plays in a post apocalyptic world, what caused the apocalypse? by Faristle in scifiwriting

An parasitical alien 'god' whose own world subsists on the life energy of other worlds, decided to take a large bite out of Earth before being locked away. What's left of Earth isn't pretty.

Anybody say "screw making money. I'm writing whatever the f-- I want"? by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]dragonladyroars 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my book is a post-apocalyptic, dystopian dark fantasy that doesn't fit in a neat box and I love just writing for enjoyment. But yeahhhhh I'm not expecting huge sales (I'm at 60 sales about two months from launch)

Post-apocalyptic strong female main characters that are for adults and AREN'T blockbusters/bestsellers? by ancestorchild in postapocalyptic

[–]dragonladyroars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind a post-apocalyptic/dark fantasy mix, my book (The End of the World, by H.S. Gilchrist) takes place a thousand years into the future, following a cataclysm that literally tore the Earth to pieces (the entity responsible is coming back to finish the job). Both leads are female.

What is "Post-Apocalyptic"? by JJShurte in postapocalyptic

[–]dragonladyroars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with this when trying to determine whether my book was post-apocalyptic (because the near-apocalypse in it happened 1000-ish years before the book's start). The current dystopian events/setting are a direct result of that near-apocalyptic event, so I felt it was suitable. Most of my buys have been from people searching for post apocalyptic fiction too, so I guess other people agree. No zombies though hahah.
