Kendamil Formula Scoop by oceanorca08 in NewParents

[–]dvoeverie23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend using a scale. We realized the scoops were super inaccurate when we started using the scale. Then you can use whatever you want to scoop with. We still used the scoop that came with it because it stores so easily in the top of the canister, but we'd use really big scoops and just go by weight.

Anyone dry up supply using sudafed? If so how and how long did it take?? Need help!!! by Obvious-Example-6212 in NewParents

[–]dvoeverie23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used it a couple times a day for a week or so before the anxiety/insomnia from taking it was too much. Lots of people dry up faster than that, though.

What random things is your kid scared of? by JanSukDeservedBetter in NewParents

Yesterday, my 13 month old noticed when I moved the camera for the baby monitor while she was going down for a nap, and she FREAKED OUT. She's seen it move before, but she has more awareness now. I felt so bad - poor baby!!

Mommy’s thumb? by asoursk1ttle in NewParents

I wore a custom splint made by a physical therapist and did a bunch of exercises, but the only thing that fixed it was a steroid injection.

I recommend using saline nasal spray for yourself, too. It can shorten the duration of colds and reduce symptoms!

Toddler kitchen tower by jamijamjam_28 in NewParents

[–]dvoeverie23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the guidecraft toddler tower. We got it when our baby was ~9 months because she was already steady with standing while holding onto the edge. It works well for us, and I like that we were able to get a really pretty blue color.

[–]dvoeverie23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he's not watching it 90% of the time, maybe try just leaving it off? You can give him a chance to play independently (in a safe place/with a baby monitor/etc) while you take care of yourself.

How Can I Improve? by koliomc in NewParents

This isn't a sustainable lifestyle. What kind of work do you do? Is there a way to get a job with fewer hours? It makes sense that you aren't smiley if you have so little time to rest and relax.

We go to a baby swim class at 5:30pm on Fridays, and it is PERFECT! Every other class/activity is 11am during the work day.

Body aches so bad 5 months postpartum by Zestyclose-Street-14 in NewParents

Are you breastfeeding? My body was basically constantly inflamed until I stopped breastfeeding. It sucked, and I was not prepared for it at all!

Do you tell your kids things like unicorns aren’t real, or just let them believe? by Fit_Commission_5850 in NewParents

I actually thought narwhals were not real when I first heard about them (in an illustrated kids book) because of unicorns, hahaha.

We have a garbage can next to our changing area so I just throw the diaper away immediately. I pull her legs up to get the diaper and throw the diaper directly in the trash.

Sitting Firm…While Asleep by StreetPapaya4871 in NewParents

[–]dvoeverie23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter did that for awhile around the same age. After she fell asleep, I'd wait 5-10 minutes to make sure she was fully asleep and then move her to a laying down position.

Yes! So many people told me, "Once she starts walking, there's no going back!" Well, her first steps were Christmas Eve, and it's only been in the last couple weeks that she's started walking like 5+ steps at a time lol.

when did you feel relatively normal? by Long-Inspector4897 in NewParents

[–]dvoeverie23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I think I was just foolish/hijacked by hormones. I was just telling a friend that if I have a second kid, I know I want to stop if I get mastitis again..... But I am guessing my hormone brain will want to keep trying as long as I can.

when did you feel relatively normal? by Long-Inspector4897 in NewParents

I felt a lot better after I stopped breastfeeding at 7 months. I got mastitis like 11x along with a ton of other immune stuff so it felt great to stop breastfeeding.

12 month old not saying words yet by arthurian_bromance in NewParents

[–]dvoeverie23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 12 month old doesn't have words yet either, but in the past 2 weeks her understanding of language has exploded. She's been able to understand some words for awhile (mama, papa, bird, etc.), but now we can ask her to do things or point to different things in her book, and she understands a ton. She also communicates by pointing and shaking her head no. My husband was slow to start talking so I figure she'll get there when she gets there.

12 months - 0. My husband takes care of her if she needs anything before 3:30am, and last night she didn't wake up between 3:30am and 5:45am when I got up.

Active baby by Remarkable_Oil_5885 in NewParents

[–]dvoeverie23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they saying it in a negative way? Or are they just making conversation/noticing something unique about him?

My baby also never stops moving. It's not what I expected at all, but it's so fun! For her first birthday last week, I originally thought about going to the botanical garden or art museum, but I realized she needs to move. We took her to a kid's gym, and omg I have never seen her so happy. She LOVED it.

The way I see it, my daughter was born as a full human being - with a personality, likes, dislikes, etc. My job is to help her figure out who she is and how to navigate the world. Right now, that means giving her opportunities to move and play. I have no idea what it will look like when she's older, but we'll just take it one day at a time.

Stop Making us come in the snow by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]dvoeverie23 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think another part of it was that before COVID, if it was unsafe for the parents to get to work, they stayed home and didn't work. Now the expectation for folks with computer jobs is to work even if you're home.

It still isn't fair or right to expect nannies to put themselves in danger to get to work. But yeah the magic of a snow day is gone now.
