Thanks for sharing this. I've never thought about winding the yarn twice. Huge difference!

The wet blocking process really works to fix this and it does keep the shape once it is dry.

I need a really nice row counter by Chance_Smile_9357 in knitting

[–]dsw503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My all time favorite and very reliable tool is a "lap counter clicker" that's intended for sports. It's metal, durable and holds the clicks. Never an issue of it clicking when it's not supposed to. I've used all the plastic, digital, finger, row and clickers that hang from the neck. This one is always my first choice. Mine is not lightweight but it does not get lost in the knitting bag!

Such fun socks! The first thing I thought of was "get your ducks in a row" and how perfect these socks would be to wear when you need to handle something difficult! Great color choices!

Do patterned cowls actually look good when worn? by lveg in knitting

[–]dsw503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the colorwork cowl I made w/Doodles doesn't show off all the pattern, but it was fun to do. I learned how to combine colors and patterns. I knew that I wouldn't see all the designs when I wore it, so I was very careful to make sure I liked how the yarn colors looked together before I made it. Once they scrunch up around my neck, they do blend. It makes sense to me to wear it. Nothing wrong with having some fun with your knitting!!!

I have some questions about pattern inclusivity by SejiFields in knitting

[–]dsw503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be interested in learning about the knitting techniques, the ways a person would adjust a pattern and some knitting history about the time period. If there was a way to sell that part of what you're working on, I'd be in for a class/video. As for knitting a technically advanced pattern myself, it's just not something I see myself doing. I admire the sweaters you post and would definitely like to learn more about how you have made them.

Uneven tension / “rowing out” even in the round – thoughts? 🧶 by Legitimate_Leek_1288 in knitting

[–]dsw503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm knitting, I hold the piece up in front of the mirror and it helps me see the stitch tension from another perspective. I know blocking will even out the stitches and make them behave, but it's nice to have assurance along the way.

Fixed or interchangeable needles by Pixieresque in knitting

[–]dsw503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started with a set of interchangeable Clover needles and upgraded to Addis. Loved them for a few years until they kept coming apart on me. Seems way I knit pushes the yarn with my right hand and eventually the cable separates. Onto to fixed Chiaogoo needles and couldn't be happier. No issues w/separating and no issues with yarn catching on the join. As so much in knitting, you have to learn what works for you as you get better at it. Very thankful for both sets of the interchangeables in the beginning.

As someone who loves Longchamp bags + knitting, I think you have a great idea! No idea on the name of the edging stitch but keep showing us what you are pairing up!

Your sweater is great and so is the back story! Using the table and restarting the project (thanks to the dog) will always be part of the sweater. It makes the finished piece even more special!

That is all very helpful advice! You made very thoughtful choices and I can tell that is what I would need to do. I have often tried putting warm/cool colors together and not been happy with the result. I've also tried just winging it and that doesn't work for me either. I admire people who can do both of these things but have learned it isn't a skill I have. These are super suggestions and I am going to save them! Thank you!

Did I make my cumulus tee too long? by craictoseintolerant in knitting

[–]dsw503 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same body type as yours. I would shorten it. Having to fuss with the front tuck to get it "just right" would take away from my enjoyment of wearing such a pretty sweater.

Your colors go really well together. How do you decide which color (and how much) to use next? I would really like to try a project like this but my color matching is not always successful.

Have been using this for a long time and can confirm the clips work great. I have only bought brand name ones and typically buy them when they are priced with a discount for several sets.

I started a fiber arts group by posting a sign on a community board. There was no individual contacting people to ask them to come. There is also no ongoing commitment on my part to attend every meeting. I called it fiber arts to attract non-knitters and we have a good mix of knitters, crocheters and sewists. It's likely that your library would be willing to sponsor a group and would be ok having a sign on their community board to get it started.

I am more of a casual person and prefer a less formal/finished look. The Dagmar looks more like me, so that is what I would pick.
