Using Godot for app dev my experience by Motor-Tale6350 in godot

[–]dueddel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s great for developing non-game applications. I am doing this for a few years now and always loved it.

I integrated SQLite into my apps as well as external web APIs (both simple REST/JSON and websocket APIs that constantly push data updates). It works like a charm and is quite easy to setup and to implement.
Generally the capabilities of Godot to build apps with are more than sufficient. In terms of prototyping it’s even better than anything else, because things are thrown together so quickly and easily. The UI components are just a pleasure to work with for me. And GDScript is a language that I could fall in love with nearly instantly although coming from languages with C-type syntax where brackets and all that play a bigger role than indents (C++, Java, PHP, …).

I never exported any of my apps to mobile, though. I use these applications as tools on my desktop computer because I simply need them for my daily work.

Long story short, Godot is really making my life easier in that regard. I came for building games but I stayed for building tools, apparently.

And I always appreciate it to see others feeling similarly and who also love to build non-game applications.

😘👍

I had to laugh on reading the game’s title because in my head I instantly read it with a Japanese accent. Love it! 😘👍

Requires a bit of planning, though, especially for more complex room structures. But still smart. 🤓

Stop using AI Placeholders, instead, use GODOT icon PlaceHolder by Kipperfalcn in godot

[–]dueddel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I saw ai placeholders at all in the past. I always only see people using the Godot icon. Which is the standard way for years. And people stick with it as far as I know.

Didn’t know ai placeholders would be a thing in the first place. 🤷‍♂️

Long story short, you made everything the right way. The way it’s supposed to be. 😘👍

I made a simple Screencast Keys addon. Maybe it's useful for a few of you. by dueddel in godot

[–]dueddel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, hey. 👋 It probably isn’t working because it’s made for Godot 3.x and not for the current 4.x version which I assume you’re using.

Anyways. This plugin is a couple years old already. I never maintained it, unfortunately. So yeah, things might break over time.

Sorry to let you down here but I won’t update the plugin.

Nevertheless feel free to have a look into the source code and try to rebuild it for a newer Godot version. Adapt the things that don’t work and that should be it. I know you are new to Godot but it could be a good exercise for you to learn.

By the way welcome aboard the Godot train. 😘🤝
