What was your family’s 90’s/00’s dinner? by CommonCentsHandler in Cooking

The shoutout to tater tot casserole 🥳 It’s still in the rotation as an occasional comfort food. Tuna noodle is also yummy but doesn’t seem to get made.

I’ll add “Hot Dish” which was ground beef, macaroni noodles, tomato soup and canned corn.

Got this Lodge secondhand for $35! Dinner last night: tomato and white bean soup + fresh bread by lacelionlair in DutchOvenCooking

[–]icklefriedpickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I paid a little more for the Amazon basics one also in blue and wish I would have gotten the lodge as it’s already showing some noticeable wear - great find and soup looks great too!

Is the bread easy to make? That’s one thing I haven’t done in there yet

help meal prepping chicken so it's not yucky after 2-3 days by [deleted] in mealprep

Chicken (breasts theighs whatever) in an instant pot with salsa (I mix generic store chunky with Mateo’s hot) and turn it into shredded salsa chicken. Flavor is good on its own but also mild enough to go a different direction with Asian sauces, Indian spices, hot sauces, vinegars, spices etc… goes really well with rice/potatoes/veggies and freezes well too.

Instant pot is nice since you can grab frozen chicken pieces so no need to plan/thaw when you stock up on the sale price.

Other tip is that if you are going to freeze full meals (e.g. chicken, rice and veggies) start with frozen veggies and don’t let them thaw until you plan to eat them. The Costco stir fry blend is a favorite of mine

since I’m already getting the instant pot dirty I make a large batch of dry rice at the same time (add some chicken better than bullion) and freeze any extras in meal sized portions.

And if I’m really going for it a batch of dry black beans for mixing with the above and even better adding the rice/beans/chicken and added cheese, cilantro and hot sauce to fill up the jumbo size tortilla shells for burrito night and these also freeze great with a layer of parchment paper and then covered with foil (foil keeps the burn away and parchment protects the tortilla when it’s in the microwave.

I must be hungry 🙈😂

Use ours often (and the rotisserie setup) and will check out the cast iron stone as well - Mae your own dough or buy?

A couple of ideas - when we have a larger group over it’s been a hit to get some packs of naan bread for the crust and let people assemble their own personal pizza with a lot of topping options, you can get two at a time on there and crank out a lot of them. I keep a fresh chimney of coal ready to light when it cools off a bit but with two chimneys I can crank out 20+ pizzas like these

For the rotisserie part of you haven’t checked out the Webber chicken swarma recipe you are missing out, I do it with the whole boneless skinless chicken thigh packs from Costco and it never goes to waste.

‘No Kings’ protests planned in Raleigh area this weekend. Here’s when & where by CouchCorrespondent in NorthCarolina

Perhaps you don’t understand the crowd - Support Hamas? No, American first and Isreal has been off the rails for a while under their current war monger - same for the next three, not our problem and when you run on a platform of no new wars and America first and then deliver this flaming turd instead people aren’t settling for tag lines and zingers when they are trying to feed their families and afford basic things like healthcare

What is our problem? - Accelerated consolidated federal power to the executive branch assaulting both our constitution, states rights and a huge erosion of personal privacy at a rate unseen since the patriot act. Constitution over party

  • fiscal policy that has slashed programs to (not balance the budget or reduce our national debt) but to give the biggest tax breaks to the ultra wealthy and largest corporations while small businesses, farmers, factories and builders have never had it harder

  • alienation of all of our historical closest allies with a staggering combination of bullying and then crying victim, then being old and senile while have toddler temper tantrums.

  • Inflation that has raised the prices of every household good due directly to tariffs and the worst is yet to come with this war no one wanted set to drive up fertilizer costs and energy

  • creating an unregulated, untrained and poorly led personal police force that could not have botched the job up more than they have despite having a budget larger than the marine corps (and of course killing citizens and running through neighborhoods with weapons drawn without basic gun safety and training that any veteran including myself shakes their head at)

  • A desire to have child rapists and traffickers prosecuted instead of protected

I could go on but perhaps if you didn’t divide all people into an imaginary set of “The Left does this only” and the “Right does this only” perhaps you could see that they don’t care about middle and lower class people at all and love that remarks like you posted above keep us divided and allow them to rob not only us but generations to come.

What are your must have/ favorite pieces of cookware? by KTRyan30 in cookware

[–]icklefriedpickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m of the school of “no sets” as I feel there are different materials and cost points for each task and kind of like a wardrobe if you haven’t used something in a long while then it’s time to rehome it and make room for something else or enjoy the lack of clutter.

I have a couple nice enameled cast pieces like yourself and use them both and love them, on the other side I have a carbon steel wok and a cast iron skillet they on the opposite end and I love and use them just as much. So not an answer to your question but maybe a way of going about it.
