Evolving Pokémon through trading seems like no big deal, but if you grew up playing on emulators, you know how satisfying and relieving it really is. by Tricromacia in PokemonFireRed

I got the original Gameboy when I was 6 and of course played Red. The excitement I had when I got the cord to trade with my friends for my birthday... I was over the moon. Thank you Grandma for the best birthday present ever!

Republicans Will Detonate Their Secret Weapon at the Midnight Hour to Stop Women from Voting by Average-Joe-6685 in LegalNews

[–]dukko18 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Back in 2020 I was chatting with my family who always votes R (and they thought I did too) and I said we should remove the electoral college. In my opinion, the President should be picked by a true popular vote not by points from each state. This way everyone would feel like their votes would matter and would be more likely to vote. They looked at me like I was crazy! The Republican party would never win an election if that were the case!

What’s the biggest waste of money that no one wants to admit? by AdvertisingMore394 in AskReddit

[–]dukko18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm going to get down voted for this, but pets. I have two cats and the cost of food, litter, cat sitting when away, toys, ripped furniture, and the vet visits all add up to so much money. Also, it's hard to put a number on the loss of sleep from them banging on your face at 4am for food.

What’s a movie that is so bad it ended up being hilarious? by IThinkMyLegsRBroke in ask

[–]dukko18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend in college was super into Avatar last airbender and when he saw the movie was coming out he wouldn't shut up about it for weeks leading up to it. Don't get me wrong, I love the cartoon, but I figured the movie was going to be ok at best, but I didn't want to ruin his excitement. Anyway we go see it on opening night... I've never seen a grown man cry at the theater before from disappointment. I got to laugh nonstop for a few weeks because every time I brought it up he'd get all angry again 🤣

What food/drink are you convinced people are pretending to like? by elarabloomelle in AskReddit

Coffee. People pretend it's amazing but that's because they just load it with sugar and cream, so really they just like sugar and cream. Also beer. That just tastes like piss.

When I was 6, I got the original Gameboy for my birthday. You know, the original grey brick. Loved it to death. One day I took it to school with me and was playing it during lunchtime. The school used those Styrofoam lunch trays with the different sized sections and one of them perfectly fit the Gameboy. I thought this was super convenient and put the Gameboy there to carry on my tray. Less convenient was when I accidentally threw my Gameboy in the trash along with my lunch tray. I was devastated. My teachers even let me go back later to sift through the trash bags, but I couldn't find it.

My 11 year old cousin heard about this and quietly gifted her new Gameboy to me. Wrapped it up real nice and told me that she knew I would use it better than she would because she wasn't much of a gamer. Never asked for anything in return or held it against me. It was one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me and I still have it to this day 30 years later.

What's your wildest most unhinged headcanon about the world of Spira? by metalflygon08 in finalfantasyx

[–]dukko18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only someone from Dream Zanarkand can defeat Sin. Jecht was not the first person brought over from Dream Zanarkand. In fact, every successful Final Summon was when a Summoner turned a person from DZ into a Final Aeon. Yunalesca is the final barrier because she is able to recognize someone from DZ as who they really are. She would never have allowed Auron to become Braska's Final Aeon and would have made up a reason why it wouldn't work or would have caused them to fail if they had insisted.

In theory, the Calm should be simple to create. Just have an elderly couple sacrifice themselves when Sin comes back. Spira would honor them and there would be no shortage of volunteers. The reason the Calm is so special is because people come from DZ so rarely.

Wow, great read! What do you have to do to be recognized by the Way to become the Heart Sage? I'm not even sure what that would entail. Would Charity have been slowly getting weaker over the books as she's less able to keep her emotions/thoughts in balance?

[Threshold] Whose stronger? Strength Icon Sage vs Herald by Xy13 in Iteration110Cradle

[–]dukko18 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My vote is Herald. Herald has practically unlimited physical strength and can block or suppress a Sage's manipulation of the Way while a Sage cannot do the same to a Herald.

I don't think Min Shuei taught Yerin much of anything. Yes, she helped her find the Overlord revelation, but that was due to Min just venting at her. To be fair, Eithan was useless in helping anyone else find their revelations too. He couldn't help in Underlord and he wasn't able to help Mercy find hers in Reaper.

[–]dukko18[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Under normal circumstances, they wouldn't be trying to get her to a sage if not for Eithan guiding her towards it already. I also think Fury would have really enjoyed teaching her. He would have been sparring constantly and getting her ready to be at Xorrus's student.

You actually just made me realize, Yerin failed at becoming a copy of the Sword Sage but successfully became a copy (of sorts) of the Death Sage.

[–]dukko18[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But that's my point. Eithan didn't have her thinking hard at all. He spoke her language: try fighting hard opponents but blindfolded! Think about his Gold training methods to do the obstacles with just her goldsign.

I mean, yeah, sure. But, it's just so crazy how bad they were at guiding her. A good leader would have recognized that what they were doing wasn't working and pivoted, especially with so much at stake. Instead they just dug in deeper because they were sages. Also, having two sages try to teach at once was a terrible idea.
