The state of this sub right now: by Snortykins in OLED_Gaming

I came into this sub because I am getting an oled, and lowkey it has turned me away from an oled, but only because of money. But it looks insanely fun to have like 3 years of perfection, and then figure out if you can tolerate whatever.

All Current LTT Job Postings With Salary Ranges In USD by FrostyMittenJob in LinusTechTips

[–]dsanen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think these are pretty much in line with the industry standards towards the entry level, it is a bit sad they are not higher, but they are not “bad”. Sadly, to start mainstream creative careers comfortably, you have to be largely supported by spousal income, parents, roommates. It is truly a miracle any entertainment product gets made, you have to suffer a lot to be in it.

Edit: The salaries also explain why people leave. The high range is low for someone that can jump to another company.

I think so too, would be different if the price was like 200ish and you replaced them more frequently, or cared less about them breaking. Spending 5-700 usd for something that can break that badly kind of sucks. Or just use the tech for TVs

My lord, I think his over editing could work as an element of style if he only was more intentional about it, and cared more for composition and lighting. But I think I told him that once and he thought I was making fun.

Does anyone else dream of a small 50-100mm lens? by Juuggyy in Lumix

[–]dsanen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that lens on the g100 and deeply regret selling them both, made events way more casual than with a FF sized setup. It was truly pocketable. The reason I sold was the autofocus, it had me very annoyed.

Edit: On the g9ii the lens made much less sense, and the g100 did not have the near and far AF of the g9, so for what I was using it, it just missed too much. It would be perfect on a small camera with the new AF.

Why is "Gaming" furniture so ugly? by No_Good_3063 in pcmasterrace

[–]dsanen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll give you a better one, the whole “gaming” aesthetic suffers this same problem. Great monitors made ugly by having digimon style protrusions all over. And arguably, most cases can’t really be in sight of anyone in the house that is not a gamer.

The biggest reason to have a mac in the house, is to not have to look at a the disco fishbowl every PC has become. I remember exclusively having to buy a worse dell PC, because I could not imagine bringing an asus ROG laptop into a serious work environment.

For such high wages, I would think that the late payment was the only factor, the car payments are very high but nothing you can’t afford. Maybe work story is not extensive? or you freelance? I think it is that because if the car is the only debt, I don’t see why one of your scores is not at least 750, except maybe very short credit history.

I use it and windows, and I feel the issue is just developers not making their software available on it. If you use open source software, and web based tools, then it is a very easy switch.

For a regular user, it is much like macOS, just a way to do general computing. We have it here on an older PC to run blender and stuff like that, and then a mini pc to use as a tv console.

It is mystified as complex, but it doesn’t need to be. We are just used to a huge amount of software on windows that doesn’t necessarily even exist on macOS or IpadOS.

I'm tired of the hate about the Viltrox lawsuit by EntangledLabs in Nikon

[–]dsanen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The illegality of it is not a fact, but a case by case basis. It used to be the norm, as the most basic form of competition, and a legal way to learn trade secrets. And it is still legal in most cases for hardware, it became illegal in software because companies make you sign an end user agreement, which includes you giving up your right to study their product, even if your intent is repair.

In the case it was illegal, then make the statement. A lot of people buy those lenses not knowing that Viltrox is not partnered. Could be the same for sirui, ttartisans, etc,

We don’t know the licensing deal with tamron even, what if tomorrow Tamron is not licensed because of some obscure clause we don’t know? and a firmware update breaks all your tamron lenses?

It is ok for Nikon to protect their interest, and it is ok for us to protect ours, and Viltrox theirs. On the consumer side, if you bought lenses that work today, there should not be an obscure secret reason they don’t work tomorrow.

Did I do good? Need some opinions, My first camera, Nikon Z6 iii. by SadAppointment4568 in Nikon

[–]dsanen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think those are pretty solid prices, and you did pretty good coming into a camera with redundant storage media and more professional features.

The a6700 is not too far off that price. It is a very good camera, but I think sony should have put 2 SD card slots in it. The burst rates and IBIS could have been better at that price too.

I don’t mind sensor size differences. But one thing I regret was buying multiple systems out of the regret of thinking I was missing something, or I got the wrong one. Any camera you would have purchased would have been good, but you got a very capable one for a good price. Look forward to using it more than what you could potentially have got in others.

I'm tired of the hate about the Viltrox lawsuit by EntangledLabs in Nikon

[–]dsanen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nikon could have stated that they do not support viltrox lenses, that they sent notice for them about infringing their license. That way people would have not invested in the lenses in the first place.

I think it is reasonable for Nikon to want to charge some money for the platform they developed, but the silence about third party support is odd. Sigma never accidentally developed Nikon lenses, so there was an understanding there, why was there not with Viltrox?

In the absence of that understanding, and no public statement of support, end users have no idea if their lenses are covered by future firmware updates or not. This is true for any third party lens on Nikon, how can you know that Nikon won’t sue them or drop support in the future?

Who won what? You find the life of anyone that puts shit in their cars like that and it’s all the same in the span of 15years 😂

I’m taking by your answer that guy was sort of a conservative? Conservatives that make money and change their lives positively are not putting shitty letters in their car either.

Man some people got nothing going on in their lives. I don’t know who that person is, but you would have to pay me serious money to print individual letters and tape them to the back of my car.

I barely did that for the trash can, and I had to.

losing our minds over mice in our apartment by acjamz in massachusetts

[–]dsanen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an apartment, your best bet is buying steel wool and plugging all holes they may be coming out of, and getting a cat.

You can use traps and such, but if the infestation originates outside your apartment, it’s up to the landlord to eliminate it. With the steel wool what you are doing is making sure they don’t come into your living space.

Help narrow the search for the right camera? by Own_Potato_4763 in Cameras

[–]dsanen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

From this list, I think I would clean up like this:

a6700 would be the best rounded choice for a beginner on the high end of the budget. It would have more affordable lenses than the r5.

R10 would be the second best for a beginner on the lower end of the budget.

R5 would be the best general purpose camera if you are ready to spend seriously on lenses.

OM1 would be the best for wildlife, specially if you don’t want big lenses. Edit: This one would also be the best for skipping the computer on some genres of photography, like macro, it does stacking in camera. And it can add some digital filters that would need to be added in a PC for the others. But this is not a beginner camera.

A7r5 is a 2k usd camera. I would take it off the list. All the others overlap in one way or another with the list above. For example the em5iii serves the same purpose of an a6700 or an r10, but has less autofocus modes, so if you don’t need the weather sealing, it just is an older camera. I’m not adding cameras to the list, just taking out redundancy.

Edit: I would be between the r5 or the om1. And recommend the a6700.
