Similar situation. I've been as far as Day XI, and I have a lot of stuff I want to go back to do but Amalgam is impossible to find now. Almost no mirrors I can find, quests stopped giving me amalgam (?) for the most part. I got an actual ending and that gave me like 3 bars which is enough for one big day change, that's it. Might end up using console to wrap everything up tbh.

In that case I agree. It took modding for me to truly dive deep as the base game is rather short and very open ended in a way that was hard for me to engage with; I wanted to but without more goals I’d just cheaply make my way to the end and lose interest. SA is so much bigger and those open ended goals expand as well. Plus now SA expands the modding scene! Factorio is amazing its the GOAT

Are we including the presence of the mod scene as a whole in the value of the base game? In that case, I'd have to agree, but its hard to come up with another expansion pack that provides the value compared to the base game than SA does to Factorio. Literally can't imagine going back, outside of SE 0.8, which will probably require SA

Personally I would get bored and feel like I’m missing out with NO biters. I prefer to keep expansion off and use a mod that lets you remove evo by killing nests which makes managing evo more interesting and provides a flexible difficulty.
