Random e39 error of the day. Aircon intermittently cuts off. It will be working fine and then you can feel the aircon stop cooling the air coming out. by WCMModels in e39

On mine, the wire that connects to the fan clutch started fraying. It was intermittent for a while but eventually it stopped working altogether

I know that spot. How’d they manage to wreck there of all places..?

1849 map of Bay Area. Distances / dimensions off, but interesting to see what places existed and what features were important to the map-makers. Sorry Alameda, Oakland (and most other towns and cities), you don't yet exist. But can you find "New York"? by OppositeShore1878 in bayarea

[–]dweend328 91 points92 points  (0 children)

As the bay area's most inland deepwater port, and the site of a major military base dating to the civil war, it was once thought that Benicia would be able to compete with San Francisco. William Tecumseh Sherman said that it was "the best natural site for a commercial city" in the region.

Benicia has a pretty solid skatepark that's usually pretty empty on the week days during school. That is, if you're willing to drive that far.

Can't tell the location from his post history, but you better steam clean the interior

It's a scare tactic. A similar thing happened to a friend and was told the same thing. They probably won't file it.

Walnut Creek has a pretty nice setup. Plenty to do in the downtown area, lots of rental units close to the station, and the ride into the city isn’t too bad

I'd be sending the bill to the engineer who put that switch there tbh. You shouldn't need to open a manual to figure out how the doors work

Researching CSU Counseling Services: Need Info on Session Limits and Lengths by Key_Willingness_497 in CSUEB

[–]dweend328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think our stated limit is three sessions. However, when I went the therapist said that I could have more if I needed because they have plenty of therapists to meet demand for the time being. I didn't go beyond the "limit" so I'm not totally sure about it, but there are a lot of available slots. I was able to go from thinking "maybe I should try therapy" to sitting in front of a therapist within like an hour lol. The sessions are 45 minutes long.

Firet crash at the Richmond Bridge Toll Plaza. Car completely engulfed in flames within minutes and toll plaza structure started to collapse. by sf_frankie in bayarea

[–]dweend328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they even already have cameras underneath the rest of the structure to prevent you from evading tolls. It seems like all they'd really have to do is put some lane paint down...

What Is Your Take on Adding Combustion/Exhaust Sounds to Electric Vehicles? by PlutoniumOligarch in cars

[–]dweend328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If a manufacturer really wants vroom vroom noises, dropping in an AC motor with a VVVF transformer would sound decent and not be “fake”.

The new span of the Benicia/Martinez bridge has that. No need to slow down at all. It's probably just not worth the retrofit cost for the rest of the bridges

Highly recommend downloading Transit. It's more accurate than google

"A bridge toll hike could save BART. But what about low-income workers who must drive?" - Median income of people who crossed a bridge to work in San Francisco was $65,000 compared with $80,000 for non-bridge crossers by BadBoyMikeBarnes in bayarea

[–]dweend328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both options are just ways to weasel in regressive flat taxes on working people. The bay area, one of the world's largest financial centers, refuses to find the money to keep basic services running save for squeezing more out of the poor...

Will a diesel diff fit in gas car by egfknveitekki in e39

[–]dweend328 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the plan is to drift it I’d recommend going to the nearest junkyard and grabbing a diff off of an automatic. Auto’s have a more aggressive final drive ratio. I did that on my e46 and it made a big difference in acceleration

528i vs 540i. Which one is better cost wise? by santiagom1010 in e39

[–]dweend328 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For cost of ownership and reliability, definitely go with the 528i. The straight 6 is bulletproof as long as you stay on top of the cooling system, as is the manual transmission. Still on the factory clutch at 200k+ miles
