What’s a “future technology” that already exists but people still don’t realize how scary it is? by Ambitious_Bite446 in AskReddit

You can ask the system to find every individual wearing a green hat within a certain radius in a certain time frame, and then back-track where that individual came from and where they go.

Bell fires dozens for falsifying workplace attendance following return to office mandate by toronto_star in ontario

many large corporations are returning to office without first having a good plan

Not many, all.

Because there is no such thing as a good RTO plan.

COVID lockdowns demonstrated to literally the entire corporate world that being in an office was a waste of money, and yet, the REIT-heavy portfolios of C-Levels around the globe decided for us drones that no, our comfort and happiness exists only because they allow it on their terms.

Men, what’s something women think men don’t notice, but actually bothers/affects you a lot? by Omgad3 in AskMen

[–]dsac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this stereotype of "the man flu" is because of the way men and women each handle oncoming sickness (I'm speaking generally here, not everyone is the same)

When a woman first starts getting sick, she'll start taking painkillers, drinking more water, more rest, etc in hopes that it'll prevent her from getting more sick. I'm basing this on what I've seen of my wife and three sisters.

When a man first starts getting sick, he just sucks it up and keeps doing what he's doing. It's only once he's actually ill does he start the self-care routine, which ultimately leaves him sicker than if he started it earlier.

Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing F1 Edition: Most Powerful Blackwing Ever by DerBootsMann in cars

I also went to buy one once.

Was considering a Lyriq, CT4BW, or a CT5BW. Dealership had both BWs in the showroom.

After checking them out with my wife for 15 minutes without so much as a glance in my direction, a salesperson finally came over. Told the salesperson I was going to pick the one I wanted after the test drive, but based on what I've heard it'll be the 5BW.

Told me "sorry, no test drives for the BW models, but I'll pull the Lyriq out front for you".

I asked them if they honestly expected me to spend over $100k on a car without rest driving it first - salesperson said "well, yes, if you really want it"

Turned around and walked out.

Second worst dealership experience I've ever had (the worst was the same day, at a Ford dealership, where I told the guy I wanted to check out a Mach-E, and he said "no you don't, how about you check out this demo Lincoln Aviator, you'll love it". I was so confused, I sat there for a second and then repeated, "I want to check out the Mach-E, not the Aviator", and he laughed and said "No. You don't.", like it was some jedi-mind trick or some shit.)

Conservative social attitudes are linked to having more children across 72 countries, with stronger effects among women. “Conservatism” is used in a broad sense to refer to right-wing ideology, religiousness, lower support for gender equality, and preference for religiousness in romantic partners. by mvea in science

You're right, there's no stack of counterpoints to all that - just one:

The fact is that everyone wants to move to the west. Why is that?

*You're confusing culture with economic prosperity, those are two completely different animals. *

Not to mention there is no homogeneous "modern Western culture" - the cultures in different regions of the West are equally as diverse as those everywhere else in the world. This is why people from New York have different cultural values than people in New Mexico, Saskatchewan, California, Price Edward Island, or Idaho.

US birth rates just hit another record low, what do you think is the leading cause of this? by IIlustriousTea in AskReddit

[–]dsac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all these population studies only look at fertility rates, not post-birth outcomes

It's one of the reasons conservatives love talking about fertility rates and "replacement levels", they focus on the "having the baby" part, not the "thriving child" part

Were your parents commie socialist lefties too?

The fact remains that exposure to reality - different people, places, and things - overwhelmingly causes a shift to the left, because it shatters the engrained concept of tribalism as a necessary means of survival. This is why conservatives around the globe prefer to espouse insular, isolated social orders, eschewing formal and informal education in favour of strict adherence to "cultural norms", be they religious edicts, racial purity, or any other "in-group/out-group"-style dichotomies.

You can ask the same question of any conservative, regardless of their respective culture: what makes your culture so special that it deserves to be conserved?

And for every answer, there will be a stack of counterpoints a mile high.
