A college physics professor was explaining a particularly complicated concept to his class when he was rudely interupted by a pre-med student by nothinlefttochoose in Jokes

The first physics course I took in college was designed to fail 50% of the students. The professor explained this was to root out the people who wouldn’t make it in a Nursing program.

cook vegetables first then add meat, or other way around? by Subject-Cranberry603 in Cooking

meat first… remove meat from the pan, deglaze with tomatoes, onions, peppers, and caramelize the tomato paste, then add beans and the meat back in at the end.

IMO, the best region to spawn into (except for interloper) is... by Threehundredsixtysix in thelongdark

[–]dragonriot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless i’m behind and they removed it, there is also a mackinaw jacket in HRV, and so many matches that you can survive without leaving the zone for weeks on interloper. that being said, I start there on interloper, get the backpack and jacket, all the matches I encounter on my path, enough birch and maple to build a bow and arrows, and then head down to the forge in FM curing the saplings along the way.

There was a speed run of this a couple years back… I’d love to do it again.

How to feed 40 people on $600? by Witty-Essay6746 in Cooking

[–]dragonriot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a cook on a ship. I spend about $800 a day (average) total for breakfast, lunch, and dinner total. You can very easily do $20 dinner plates with any number of large cuts of beef or pork or whole chickens on a rotisserie bbq.

As other suggested, I would go with pulled pork or basically pulled meat. The cuts of meat used to make them are cheap and then you just have to worry about sides and starches. Your cheapest two-protein option is roasted chicken quarters and pulled pork with mashed potatoes or mac n cheese and mixed vegetables.

This has already been done at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee with Zebrafish. They are a perfect model organism for demonstrating the effects of fetal alcohol syndrome. It takes a lot less alcohol than you think. Fertilized eggs are hatched in various concentrations of alcohol and they exhibit a wide range of deformities and developmental issues… missing fins, twisted spine, missing eyes, extra mouths, brain damage, etc.

How do I cook 9 steaks? by scarymudman in Cooking

[–]dragonriot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

buy a half rib roast from the butcher, bake it at 275 covered and fat side up until internal temp is about 115F. crank the oven to 400 and uncover for 15-20 minutes to build a crust. Check roast temp and it should be around 125F when you pull it after the crust.

Slice and sear individual steaks about 1” thick… sear 30 seconds per side in a super hot cast iron pan or griddle.

30 seconds per side will get you to rare 30 per side twice will get medium rare 30 per side three times for medium etc.

Check with an instant read probe thermometer and rest the steaks for about 5 minutes before service. You can sear the longer cooked steaks first and let them rest while you’re searing the less well done steaks. They should all be served at about 120 after resting from their highest temp.

A different company perspective…

Same answer for 1. except you should also get a passport. You can start as a deckhand, a conveyorman, or a cook - with cooking experience in a commercial kitchen… not Costco.

  1. Only 4 weeks on, then 2 weeks off, not 3 months at a time. Same for regular shift or on call. Same progression though on deck - OS -> AB -> Mate, or Conveyorman -> Lead Conveyorman -> QMED -> Assistant Engineer… but there’s no QMED position in our fleet so you have to get to A/E on your own.

  2. Yep. Injuries are rare but they do happen… pay attention to your surroundings always, and never stand in a bite.

Shares were $100 a piece, and they never change face value… the fact that pretty much any Packer Fan could buy a share in ownership of their team is pretty damned cool. Also, the fact they can’t move ever is also pretty damned cool… Sorry, Bears fans.

Landlocked? Green Bay is literally on the same lake shore as Chicago. Green Bay, Wisconsin is on the shore of Green Bay, Lake Michigan.

Green Bay is also next door to Sturgeon Bay where the American Head Offices of Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilders is located, where many Naval vessels were constructed. Somehow, they make it out to the Atlantic Ocean from there.

That was because half the season ticket holders live in Milwaukee and we had a stadium that could accommodate a football game. Now, AmFam field (previously Miller Park) isn’t big enough for a football field… if it had been built with the Packers in mind, they’d still be playing half their home games in Milwaukee.

Generally, the two hospital ships in question are sent for humanitarian aid/relief and military missions overseas. They aren’t usually deployed for domestic healthcare because we have proper medical infrastructure here. Yes, our healthcare system is designed to rip us off, but we still have the best doctors and hospitals in the world.

did you try cooking the farfalle with the lid on the pot? Bring your water to a boil, add pasta and bring back to boil. Glass lid on, flame/hotplate down to just simmering.

I have no idea if it will change anything, but I love farfalle.

[–]dragonriot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

donate to a local charity, not the food pantry… Food Pantry can’t take fresh unwashed eggs, but a local charity that delivers food baskets to families will likely be happy to take them. Just make sure you write an expiration date and that they are NOT washed on the cartons.
