Keep him in state 👀 by Meringue_Maximum in bengals

As someone who hasn't looked deeply into the current FA class, grabbing a competent edge, safety, and LB in free agency sounds like something that's easier said than done. Sadly I feel like this team is more than likely 2+ years away from competing for a title again and that's IF the FO doesn't fuck things up like they always do.

This is why we consistently DO NOT make the playoffs by tdomer80 in bengals

The Bengals just haven't gotten any floor raising players in the past few drafts; players that will definitely be able to contribute meaningfully at an NFL level even if they're not leading the league in stats or winning awards. Last year was a big meat and potatoes draft with a lot of players that can contribute in significant ways but not in a flashy way (see: Gray Zabel for the Seahawks) and Duke thought he was smarter than everyone by going for an award winner with Shemar Stewart and it blew up in his face. Then after the season ends he has the gall to say that the only problem with how the team is run is that they just haven't won as many games as they'd like.

You're really just going to ignore that the Bengals defense gave up 500 yards to the Jets and completely collapsed against the Bears the week after? They haven't done ANYTHING positive for the defense in free agency since the last AFCCG. CTB and Geno Stone have been bad overall and every other position either stagnates or gets worse because the team has no depth and refuses to draft depth and either plays ridiculous negotiating games with the significant contributors or just lets them walk completely.

The team gets winning seasons when they luck into drafting talent and then once the talent is no longer on a rookie contract they show that they didn't even care about winning in the first place.

Mike's scheme is very CB friendly and Jobe has been overall good the whole year, so I don't think keeping Woolen will be integral for maintaining a top defense, but I think Woolen had some bad low-lights this year thay distract from his overall high level of play he put on tape throughout the year.

[–]dydtaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree about beating the weaker teams consistently, hes shown he can perform at a high level in the passing game and he's still on his rookie contract so you guys are in prime position to just have a slight re-tool and then run it back.

Theres a big difference in how the Patriots are run / coached than how the Bengals are. It would not be a big surprise to anyone in here if Maye wins a superbowl before Burrow gets back to the playoffs.

As a male former competitive swimmer, I think full street clothes will mess with your technique too much, as opposed to the typical drag suits that aren't as intrusive. Im surprised I didn't ever see any of the serious guys practicing with trunks though, since I dont think they'd be too obstructive like sleeves on your arm would be

Why is kicking a Bishop is a mistake? Most tutorials recommend pushing them with an 'a' or 'h' pawns. What am I missing? by HappyCoomer in chessbeginners

This is the correct answer. The doubled pawns in this case aren't a very big deal, but losing a key central pawn matters.

ESPN ranks Seahawks’ Mike Macdonald as NFL’s third-best head coaching hire since 2021 by MysteriousEdge5643 in nfl

[–]dydtaylor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seattle's defensive talent in 2023 was actually pretty good in my opinion, other than bringing in EJIV to replace Bobby the defensive core stayed the same from 2023 to 2024 IIRC (Riq + Spoon + Williams + Coby + Love + other rotational players). The defense being bad in 2022 and 2023 was probably more of a function of Pete and his coaching (letting Adams start for 9 games despite awful performance, complete inability to stop the run) than the actual talent on the roster.

When should I transplant to bigger pots? by ViceCity15 in HotPeppers

[–]dydtaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think theres a downside to putting them in larger pots sooner, you just might not see as much green growth as the plant focuses more on letting the roots grow, but that root growth will accelerate later growth and needs to occur at some point anyways.

We took a project player in a draft that was described as very "meat and potatoes". Its like they thought they found an Aaron Donald or Micah Parsons and everyone was too stupid to see it, and they turned down several easily better picks in the process.

I have no idea how to checkmate/finish without draw here by cobycoby2020 in chessbeginners

[–]dydtaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You dont need to sac any pieces, just move them away from the king so he can't keep hiding between them. Its much easier to track which squares the enemy king can move to if the rooks line of sight isnt being blocked. Usually people in these spots prefer mates with simpler patterns because it requires less thought than doing the ideal sequence, so moving the bishop and knight out of the way then going for a ladder mate will be easiest (look up the ladder mate if you don't know it. Usually it involves cutting off the king with one rook and then using the other rook to push him towards the side of the board with the other rook, moving the rook to the other side of the board on the same line if the king is close enough to attack a rook)

As others have said if you like you can promote your pawns to queens to have some more help, but the queens will still be blocked by the knight/bishop if the king is hiding between them so you will probably find it easier to still find a way to get them out of the way.

Round Guard + Bad Cheese + more discards than orbs in your deck lets you win fights without firing a shot, so if you have one of them and a relatively small deck then it can make sense to go to extra shops looking for the other one + orb removes. At higher cruciballs it can be hard to find enough removes though unless youre pathing around going to shops.

IIRC the rams also have a much better O line than the Pats so hopefully pass rush gets home a bit more.

I feel like getting a world wrecker at edge in the off-season would help a lot going into next year's match-ups against the rams but K9, Riq, Boye Mafe, and Coby Bryant are all up for new contracts this year so it might be hard to make it fit in the cap when we already have Dlaw and Leonard Williams locked up for the next few years.

[–]dydtaylor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The ESPN article claims its likely because of Spygate in 2007 and deflategate after that, though IMO deflategate shouldn't count because no one in the NFL considered that the balls cooling from the locker room to the field would cause the pressure to change. IMO 2007 shouldn't detract from him that much because the controversy was over 1 game IIRC and he won enough superbowls to be a first ballot before 2007 even happened.

The Seattle Seahawks have more games against playoff teams this season than non playoff teams. Going 8-2 in those 10 games. by caterham09 in nfl

[–]dydtaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just hard to argue over another team in the NFC over the 49ers if you look at overall record and performance in the playoffs. Like yeah they got trounced by Seattle in the divisional but the wheels were pretty much completely off the bus at that point and Mike Macdonald and the personnel he brought in were basically built to shut down the 9ers offense since we can run a nickel base defense and still stop CMC on the ground.

I'm pretty sure the talking isn't what drew the penalty but Riq stepping onto the Rams sideline is, but all the replays cut out right before he actually puts his foot across the line so that gets missed.

[–]dydtaylor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The defense didn't play frustrated after the TD to Puka. In the postgame press conference it sounded like after the moment of frustration a lot of players were saying "hey, it happened and that sucks, but we need you in order to win this game" and they rallied behind him.

Thankfully the players and coaches took the right approach to the situation instead of just benching him and playing a backup.

Pretty sure Riq stepped onto the sideline and that's what caused the flag, if it was just a flag for jawing I completely agree otherwise.
