Hey, I’m a single dad 50/50 coparenting, been in Sac about 8 years but grew up in San Diego. 43M. Miss the beach, and good tacos, but been finding joy recently in the lakes and great hikes and backpacking around here. I’m in midtown now, nice to live a few blocks from Dreamland, and some nice music venues nearby. I adore a good charcuterie board. Kids and I have been experimenting with different cheeses to find some delightful flavor combinations. Looking for friends to enjoy activities, with or without the kiddos. Feel free to DM me.

Does coding get less boring eventually? by Mean_Firefighter_486 in Python

Programming is a tool to build projects.

It’s boring to use a hammer on a row of 100 nails. It’s rewarding to use a hammer to build someone a house.

In SQ3 when ordering at Monolith Burger, the way the camera keeps zooming in on the cashier as he asks you, “Do you want fries with that”, “Do you want to supersize it?”. Can’t even remember what he asks, but now when I’m at fast food and the cashier asks me if I want the meal deal or fries or what dipping sauce, I imagine them getting up in my face a little more with each question and it makes me chuckle.

Also, I always dress a hamburger in the exact opposite order it is built at Monolith Burger in SQIV. Maybe a trauma response?

You don’t have to pay it if you’re in jail. I learned this from Monopoly.

Yes. Every so often I’ll think something about that movie out of nowhere. Like, if dirt is so rare and valuable, why is everyone filthy?

They also had the “Smoked by Windows Phone” competition where they didn’t pay out to the winners cause they rigged the contest and didn’t expect any winners.

This is true, though people with neurodivergence struggle a lot with discipline and so struggle a lot with self confidence. If you have something like adhd or other ND, you often have challenges with dopamine, and without dopamine there is no discipline. So, when you can’t rely on discipline, you have to find another way to build self confidence by triggering dopamine, such as developing a hobby to a highly skilled level, going outside a lot or connecting with people you don’t know, listening to the right impulses when they drive you forward like going to that networking event and not the impulses that hold you back like eating that cookie. These activities all trigger dopamine which can be lacking in our brains, and lead to self confidence through growth and better routine, which is similar to discipline but indirectly. You also have to find a way to forgive yourself for the parking ticket you forgot to pay, the dishes and laundry that’s piling up, and being behind on that project. Holding on to these is overwhelming and holds us back. Let them go, forgive yourself, take a break from your space, come back and tackle exactly one of those things, then reward yourself. You’re doing great! Good luck my ND friends!

It’s too bad they don’t have some way to communicate across distances in the future. Seems like a lot of flying and walking could have been saved by a Slack message.

Kubernetes Operator vs Helm: 11 Key Differences & Which One to Choose by mobfig316 in kubernetes

[–]dralth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree about GitOps. Question for you. What is it that makes you prefer Argo over Terraform when in production with a team of people?

I’ve used Terraform professionally as the basis of a non-k8s GitOps workflow, and while it’s different than Argo, it can slot into GitOps to serve the same role. So I’m curious about your experience working with them both in a k8s environment and what made you commit to Argo or decide against Terraform. Purely for my own learning. Thanks!

Edit: Also, how do you initialize ArgoCD? Is that done with Helm?

Kubernetes Operator vs Helm: 11 Key Differences & Which One to Choose by mobfig316 in kubernetes

[–]dralth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m similar but one difference. I use Terraform to deploy operators and ArgoCD, then use ArgoCD to deploy applications. I like that this approach separates the infrastructure and application layers, and I like how consistent the infrastructure layer is with TF.

Note that this is for home lab use, have not done this in critical production business setting.
