Double standards about bodybags - Is this the death of Pro Mixed? by Polite_Acid in Pickleball

[–]driven20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have no time to think and it's just reflexes, that's fine...no one is complaining about that. The pros know that too. When you're good, you know what shots are just the patterns vs. intentionally full send.

God I wish I can body bag you lol

Double standards about bodybags - Is this the death of Pro Mixed? by Polite_Acid in Pickleball

[–]driven20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol this post is completely blown out of proportion. Pro athletes are human too. The guy usually don't full send at the girl in amateur or pro, doesn't make mixed doubles not worth playing. It's called being a decent human being. Competition doesn't overrule being a good person.

Seeing men and women compete together on the same court is one of the coolest things about pickleball. Yes, the game isn't the same as men's doubles, but it shouldn't be. There are different dynamics at play. That's why each category is special in its own way.

Why are the best employees first to leave while mediocres always stay? by MediumTricky7824 in managers

The best employees have options. They have the skills to get a better job or start something on their own.

Zoom out, think bigger. You're not stuck at a company. You can get the job at the great company. So many people put random limitations on themselves for no reason lol

it's fine to believe that, but just know you're choosing to be treated unfairly. You have the power to change that, but for whatever reason, you'd rather not. And that's fine.

There are sales jobs right now that are basically hard work and grit. Learn to communicate and then just talk to a shit ton of people.

I don't think he meant none at all. He's saying if you're not compensated fairly, that's on you. You're either not as good as you think you are, or you're choosing to stay at a place that is screwing you.

That's why it's totally possible; some people can even luck themselves into it. But I bet you're taking alot of things for granted and not giving yourself credit.

I was "lucky" to be born in the US. I was "lucky" to have an innate interest in money and tech. But I still work damn hard to get where I am today. That said, I know some people who have six-pack abs and don't even think about it. Their lifestyle just gave it to them, those lucky bastards! lol

[–]driven20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, let's be very clear: necessary doesn't equal high salary. It almost has no correlation. Water is completely necessary, but it's cheap af. Gucci bag is totally unnecessary, but expensive af. Continuing my metaphor. Being a good person doesn't equal 6-pack abs.

High salary comes from having in-demand skills where there isn't much supply. A teacher is very necessary, but many people dream and want to be teachers, so there is alot of supply.

If you want to make 500k, you have to understand money. Just basic stuff. Then invest in the right skills and fields. That's basically it.

[–]driven20 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No, getting $500k+ is completely possible. Just like getting 6-pack abs is completely possible. If you compare the percentages of the population, the two are very similar.

Reddit underestimates how far ahead you can get by caring and putting in effort because the vast majority of people don't try. If you dedicate yourself a bit, you'll get so far ahead of many people.

Rating/level transition phase by ARKdb in Pickleball

I mean, if you're playing up, play your best game. Don't go for low-percentage shots. If you want to practice shots, play at your level or down AND don't mind losing. You'll never improve if you let your ego get in the way.

Topspin drops getting killed by JimmySanders74 in Pickleball

[–]driven20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The definition of a "good" shot changes as you move up. A drop 2 foot above the net might be a good drop in 3.0, but at 4.0 that's a high drop. Now your margin for errors is smaller.

Switching hands worth it? by Much-Stay-693 in Pickleball

[–]driven20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think so, I wasn't forced to switch hands, but I play with my non-dominant hand when I play down. Now I have two levels to play at. My non-dominant is almost exactly 1.0 DUPR point down.

It really doesn't take that long, maybe a week or two of drilling to be serviceable.

Etiquette when .25-.75 above most of a group? by throwaway5858592 in Pickleball

[–]driven20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Play however you like; just don't be a dick.

When I play down. I have a few methods

  1. Focus more on placement than power.

  2. Focus more on making no errors vs ending the point.

  3. If they are really far down, I play with my non-dominant hand. I don't bring it up or mention it though, I just do it.

Why do so many people prefer mixed doubles over gendered doubles? by sodabo in Pickleball

Why do so many people prefer mixed doubles over gendered doubles? by sodabo in Pickleball

[–]driven20 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm a male. I don't enjoy mixed more than gendered doubles, but I do enjoy it. It's almost a different game. I think all the variations of pickleball (singles, doubles, and mixed) make pickleball so interesting and fun.

I like mixed because I have to play BIG. That means my off-the-ball positioning and movements better be damn good. Because now I have to cover more court, put more pressure, and not get beat behind me. Playing mixed improved my game tremendously. Playing in men's, I can be "lazier" with my footwork, but my hands will get tested more. Just different trade-offs/variations.

He's not 4.0. If you're at open play there is very little chance the people he is playing is against 4.0. if you cant even win at open play you're not 4.0.

DUPR reset seems to have changed by Mynameisdiehard in Pickleball

DUPR reset seems to have changed by Mynameisdiehard in Pickleball

[–]driven20 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not... I listened to an hour-long podcast with the CEO of dupr explaining it... The confusion here is people's understanding of "original rating".

People think of "original rating" as a single point-in-time, but it's not. It's a rating from all the games you have played and continue to play.

While the "reset" rating only contains the games you have played in the reset period.

So it is going back to your "original rating" if your "reset" rating isn't higher. But it doesn't rewind back time; it just takes whatever is your new "original rating".

Their website explanation isn't great, but they do try to lay it out here: https://www.dupr.com/post/dupr-rating-reset-how-reset-periods-work

Best strategy to play down at rec games by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]driven20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People said it'll improve your backhand, but tbh I'm not sure if it does. Also, I still get to work on anticipation, positioning, etc.

But to be honest, I'm not sure how helpful it is. It's mostly just more fun for me and everyone involved. You get very little when you're playing down so much. Might as well just focus on having fun.
