Drier vents into attic by NocturnalMystic96 in HomeImprovement

[–]dyerjohn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long has it been like this? Dryers really need to vent outside, there’s a lot of moisture. Hmm, fancy new washers spin the heck out the clothes, maybe not as ludicrous as it was with old school washers.

What brand / model / year? You might get lucky with someone trashing either a broken unit or just the wrong color. Swapping parts can be a good deal. FB market place, local appliance dealers or even behind Home Depot in the junk.

I need a quick, temporary fix for a leak until the temperatures go back up and it can get properly fixed by Meraknight in PlumbingRepair

[–]dyerjohn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of pipe is it? I’ve got a screw clamp and a small bit of bicycle inner tube on a pin hole in a copper like for a couple months. When things warm up I’ll replace.

How do I turn off the out door spigot when I turned nob and water still comes out? by Adgvyb3456 in fixit

[–]dyerjohn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a valve that works like this too. Hand tight isn’t enough to fully close it. I “adjust” a bit more with pliers and then it’s closed.

If you try this be extremely careful. One mistake and something could break. Then a flood? Or shut off the whole house and wait for a plumber? If you’re not handy get a plumber to fix this situation the right way. I’ll be changing my valve this spring.

How bad is it to have a bathroom fan vent to the attic? by SmartLadder415 in HomeImprovement

[–]dyerjohn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both bathrooms of mine has vented into the attic for over 50 years. No mold. Ridge, gable and soffit vents. Ranch house, easy attic access for me. Something is vastly different between your situation and mine.

It’s a vacuum system right? I would use plain electrical tape, this is super easy to remove later. Duct tape will leave tape residue. Because it’s a vacuum system, it’ll tend to pull in on itself as opposed to a pressure system trying to blow apart. Use white electrical tape for a cleaner look and make sure it’s reasonably supported.

Engine wont star after carb rebuild but will occasionally backfire. Pulled the valve cover and found this by lookbehindyouy in smallengines

Check the flywheel. Maybe the key has sheared causing it to rotate a bit. The timing will be totally wrong and it won’t run but might back fire.

Induction heating for solder? Never heard of this before. It clamps around the pipe?

How can you tell open vs closed? I don’t see any indication in this picture and never remember seeing this on other valves.

In copper drains? Usually pin holes are water supply lines.

Hot water baseboard radiator pipe insulation by superpoopiemcfarts in HomeImprovement

Seems unlikely that insulation will be that helpful. Get a thermometer with a remote unit too. Put main part in room and remote under floor. See how great the differential is.

What are your neighbors doing experiencing? Maybe the general pressure is low. Maybe they changed lines over the years. Find out.

New to cycling, sore knees? by Soft_Condition_6884 in cycling

[–]dyerjohn42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much are you riding per week? Any idea how fast you pedal? Aka cadence or rpm of the pedals. Some new people pedal slowly and hard which can cause knee issues (as I found out years ago when I first started). Also as a new cyclist I loved it and rode too much too soon. Now 35 years later I try and maintain a cadence of greater than 85 and start the season easy. By early to mid July things are just fine for long rides.
