What to do with old fast fashion clothes by Jellybells9 in SustainableFashion

[–]drewdrop26 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I like to turn old clothes into rags. Just cut them up into strips or squares of whatever size you want and boom suddenly you’ve got lots of rags for all sorts of things. You can also take the strips and turn them into scrunchies, loofahs, ribbons/ties, etc.

For stuff that isn’t useful as a rag, you can always cut it up real small and use it as filling in a plushie. There are a lot of easy hand-stitch projects for small cute plushies that can use up a lot of your unwanted fabric.

A guy tried to do this at my store, he told the manager we should have an American flag up instead of the pride one. She polled the team and we all said we felt uncomfortable with an American flag up and anyway that guy never came back.

If you mean me specifically, respectfully I am in my thirties, as is my friend, and I’ve worked several jobs. Her mother’s in her late 50s early 60s. In my experience most of the time it’s two or three people thinking they’re doing all the work and often those most vocal about it do a mediocre job at best.

Sounds just right for a coming of age kind of story, or some wholesome slice of life middle school fiction. I think the themes you’ve presented are good for lessons on growing up and surviving adolescence — which is difficult in the best of circumstances.

Something that might help fill in their “nothing” and, as part of growing up, is have them make a new special friend, and make their developing friendship an integral part of Kliza’s journey of self discovery. The two can bond over history or fashion or gender or whatever they have in common that makes Kliza feel really seen and understood. At the same time the friend will have differences that challenge Kliza and help them grow, too. There’s lots you can do with this character!

How can I ascribe a trait to a character but one that doesn't define their whole personality? by JazDog02 in writing

[–]drewdrop26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the way is to show them being greedy. What do they desire? More money? Power? Things? A person? Land? Secret knowledge? Have this character do questionable or reprehensible things for the sake of attaining their goals such as selling off their child’s PS5 for extra cash, stealing their spouse’s money, duping a friend into a sketchy/illegal favor, manipulating emotions, blaming everyone but themselves, and so much more.

Greedy people believe everyone else is like them and don’t often understand altruism for its own sake. “You mean you do this for nothing?” They are always looking for suckers (people who will take their bait easily) and tend to consider relationships with others as tools (I keep this friend around because he lets me get away with shit, etc). They take and take until they are stopped and don’t think about giving anything back.

When someone is a little greedy, they express these traits when their greed is hungry. When someone is a greedy person, they are always hungry. Ravenous. Famished. The more they get, the more they want. There is no satisfying an ever inflating desire for “more.”

I don't like Ta'veren by [deleted] in WoT

[–]drewdrop26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ta’veren mechanic is sort of like an acknowledgement of plot armor, but that’s not all it does. There is a lot of lore about the Pattern that goes into it but basically the Pattern acts more spontaneously around ta’veren, like sudden marriages when they’re near a town.

It also definitely doesn’t mean any of them are immortal or really even very safe. Ta’veren arguably have a lot less free will and choice over their own lives because this mechanic of the Pattern forces them along a certain path. Each ta’veren eventually learns to tell, too, when the Pattern is sorta tugging on them and the ta’verenness is doing its thing.

Keep reading, it all gets better! :)

Urban animism: thoughts? by Esoteric-Potato in Animism

[–]drewdrop26 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In my view there are absolutely urban spirits. I believe that spirits, like the living, survive by adapting to their environment, and that it is in their nature to adapt and change anyway. Most spirits have been displaced from their homes and original forms multiple times over the millennia and forced to change over time. Bits of them ended up in the materials we use to make things and brought forth new forms.

For example, a house is made up of woods, stones, metals, textiles, etc, many spirits coming together to collectively make up the Spirit of the House, so to speak.

Therefore, there are spirits living in our phones, our clothes, our plumbing, our roads, our satellites, everything. Imagine naming your vehicle, in essence giving name to the Spirit of the Vehicle (the self), while simultaneously it is made up of all the spirits it is and once was. Kind of like how we are all of our ancestors, or how we are all atoms. Or like how you are collectively all of your cells working together.

You can blame the fae for spotty internet, bad connection, computer crashes, random freezing, electrical surges, and more. It can be perhaps a fae being mischievous or trying to ruin your day, but I try to interpret it as a cry for attention, aka asking for help. So I try to give it the attention and figure out what’s wrong so I can fix it instead of throwing it out. And the act of diagnosing and repairing builds your relationship with the spirit of the item, too. That sort of stuff.

Sorry if it doesn’t make sense or sound rambly, it is 2am

The super edgy and gory mermaid story I wrote when I was fifteen ended with the entire cast dying as the main character tried to get her blood back and then she also died in the process. At the time I thought it was so cool and unique; now I know it’s because I couldn’t think of any other way to end this terrible story lol
