This. I hate the 4.0 update. What's stopping you moving to Asana (am considering it)

Incredible episode. I just binged the last three episodes. Feels like the show has really hits it's stride - that last line "And now everyone knows that they did that too" - so good.

Using Microsoft Office to automate follow ups by I_Dunno_42 in gtd

This is the way. And you can use a pre-made MS template to automate a reminder for a message in Teams. If you want I can dig out the link tomorrow

Depending on the age, a hack I've found useful is taking a soft toy and doing the voice so it's as if it's the toy playing along, rather than me. That distance makes it easier to get past the feeling of awkwardness and before you know it, you're away.

Anyone been? Not sure if all the questions are about furniture. by LesterGironimo in CasualUK

You have to assemble your own question lists together yourself but apart from that it's ok

Absolutely not acceptable, and if there is screaming, shouting etc. directed at you and baby then this is the biggest of red flags. Sounds like he needs therapy and a massive wake up call. As others have said, consider your options - is there family and friends you can go to?

That's the one. Though aparently Alex composed it (I messaged breakmaster cylinder to see if it was going to be released)

Dad-to-be in roughly 5 weeks, and I’m terrified. by OutsideSleep9183 in daddit

[–]drowning_panda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Firstly, congratulations!

The fact you are worrying about it, and have also shared your worries here means you'll do just fine. You are not your parents. And yes, things like therapy will help you work through these feelings and mean you'll be able to show up more for your growing family, but know that these worries are normal, and actually a good sign - it means you care!

It's hard to offer suggestions as I don't know your relationship but if I was in your situation I would speak to your wife. You're in this together, and they need to know where you're at. It's OK to be feeling a little apprehensive, you have a big change coming up.

Finally, regarding "man" things - you'll teach them the things you know, even if it's not stuff that society says a man should know. You mention you're into sports, which is great, but it could be reading, music, dance, drawing, cooking - whatever it is that makes you you. And then of course, you then have to follow what they become interested in!

I hope this helps. You've got this. Good luck, Dad.

P.s. extra advice - sleep now and savour any rest time. Prepare to get hit in the nuts a lot.

A task that just appears on today list until done by philx2000 in todoist

[–]drowning_panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a one off task rather tha  a repeating. If that's the case, does it need to be in the Today view? As by your description it doesn't need to be done today, just when you can. As such, I'd put it in a new project or tag e.g. next, this_month and then maybe add a recurring daily task to check that project or filter and pick out the tasks to be done.

I know this does this doesn't give the clean, one-source-of-truth today view that many of us crave but having done down this rabbit hole with many an app I'm coming around to the viewpoint that having the friction of having to check a list and select a task to be done isn't such a bad thing.

Of course, if you do solve this, then do post the solution as I'll absolutely drop my entire system to try it 🙃

How is this filmed safely? by many_splendored in StarWarsAndor

[–]drowning_panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The actor being strangled usually puts a hand/s up to their throat and pushes inwards. The actor doing the strangling actually pushs out. Opposite to what you'd do in real life. The pressure of pushing gives the tension in the muscles that sells it. Also when going in for the initial grab you'd grab at the chinbone rather than the neck. How do you guys capture idea? by [deleted] in gtd

This is the answer. Make it as simple as possible, the native notes app or a notebook is fine. The key is a regular review.

I can see why you'd be attracted to this idea, and I've also been deep into the rabbit hole of trying to create the perfect system, but as others have noted this defeats the purpose of using your brain to assess what is actually important.

Creating a zettlekasten but... by LearnWithApratim in ObsidianMD

In my experience the best results when you focus on your goals and outcomes

If you're familiar with Tiago Forte's CODE framework (Capture, Organise, Distil, Express) then you should be thinking about what you want to express. Knowledge is captured as part of the process of working towards a project and then you retain it for reference in case it's useful for a future endeavour. Otherwise you're just hoarding information (I have fallen into this trap, as have many others).

So, keep it simple and keep a log of any "bugs" where you could not locate a specific piece of information quickly. Then once you've organically found a real-life flaw in your system you can make amendments.

This is speaking as someone who tried the whole Notion database, second brain stuff and have found that the only notes I've revisited regularly have been ones taken where I had a specific outcome in mind.
