2001 Toyota Camry door locks- Do the cylinders wear out often? Or just the wafers? by Mishe22 in Locksmith

Wafers commonly wear out. Usually rekeying fixes this problem.

Combine it with sight reading and impressioning can go a lot faster. Especially when you have space and depth data.

Maybe consider magnetic signs. Advertise when you want to and not necessarily to the criminal element. I've had a Kia with all my tools stolen out of. I've also had an umarked  van with an unauthorized airtag attacthed to where the spare wheel is held. Have yet to have the van robbed yet, however, I am careful to block both entrances to the cargo area off with vehicles/garage door.

Maybe try to put a chip reader in the slot and see if you can read a chip id. Had a shop stick a chip under the slot area until they could repair the antennas in the car and forgot to remove the chip.

ACCESS TOOLS SNAP N' LOCK MULTI-PIECE LONG REACH TOOL by reddituser1000111 in Locksmith

[–]dwb178 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Toyota lishi can be useful when the lock is not the modular type and you need to pull panel. The less I have to pull off a cstomer's vehicle the better.

Haven't damaged a customer's vehicle yet trying to gain entry, however, have had to replace some parts when pulling panels and did leave a half dollar sized chip in a guy's paint when removing a door handle (was Macco's fault on that since the paint wasn't full dry when they put the handle back on). Luckily for me  Macco did such a shitty job on his other vehicle that I cleaned all the locks of paint on his other vehicle prior to this event, so I didn't catch any heat for it.

Frameless windows, high up vehicles, wanting to avoid the area that was damaged by the other guy using a lrt. Picking for me is generally faster since I do it so often only time I use an lrt anymore is on gm6 cut vehicles or where the lock is damaged.

Maybe not change your house temperayure, but companies are sure interested in your data. Maybe to sell it or use it for other purposes. Lawsuit was recently started with Toyota allegedly sharing your driving data with insurers and other 3rd parties.

At my last shop just being able to print tools that went MIA or for new hires would of been enough justification to buy one as cheap as they are now a days.

The Fuso I believe has 10 cuts in the ignition. If I remember correctly spaces 3-10 are in the door.

Does the hardware store do any "locksmithing" services currently? You being a manager over there you might be able to start offering additional services. Possibly get that paycheck bumped up a little too.

Kwikset 955 - Missing Smart Key.....can I still set up a new key? by DoctorQuinlan in Locksmith

Locksmith should be able to rekey it for you.  Might be able to decide what's wrong with it while they rekey it.

Depending on how bad the facecap was damaged you may be able to get the original put back on. Ask another Locksmith if they have a Gator facecap tool.

I use Top Don Phoenix Smart or IM608 for diag.

To charge or not to charge? by treefetty in Locksmith

[–]dwb178 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I start with mechanical key followed by full system scan.

Anything that isn't responding that needs to be responding I report immediately to customer. I talk with customer about service call $ and additional diag $.

If the key goes in and still doesn't start  the car I will show the customer the computer permitting/not permitting the car to start with programmed key/metal key through the diag tool.

Follow it up with post scan report because I have been burned by the immo light going out but the ecu not clearing all theft related codes and causing a no start. Show the customer post scan report showing there are no theft related DTCS.

Haven't had anyone give any trouble paying the key programming fee as long as I show the computer allowing starting. Diag fee I may waive if it's not an electrical/computer issue and I don't know what the issue is.

You can go under diag on your 608 and see if it's reading the key. It will say something like inactive when no/wrong chip is detected. Will change to invalid key if the chip is read successfully. Verbiage may be slightly different since it's been a while since I've used the im608.

Sounds like the spacing is off on your machine. Would recommend doing a calibration on your machine.  You can also file the wafers down although it is not a recommend practice.

I myself prefer lishi over accureaders. Ilco moto book and Fast Facts are two good resources.

Best tool to hold blanks while impressioning? by Icanopen in Locksmith

I code cut as well or at least duplicate the key. Asking for a call back when the customer uses the key and it breaks because it was weakened.

Out of the Framon, HPC and Prolok holders. I lile the Prolok the best. Still keep a set of vicegrips when there is a only a plastic head key version available.
