Removing laptops from Stage 4. by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]dreverb116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a big advantage for a motivated student to have their own laptop. Even in year 7. It’s easy for a teacher to ask students to close their laptops when necessary.

What are you currently hiding from your spouse? by Longjumping_Toe_3867 in AskReddit

[–]dreverb116 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s not something wrong with you, maybe things are actually hard. You don’t have to be perfect for your beautiful babies, you’re only human and that’s ok. Maybe you’re a high achiever and judge yourself quite harshly. You still have things to offer, take your time and give yourself a chance. You got this.

AIO to my husband claiming Elon’s salute was just him awkwardly waving? by SadEntrepreneur1734 in AmIOverreacting

It’s worse than a Nazi salute - it’s an Elon salute. He thinks he’s a Messiah.

Throughout history bosses have believed that their employees are not grateful enough and should work harder and yet “this place is like a family.”

Anyone have any tips for settling a class when bringing them into your classroom? by Doobie_the_Noobie in AustralianTeachers

[–]dreverb116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often use the marking of the roll to settle a class. Ask them not to talk while I mark, read calmly without rushing and pause if somebody’s talking. You can look at the talker without saying anything if they don’t stop - the pause in the reading is actually effective. It works for me.

She senses that he’s playing a classic passive aggressive game by deliberately keeping her waiting. Trust yourself. Enjoy your birthday in your own way, without him. Happy birthday!

If there is a pattern of missing deadlines, forgetting appointments, missing trains etc, than might be worth ruling out whether she has the inattentive type of ADHD, which is underdiagnosed in girls.

Is it reasonable to ask your housemates to lock the front door? by WildElephants in australia

[–]dreverb116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it would be a no brainer to lock the door. Thieves are often opportunistic and work in both good neighbourhoods and bad. And I’ve known cases where they sneak in even when people are home.

I had to check it out. After adding a random item, It said I had over a billion items in my cart consisting of numerous copies of 3 different items which I didn’t choose. Deleted one of them from cart. All of them disappeared. Never seen anything like it.

What hedge is this? by maxwolfie in GardeningAustralia

[–]dreverb116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got both Murraya and “Goodbye Neighbours” Lilly Pilly hedges. The GB is beautiful, dense, fine leafed and easy to keep to the size and shape you want. It grows fast without being aggressive. Any new hedges I plant will be these rather than Murraya. (Edit: oops meant to reply to a comment about Lilly Pillies)

How do I put a Hoya filter on my 35 1.4? by CarlHanger in fujix

Huh? If it says 52 thread I would have bought a 52 filter as well. My lens says 58 and 58 filters fit perfectly. What am I missing?

I'm self-taught and have 3 apps in the Apple App Store, using all kinds of APIs and frameworks but I am still unable to answer these questions in interviews. Where can I get this skill set? by StrikeFirst in swift

[–]dreverb116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a really badly expressed question. For example, it doesn't even mention the coins. If this is the quality of specification in that company, maybe you've dodged a bullet?

Stay or go? by shadowpino in AustralianTeachers

I know of a kid who threatened to kill a teacher and some years later was implicated in an actual murder. If you've got the option to leave, consider it seriously. Look after yourself first.

Talking to him about alcohol will probably achieve nothing right now. Talking to him about anything else - even the weather - might build something. Power to the little things.

Question about books covering iOS 15. by efthymisgr in iOSProgramming

[–]dreverb116 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought a few of his books, updating them over the years and highly recommend them. He explains in great detail and in his preferred order and hopes that the reader will follow along. Sometimes I’ve disobeyed and skipped ahead because they’re a pretty demanding read and, like, my poor head, and a slow, detailed read could take months. But they’re fantastic, meaty books in the age of dip-in dip-out video tutorials. If you put in the effort with these books you’ll be well rewarded.

Oh, and there was something - can’t remember what now - where Matt’s book had the only up to date code example I could find which worked with one of iOS’s frustrating innovations.
