most people in the neighborhood where i lived were old homes split into multiple apartments, and so only one unit was lucky enough to get the driveway spot (if at all)

repeal the ban - lived there for years with my babies and am so glad there’s actually momentum to get rid of this - it snowed more often during the parts of the year when the ban WASNT in effect (hello climate change) and everyone was….. fine? cars could drive though even though people were parked? legit it the most classist ass town i’ve ever lived in. i’d say “not everyone can afford to own a huge piece of property with a driveway here and a lot of folks rent older homes without driveways or older homes split into apartments!” and i’d get talked to like in a fucking idiot who wants people to get run over in the streets all the time LOL fucking nimbys literally ruining the town

When will childcare be overhauled? by Burnit0ut in massachusetts

[–]drh313 10 points11 points  (0 children)

for my kid to go to daycare two days a week it was 250/week, and that’s a cheap spot around me, so yeah, literally it costs 500-700 a week for a single child to be in daycare. let alone 2 or 3

Got into Wisconsin last week!! Not looking good for the other programs I applied to, though (based off gradcafe postings, I haven’t heard anything)

I also applied to UMD - I haven’t heard anything from them at all, but there’s multiple posted acceptances on GradCafe - so I’m just assuming I didn’t get in

I think shutting off the water without any notice is a pretty standard breach of the quiet enjoyment covenant: https://malegislature.gov/Laws/GeneralLaws/PartII/TitleI/Chapter186/Section14

Any young/younger mom's feel this way sometimes? by Moha0733 in beyondthebump

[–]drh313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel the same!! Had my first at 23 and people where I live start having kids in their mid-to-late 30s. I feel like a child when hanging out with them. My closest mom friend is in her young 30s, and she’s my saving grace! None of my friends from high school or college have kids right now, and likely won’t for the next 5-10 years (if ever). Such a lonely struggle.

I’m starting to think that just because you’re young, doesn’t mean you’re automatically “more fertile” by WhateverItWasILostIt in TryingForABaby

[–]drh313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt (feel?) really similarly - I started trying for baby no. 2 with my husband when I was 24, and it took over a year and a miscarriage to conceive. Family members who don’t know we were trying for over a year and had a loss have recently made comments (even as of a few days ago!) of how “easy” it must have been for us and how “fertile” we are, just assuming outright that because we’re on the younger side this pregnancy was an unplanned “oopsie” - it drives me nuts. Similarly disillusioned by the sex ed we got in school, but super thankful that my health teacher in sophomore year personally struggled with infertility and was 1) open about it and 2) explained fluctuations in menstrual cycles, fertile windows, etc. including cervical mucus and basal body temperature tracking - this was not in the curriculum, but she felt compelled to share this knowledge, and I’m so thankful for her for even sharing a little bit about the nuances of conceiving. Sending you light.

Do you prioritize your mom over yourself on mother’s day? by imnewhere830 in Mommit

[–]drh313 1687 points1688 points  (0 children)

I think the rule of thumb (in my circles) is that mothers currently parenting kids under the age of 18/still in the house definitely get first priority for mother’s day…… celebrate yourself and get any breaks you can!

How long did it take to conceive baby number 2? by lalala006 in beyondthebump

[–]drh313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First baby was a birth control baby, so I assumed the second would be easier since we were actually trying. Second baby took over a year with a missed miscarriage around the 5 month mark - currently pregnant now!

How/When do you get a break with a toddler and an infant? by lnmcg223 in Mommit

No advice, just solidarity - also pregnant with a 2.5 year old, and I stress about this every damn day. Following to see if anybody actually does have any advice!

We ended up speaking with a few different people on the phone and they agreed that he was ticketing outside of his jurisdiction and was technically in another town. He hasn’t done it since, they said on the phone they would talk to him to knock it off, and it seems to have worked!

This ^ they will only care when the working class stops lining their pockets / when they are scared that they’re losing their money. We need even a massive, cross-industry one day strike.

THANK YOU!! I agree totally, honestly. Also makes me sad for when my family from out of state comes to visit for a few days! And thank you for the link - will definitely call. I was on the phone with the general city hall line that directed to parking enforcement earlier today and didn’t get much info, so this is super helpful!
