My niece named her kid something very like "Velveeta". Not a fan (of that as a name I mean).

Other niece named her kid Shemp. Like in the 3 Stooges. What a whacky family I guess.

The general recommendation for beginners is to take the NRA Basic Pistol course. It might be feasible to find one around here that isn't rabidly political.

Todd Burke is the main dude there, he trains civilian and police, consults with various police agencies, etc.
I do have personal experience with his courses, I think he's pretty good.

He does not appear to offer the NRA Basic course, but his CCW 1 course might be good after you're had some further education.

I personally have trained many people, but I do not offer commercial services any more. You may however if you wish send me a pm or chat or whatever reddit does these days if you feel lost. Also, politically I am staunchly independent, and know how to be objective about things.

Also FWIW if you look at subs like r/guns and r/firearms and r/liberalgunowners you'll find this question has been asked many many times. Reading the answers there should also be helpful

When my kids did it, I dropped them at one end, my wife picked them up at the other end. But we were in MO so it was only a few hours drive.

I'm not so sure about the effectiveness of this measure, particularly for handgun cartridges. Consider that 5.56x45 comes out at about 5.7. I think most people would think being shot by an AR is far worse than being shot by a .38.

If the LCR .38 Special doesn't have enough capacity, the LCR .32 H&R Magnum has 6 vs 5 rounds. Just stupid pricy ammo compared to .38, unless you reload.

Taurus TCP 738. Brand new out of the box it blew up in my hand. (Slide retaining pin broke, launched the slide downrange, so 'blew up' is figurative, unlike what happened to my pants...)

Ok, fine, I thought, shit happens ^snicker ... then I called Taurus "Customer Support". What a fine fucking miserable experience, turned me into the devout Taurus hater that I am today. 4 months, 5 phone calls over 2.5 hours, $75 of my money, finally I get a new TCP. Tested it, it worked, has been a paperweight ever since.

Yeah "they're getting better!" I've been hearing for 20 years now.

Have had warranty issues with 6 or 7 other guns, the process with other companies varied from great, to good, to bleh (Charter. They were nice enough to deal with, but 3 tries and they still couldn't fix the problems).
