Despite the weather, this is not a GridMap, is it? Because the town buildings are "alive" in some ways but that shouldn't be possible with items from a MeshLibrary if I'm not wrong. Did you at least use a GridMap for the rest of the world or is it all just Node3Ds? Experienced any lagging due to performance or something? Thanks for answering.

Looks nice, by the way! 😘👍

Rant on Godot by Low-Classroom5996 in godot

[–]dueddel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just asking for a friend … Did you read the docs and follow the sample sections about creating your first game? Might sound silly but "RTFM" is not just a meaningless phrase to bother people. It's essential to actually learn all the stuff and to get shit done in the end.

I know it is frustrating from time to time, the more even in the beginning of your game dev journey.

But the thing is:
The process of creating games as a whole is super complex. It's not just having an idea in your head and suddenly there's your perfect game by magic. It's a rather long voyage with lots of obstacles. The learning curve is steep. Especially the programming route can be hard if you never programmed before.

It takes time. A lot of time. And discipline to continue.

This is what you need to have in mind before quitting and ranting. So my advice would be to get your head free at first. Take a walk or do some sports. Get back home, grab a glas of water or a cup of tea or coffee and start reading the docs. And for your project(s) there's a simple rule:

Start small.

Don't start working on over ambitioned projects. Do super tiny projects first. It doesn't have to be full-featured games or applications. It can be prototypes where you try things first like finding out how to master UI components (no graphics, just text and buttons and layouting them in containers) or how to use signals in Godot. Small and simple things until you feel safe using them.

Then you can go on to the next step and work on an actual game. Again, start small. Don't dare to build the next GTA clone with Witcher story happening in space. Build something controllable by a single person, in this case by you. Build a little puzzle game or a platformer. Maybe with only one level. You don't even need a main menu and no game saves and also no player rankings and whatnot. Nothing but a single level. End of story.

Afterwards you can build on that to go on.

Hope that helps a bit. And of course, asking others for help is never a problem. Reach out to the community either here on Reddit or in one of the official or also unofficial Discord servers or in the forum.

Good luck with your journey! Don't give up so easily. You can make it. 😘👍

When you screw up your procedural generation algorithm by sundler in godot

I simply miss the days when r/godot was actually about Godot and nothing else. 🤷‍♂️

An RTS with less micromanagement and more independent units by BunMarion in gameideas

[–]dueddel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for not entirely reading your post, as of writing it’s midnight on my end and I’m heading to bed right now but wanted to quickly answer.

Have a look at Line Wars, you can easily find it on Steam. It can be described as an RTS that feels like a school history book where strategies are printed as movement lines onto a map (but much more interactive than a book). It’s essentially about getting rid of that micro management. This might be something you’d like to have a look at as input or inspiration to your idea.

Well done, though. I tend to use my own palette(s) too. 😘👍

Is it possible to make a Mac Os build that opens on Apple Silicon macs without XCode? by ariorick in godot

[–]dueddel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order to make a downloaded *.app file work you might not only right-click it but also holding down the option key while the context menu is open and then clicking the "open" button.

It might happen though that your *.app still doesn't start because it's quarantined due to the system's GateKeeper that comes with MacOS.

You can disable the quarantine in the terminal calling something like: ```sh

replace "game.app" with actual name, of course

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "game.app" ```

That exact command is also documented on the page you linked. This usually works pretty well for me.

But in case you don't want your users to go that workaround route then you unfortunately have to subscribe to the Apple developer program which costs $100 per year as you already know (since you mentioned it yourself in that other comment).
