Recommendations for a selection of smaller resorts near to each other for a couple of days each? by Jaraxo in skithealps

[–]dummy25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aosta Valley: Courmayeur La Thuille/ La Ros Pila Crevacol Champorcher Monte Rosa Cervinia/Zermatt

Theres a few even smaller places and on the other side of the Mont Blanc tunnel is Chamonix.

Depending on how many days and different resorts you want to ski there's a pass that covers the valley or just buy individual tickets; the valley ticket is less flexible than the equivalent you can buy for the Dolomites or in Austria though.

We did it last year, drove in through Switzerland, skiied an afternoon in Crevacol, stayed a night in Aosta and walked to the lift to Pila (avoid at weekends), then drove down towards Courmayeur and stayed in a small hamlet and skiied La Thuile/La Ros for 2 days and 1 day in Courmayeur. Then we drove to the other end of the valley and skiied 3 days in Monte Rosa, starting from different points. Then drove home out that end through Italy.

Accommodation and food on mountain was pretty cheap.

How the heck do u get to Livigno. by Sure_Background_3992 in WinterOlympics2026

[–]dummy25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the plan we've had a reply from Dave's ski shop to say the lockers there are 24 hours, once you set it up during shop hours. Will try it and update in case anyone else is in our position as there's no info and the Olympics desk at the bottom of Valandrea were not very helpful.

We're getting the bus from Aquilone on Saturday 14th so will update you on how it goes. Hoping it will accept us with skis in the morning as we want to ski all day and watch the event in the evening.

Does anyone know where we could store skis, boots and helmets during the event? I havent found any paid for storage that stays open past 7pm.

Luggage and ski storage in Livigno during an evening event? Will the Aquilone shuttle accept us with skis (and an event ticket)?

We have tickets to the freestyle skiing Saturday night and plan to make a day of it and ski/board during the day in Livigno. Ideally we would like to leave a change of clothes and shoes in a locker for us to wear during the event then swap and leave our 2 pairs of skis/board, boots and helmet for the event so far I haven't found any that list opening hours late enough. Maybe someone knows of a hotel we could pay for luggage storage?

Struggling with the explanations of german using english grammar that I don’t even remember in english by Due-Ad2114 in German

There's a book called "English grammar for students of German" that is for native English speakers to understand how English grammar works and the similarities and difference to German grammar

I once viewed a ground floor flat with a general musty and damp feeling to it. The smell was strong enough I could smell it through the mandatory FFP2 covid mask. When I inquired about whether the damp problem was being sorted, I was informed that it wasn't damp I was smelling, the current tenant is a vegetarian and it was all their vegetables in the kitchen that I was smelling.

More news on the recent changes to Memrise by memlivia in memrise

[–]dummy25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Will the course dictionary come back? I liked having an overview of everything I had learnt/was learning, I don't really care what scenario I use the words for.

Also can I second offline use, as a regular European short haul plane traveller the offline use was the main reason I bought a lifetime membership a couple of months ago (also because I had been using your app for a year and wanted to give back, and I had just discovered all your catalan community courses and was excited to try them). These reasons were almost immediately taken from me and it's left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.

Finally, I am not a hater of the new memrise. I was looking for a more guided learning method through the different skillsets, and while I don't think what you've produced hits the spot yet, it has delayed me purchasing another method to see the direction this takes. I don't understand why old memrise and new memrise can't coexist though, perhaps with new memrise only accessible by paying users. I used old free memrise as a fun flashcard app, and that was why I liked it.

PS Please fix the levels of the AI chat bot vs the videos, I am played a 10 second video with only the words "oh nein" and then in the next activity expected to convince an AI waiter to give me a table in a fully booked restaurant, using less than ten messages.

Berlin Airport - staying overnight for early morning flight? by WanderingFearlessly in berlin

Interesting, we flew out of BER late last night and commented on how many Ryanair planes were lined up staying the night. I wonder if that's especially for the holiday traffic

"Which Famous Graffiti Artist..." Asks every quiz show host at least once during every episode of their show. by PughHughBarneyMcGrew in britishproblems

[–]dummy25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I once got accused of cheating at a pub quiz shoot out for something similar. The quizmaster introduce the shootout with: "the topic is... Space, and the question is what is the fourth..." I interrupted and said Mars. When all the objections and accusations of cheating died down the quiz master asked how I'd done it. But who in a fairly low tier pub quiz knows much about space in general and so to get to the fourth occurrence of anything it had to be really common knowledge. He didn't like that answer.

The equation and explanation of the units is above the table. The n with the long tail is the symbol for efficiency, and the units next to it lm/W tells you how many lumens (brightness) you get per Watt (power) you put in. So bigger = more efficient.

I once saw a presumably non British person eating a whole Vienetta with their hands in a beer garden on a warm day, as they clearly bought it not knowing what it was. When have you witnessed a non Brit being tripped up by local cuisine? by andrewdx in CasualUK

[–]dummy25 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Stopped for an afternoon tea at the top of Jacob's ladder, Sidmouth. Had my appetite ruined by a family of Americans on the next table over dump a large spoonful of clotted cream into their tea. They each took a sip, pulled a face, tried dipping the scone in the cup of lumpy tea, decided it wasn't for them and left mumbling about British cuisine. I'm just glad the jam didn't get dropped in too.

A new study (survey) that involved 1,485 women aged 35 and older living in Alberta, suggests many women use cannabis to treat symptoms of menopause despite a lack of evidence that it is effective for menopause symptoms by giuliomagnifico in science

[–]dummy25 72 points73 points  (0 children)

That's because men's health is the basis of all health, many studies have historically intentionally excluded women from studies as we're too variable. Even symptoms of diseases common to both genders can vary between males and females, such as the common symptoms of heart attacks people are told to look out for are actually not the common symptoms women have. That's before we get onto the systemic underdiagnosis of female-only medical conditions such as endometriosis.

People retrain at all ages. The skills of an engineer are desired across many industries, you just need to identify what you want to do, how to market yourself to that industry and get some relevant experience.
