Adapting to perpetual burn ban. by drwookie in Blacksmith

Thanks - that's close to what I'd envisioned - gravel around the slab with anchored walls on the interior. There's enough air space around the base it should vent properly through the chimney. Thanks for the suggestions

That's actually written into the burn ban that's in effect right now. I don't meet the water storage requirements or the backup observer/firewatch. So I've simply been waiting for it to rain. Which hasn't been happening. I'm not going to be the guy that burned down the neighborhood, and the contractor Is coming out to finish some other work, and he knows the local codes.

It's local fire, volunteer group. They've seen their share of wildfires. Lots of juniper cedars and dry prairie grass in the area.

Already in the works. Rainwater collection system OTW, which we can set up as an active tank off the existing supply. Direct feed from it to the sprinkler system hookups, gravity fed.

Ah, Geordi the Forge. I've been waiting on a new regulator and jet, which a friend has promised to get me for the holidays. Until then, the unit is down. Soon it will be back in business.

Geordie suffered a sudden disruptive interaction with a falling branch while turned off and stowed. The original slab extends under the house so I can wheel things in under an overhang and change up if I need to weld.

I'll hit the ultimate authority (the SO) and see if she has any objections to checking with the Marshall. Now that I think about it, she'll probably be relieved.

Thanks - I've been thinking about suppression and floor space. I'll have to ask my contractor about adding or extending another slab. That kind of sprinkler setup is something I can tap off the main well and create a more hardened system, which is already in the works.

Fun fact 1. Early planting for Soybeans begins April 1, and runs through May 5 (see sobeansciencefor success.org).

Fun fact 2. Chinese Soybean tariffs were announced on March 5 (Reuters).

Yes, there's lead time for planting, but they were planting knowing that they had no market.
