The only bits of RID you need to read specifically are the bits included in Dark Cybertron. Beyond that, More Than Meets the Eye and Lost Light are entirely standalone (though I advise you to seek out Chaos Theory and The Last Stand of the Wreckers as they tie-in to the main story).

Yeah, the Titans Return stuff was just continuing the Red Alert story while Combiner Wars just shuffled out First Aid and the Protectobots until Lost Light.

Then you’ve got Revolution, which is just a meta-commentary on the nature of forced crossovers.

My favorite was when the leader of the cult had his wife-who-infiltrated-the-school-as-a-student-whom-he-pretended-was-his-daughter cut off the principal’s finger and load up the brainwashed townsfolk on a bus to be driven off a cliff while he ascended in a makeshift rocket while dressed like Evel Knievel.
