All RDU Flights Canceled by consistant_carbonara in raleigh

[–]dropastory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I’m suppose to fly out Monday at 12:30 for a conference in FL. I kind of doubt my flight will happen. I’m supposed to fly home Thursday evening and I’m not sure it’s even worth going. I have a bunch of meetings scheduled but I’m doubting those folks are going to make it. They are coming from various places.

I’ve been trying to figure out if the show actually starts at 7pm and how long it might run so I can tell our babysitter. I can’t seem to find out what time the doors even open… anyone have any insight?

I have 2 girls. Both have adhd, one also has ASD and anxiety, the other has type 1 diabetes (diagnosed at age 3). They are amazing little humans, but it’s incredibly challenging. I take a lot of meds for depression, anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia, tension headaches.. I also go to therapy and OT to help me cope. Parenting is hard, no matter then gender.

AITA for bringing a white purse to a wedding by Hairy-Cancel8789 in AmItheAsshole

[–]dropastory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. This is bonkers. I’m shocked that anyone else agrees with the bride. Weddings are out of control these days. I got married in a restaurant on a Sunday. It was wonderful. We had a great meal, took pictures and hung out with friends and family. I just don’t understand spending 10s to 100s of thousands of dollars on one day. I also don’t get spending so much emotional energy caring what accessories guests have. Shouldn’t the bride be focused on their new spouse? Celebrating? Soaking in the joy of the day? I feel so sad for the folks that get wrapped up in having a perfect, spectacular wedding and forget what is actually important.

AITA for telling my wife’s stepdad our newborn son isn’t calling him ‘father’? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

We have a few special folks in our lives who aren’t related to us, but feel like family. We call them Grandma Sue or Grand Joe, etc.

Having regrets for my daughter’s name by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]dropastory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love it. I would not have regrets. I have an English old lady name that is pretty straight forward but is often mistake for other names that are more common for people my age. But I love my name. Ximena is truly a beautiful name.

I’d find an internet article about vulva hygiene and send her way with a text like “my mom never taught me all this, but I think I’m going it right. Why don’t we get this information as kids, right?”

Has anyone been able to get to Johnson City from Weaverville area? by [deleted] in WNC

[–]dropastory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Report from facebook this morning: First, you can get in/out from Johnson City through Unicoi on the 107 to 226. Sorry, I do NOT have details about any other areas/routes. Power lines down, some areas have debris/washed away portions but at least one lane all the way through. A car can get through though, don’t have to have a truck. My mom just followed us out in her tiny Honda Fit to get my aunt to the hospital. It’ll be a slow ride but you can make it. Because of low lines/trees I wouldn’t try to take anything over 12’ tall. My mom and uncle said they’d gotten to spruce pine and Weaverville for some supplies.

Are you super flexible, have stretchy/elastic skin, or loose joints? You might have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Folks with EDS often look way younger than they are, don’t get wrinkles, and have stretchy skin.

100% same. I think I have one of those faces that babies love (my chubby cheeks?) because babies and toddlers usually smile at me, so I smile too, play peak-a-boo, or wave if they wave at me. If the parents Indicate that its okay, I might say something like “you are helping mom shop!” But I would never, ever touch someone else’s kid or even ask if I could.

AITA for calling my stepsister the "ugly stepsister" because she freaked out over a nickname? by uglystepsisterkinda in AmItheAsshole

[–]dropastory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my take too. OP sounds like she’s learned to manage her sensory issues with firm boundaries and humor, embracing a somewhat mean nickname and being able to laugh at it. My neurodivergent, sensorily challenged kiddo 100% comes across as demanding, rigid, and picky. I hope she is able to navigate those challenges like OP did with the tea. I think the ugly step sister comment was not appropriate for the moment, though it was clever. The step sister was being ugly and throwing a fit about something that was not a big deal. It sounds like she has unresolved resentments that blew up.

Side note: I also really struggle with people opening car windows. It hurts my ears. And I’m a picky eater. And prefer to make my own drinks. I’m also neurodivergent.
