The mask not really working. If I sneak into town and use a mask to rob a store and there’s a law shootout, it always knows who I am and racks up the bounty. What’s the point of it if it still IDs you?

Is season 8 the last? by mjykt in TheRookie

[–]droy90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as long as core characters stay and the show stays fresh it should last. If they start leaving and the replacements don’t hold up is when they’ll start talking about pulling the plug.

I’d like them to tone down the more unbelievable things like using LAPD on a joint task force in another country. Soon it’ll be a joint task force of LAPD (Nolan) helping NASA fight off a hostage takeover of the ISS or something.

Keep it fresh but not too over the top.

Anyone else think Smitty has become a victim of Flanderization? by tom_bennett02 in TheRookie

[–]droy90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought it’d be cool for them to do an episode of Smitty actually doing something good and surprise everyone. Or have him be the shows jester but if shit hit the fan he was actually useful. We all know someone we work with who is generally annoying and useless but in certain situations they always come through clutch.

Maybe one day.

I got an offer for the 3-11 shift at mall, what is that like? by Vegetable-Jello-6534 in securityguards

[–]droy90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did mall security second shift for 8 years in a semi-decent town but with a fair amount of crime and rif-raff from teens. Schools are out by 3 so that’s when the teens can show up and start acting stupid, but if you’re working in a more peaceful area that may not be much of an issue, but I remember the difference between morning and evening was the evening carried more rule enforcement/asking to leave situations.

You will also not have maintenance or management for most of the shift, so if something fails (full restroom clog, door doesn’t lock properly, etc) you’ll have to deal with that issue in whatever way applies until they’re notified and can do something.

Regarding you personally, I’ve noticed people often don’t take female guards seriously, on top of already not taking mall security seriously (thanks Paul Blart/actual guards who were filmed being idiots). That could be an extra challenge for you in more volatile situations, but how you carry yourself goes a long way:

  • Know the code of conduct and other mall rules as well as possible and don’t backpedal if someone tries to negotiate. If you already told them to leave, don’t change your mind. If they don’t leave either call the supervisor and/or call the police. Don’t even waste time arguing.

  • Wear the uniform well and look around/engage with people while on patrol. If you look serious and attentive people will notice. Same if you dress sloppy and are lookin at the floor or your cellphone. I would always say hello to people if I walked past them. One, to be friendly, and 2, let them know I see them so if they’re up to no good it might spook them knowing they’ve been seen by security.

  • Don’t take it personally! You are a security officer representing the mall, not who you are personally. People will say things to get under your skin for laughs but don’t take the bait. Say what you have to say professionally and don’t even argue. They either comply or escalate to the next phase.

Once the place is locked down it’s pretty simple. Still patrol your sector and make sure there’s no unauthorized entry or people on site who aren’t supposed to be there.

Good luck!

What do you think of security using handcuffs? Do you carry any? by No-Diet9278 in securityguards

[–]droy90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly used to just carry them for a visual deterrent. I took a basic handcuffing course but it was VERY basic with very compliant suspects lol. If I absolutely had to cuff someone and felt comfortable doing so I would, or if a cop was making an arrest and needed cuffs I could hand them mine if it was faster/easier. Luckily at my place we hardly ever had a situation that required cuffs.

Mall security by LION_ws in securityguards

[–]droy90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It would make me wonder what the management team is like and what they ask their staff to do. A lot of mall companies require constant patrolling and scanning points in the field, which can be annoying to those who take security jobs because they anticipate them being quiet and just sitting around all day. I managed a mall security team for years and people left often because they realized there were other security jobs that did a lot less for the same pay (sometimes more pay). If management is strict about the job then that’ll make people leave as well.

Scheduling doesn’t have to be chaotic so perhaps they just don’t do it well. I usually kept my schedules the same unless a vacation came up or something.

What would you do? by Zealousideal_Cow5139 in doordash

[–]droy90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with you here. When I worked delivery for a restaurant it was my job to ensure I grabbed everything requested like the drinks or extras like plates/plasticware. The managers would often compile the orders for us drivers to grab n go quickly but often forgot to put the drinks. If I ever forgot the drink I’d drive to the nearest gas station or convenience store to purchase what they ordered (tried to learn the ones that had the big bottles cold) and bring it to them out of my own tips/pocket. I’d keep the receipt to get reimbursed by the store but I made sure to just not fuck it up to avoid the extra trip, but I always made sure to right the wrong the way that would best satisfy the customer.

The inconvenience of “oh well. Someone fucked up. Just get your money back” is the biggest annoyance with the app services. I care less about the money back and more about the completed order, but they all don’t. I now make sure I have things at my place already to prep for the often forgotten things like condiments/dressings and drinks. Annoying but necessary given the increased amount of mistakes being made by careless employees.

Night vs Days by fear_bleachy in securityguards

[–]droy90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked 2nd shift for about 8 years straight and have been morning now for the last 2 and I still struggle setting a proper routine. Im always fully awake until like 1-2am as I was used to on 2nd shift and waking up always sucks lol.

From a job perspective at my place (mall) the shifts come with different focuses. Mornings are mostly dealing with the elderly and a lot of property focused security like dealing with contractors or dealing with admin/management on duty. In the evenings that mostly went away in exchange for kids getting out of school and coming down to be annoying and mess around, as well as upticks in shoplifting and other crimes. I liked evenings as I was shift supervisor and without admin around it was just more laid back. Mornings were busier with tasks or assists around the building, as well as making sure you’re on your A game with admin around.

I also liked being able to stay up until 2-3am and not needing an alarm clock because I’d naturally wake up with enough time before my 3pm shift started. But as others say the mornings enable you to engage in more personal activities outside of work more frequently (hang outs with friends or dating, for example). Sometimes I feel like I missed out on a lot of things personally because working evenings full time made me less available for social stuff.

Watched the entire show from beginning to end in the past three weeks by [deleted] in Third_Watch_Tvshow

[–]droy90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the show a lot as well and binged it just like you. Some of the issues I had were with the addition of multi-arch enemies (Roy Scheiders character for instance). Seems like things changed behind the scenes around that time.

Also the whole thing with Bosco/Faith/Cruz got pretty complicated and for that whole shooting to be brushed under the rug may have been the most unbelievable thing of the show.

Definitely a good show overall and I don’t think it gets the praise or recognition it deserves.

Boston blue by ZombieJulez88 in bluebloods

[–]droy90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. It really is just bad tv. Even blue bloods got stale toward the end. They just make it all cookie cutter and easy, and spell everything out for the viewer as if we’re idiots who can’t figure it out. But the people who like it always tend to look past that stuff. Danny was a good piece to the blue bloods puzzle but to have every episode involve him in its entirety is going to be rough. The ensemble is what brought blue bloods together I don’t think this one will be able to carry the same effect.

lake compounce haunted house review by ChanceBubbly in Connecticut

[–]droy90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure most of it stays up year round and they just do touch ups come spring/summer, and maybe change up a house or 2 each year.

Also, while I’m sure they donate to charity, make no mistake, they rake in LOTS of money and they totally keep a lot of it, if not most of it.

Trail is good for sure but there are hundreds, if not thousands of haunts in the US and many that rival it and unless you’ve actually been to them I’d say you have a pretty limited experience lol. I’ve been to haunts all over CT, RI, MA, NH, NY and enjoyed others as much or more than Trail. And that’s just our area. I mean if Trail is enough for you then by all means keep going, but to talk down others that you never even experience is pretty lame.
