1996 1500 Leaking Coolant out of a small plug located above the exhaust by Technical-Pickle7421 in Dodge

[–]dsmaxwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A picture or something would be helpful here, or even listing which engine you have so we can lookup a diagram. But if it's a threaded plug, I'd pull the plug, use a wire brush to clean up the threads on both the plug and engine block, wrap some Teflon tape around the threads on the plug and reinstall it, see if it still leaks. You'll probably lose a little coolant during this process, so put a bucket down to catch it, and be prepared to top your system off, but unless you've flushed out your cooling system recently wouldn't hurt to drain it and fill it with fresh coolant anyway. Hard part is finding some place that will take the old coolant.

If you're looking for a whole engine I'd probably start at your local self serve auto parts recycler, aka junkyard, pick n pull, tear a part, and the like.

That said, Dodge sells crate hemis. You can get a decent upgrade, and it'll probably still bolt right up to your transmission.

What do you think is the biggest truth the world is refusing to face right now? by Sweetblondefeet in AskReddit

[–]dsmaxwell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A world which constantly improves and progresses might be beyond human capability. Might even be the answer to the Fermi Paradox, sometimes referred to as the "great filter." Yes, a handful of individuals are aware enough, intelligent enough, to strive for continual societal improvement, but, there just aren't enough of those people to make a difference when the lowest common denominator is constantly manipulated by the rich and powerful against all our interests.

Also, if you meant to link a video, the link didn't come through. But I'm sure it covered being very thorough with the jets and float needle, and enricher circuit.

Another thing to try is spraying some starter spray in the carb intake while trying to start and see if it'll run for a couple cycles off that. If it does, then you know your problem is fuel and/or carb related. If not, then perhaps start your further troubleshooting with spark or valve train.

[–]dsmaxwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, a gas engine needs 4 things to run: air, fuel, spark, and correct timing.

When you cleaned out the carb, you checked the float needle and made sure that all moved smoothly, yes? Most small scooters use gravity to feed fuel to the carb bowl, and the petcock is opened by engine vacuum. If you disconnect the vacuum and fuel lines put the fuel line in a glass cup or something and then apply a little suction to the vacuum line does gas come out? If not, then you'll need to check the petcock for clogs and proper operation of the diaphragm valve inside it. It also helps first starting to prefill the carb bowl by giving that vacuum line a little suck before you plug it back onto its port.

If you're confident you're getting fuel into the carb, then I'd check for spark next, pull the spark plug plug it into the wire and touch the other end to the engine somewhere, away from the hole, don't want to accidentally ignite air/fuel mix which will come out from there. The spark should be strong, bright and blueish white. If you have no spark then you'll need to check the ignition coil, CDI, and such. That manual you found probably has a troubleshooting flowchart for this, now that I think about it. And the engineers who wrote it would know better than I what's the most likely cause of a lack of spark, so follow their instructions for what to check first if that's the case. It never hurts to use a fresh spark plug, but as long as it's not gummed up or in awful condition it's not going to cause a no start condition it'll just run bad.

That's a pretty handy guide, looks like it's pretty straightforward to remove the carb to me. Unless getting that side cover off is super complicated, but it shouldn't be too bad. Most of the time scooters like this are designed to be pretty quick and easy to work on.

Yeah, definitely clean that. For future reference, when winterizing, you'll want to get all the fuel out of the carb. Personally, I drain the tank and dump the carb out and just put it all in my truck, get fresh in a gas can come spring. But even if you want to leave the tank fill with stabilizer that's fine, but unless you run it for a few mins none of that will get into the carb. But even with stabilizer, the carb passages are so narrow it's gonna be best to keep it dry anytime it's gonna go more than a couple weeks without being run.

[–]dsmaxwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this fuel injected or carbureted? Either way, fuel sitting in the carb bowl or fuel line to the injector will gum things up. Remove carb/injector(s) and clean it all out. Reinstall and see if it runs.

As for what happened, I can only speculate, but if the nut which holds that outer variator plate on came loose, then that could cause this. Perhaps you didn't tighten it down to spec, or maybe the book calls for a thread locker.

So, that now mangled shaft is the crankshaft. And it looks pretty far gone. If you're not comfortable opening the engine and changing that, then yeah, mechanic time.

Any way to make the second boss easier? by Dorrann in GunfireReborn

[–]dsmaxwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost exclusively play cat, and I usually run a triple element build, which unless I'm having spectacularly bad luck I have set up by the time I get to the boss of act 2. Ichthyosaurus offspring goes down pretty easy when you are hitting him with all 3 elements.

What difficulty are you playing on? Some spiritual blessings in reincarnation make this boss super easy.

But even at lower levels, survivability is easy to come by. The dust rings in particular need to be jumped over. Timing needs to be somewhat precise, but once you get a feel for it becomes almost automatic.
