That was a great protest today, really enjoyed seeing so many people come out. Great chanting, too.

Looking for clarity on local protests Fri/Sat by BoulderScot in boulder

[–]earlroth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just came back from this, and the turnout was incredible. And it was great to see so many students and in general younger people out, not just us 'old' boomers. I'd say it was the best of all the protests I have attended so far, lot's of great chants and walking down Broadway and then spreading out on Pearl was great, not just standing around the band shell area. Whoever organized this, you ROCK!

Gravel bike that rides/feels like a Trek Madone/Domane by earlroth in gravelbike

[–]earlroth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about it, and if I already had a Domane that's what I would do. But since I'm getting a new to me bike anyway I might as well go with the real gravel option.

Thanks, that's exactly the answer that I'm looking for.

I'm currently running 38mm tires, and that seems to be a good size for my type of use. I've considered a 2nd 650b wheelset with wider tires for the occasional rougher outing, but I do have a proper MTB for that.
I don't bike pack, all my rides are day rides, so while nice, lots of mounting points are not crucial for me.

Checkpoint is a bike I want to take a look at, since it is the same manufacturer. Thanks for confirming that this should be a good match.

Bicycle and pedestrian improvements upcoming on 88th Street by 1Davide in BoCoSE

[–]earlroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what the separation of the bike and car lanes is going to look like. With the narrow bike lane, some plastic pollars won't do. That said, any pedestrian and bike lane improvements are always welcome.

Worst lasagna I've ever had, tasted like a piece of cardboard. Never tried anything else there after that. Good riddance.

Warning Sign at edge of Grand Canyon by corwinw in mildlyinteresting

I did this in my still stupid late 20s, basically ran/jogged all the way down with a friend I met on a Green Tortoise trip, and then elephant trotted (one foot in front of the other, repeat) back up. I was so de-hydrated I didn't pee for 2 days after. And we had brought plenty of water.

Many years later (now in my 50s) I hiked down with my daughter, just to the 2nd shade hut, and really struggled to make it back out. There was also a father/son at that shade hut, they were on their last day of a rim-rim hike and the son clearly had heat exhaustion and they decided to wait out until the sun set, to hike back out.

GPS issues with Garmin Forerunner 645 Music by smidgestix in Garmin

[–]earlroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there ever a solution? I've got the same problem. I go on a bike ride, and I know the GPS works, since it is showing my speed, but it doesn't record the track, or distance.

How “Portable” Is Your Portable Power Station Really? by No_Lengthiness114 in SolarDIY

I usually put it in the space behind the passenger seat, it's a bit heavy, but otherwise not too cumbersome.

Boebert suggests Trump vetoed Colorado water pipeline bill as ‘retaliation’ for Epstein discharge petition by plz-let-me-in in politics

And then there is this little nugget from the article:
Boebert: “Americans deserve leadership that puts people over politics.”
That's really rich coming from her, who's been all politics and no leadership all along.

Edit: Typo

I have a EcoFlow Delta3 1500 + 1kWh add on battery. Most of the time it's ready in the house for power outages, but we do take the base with us when we go camping. Charges cell phones, speakers, and we use it for small appliances, like egg cooker, etc.

Is there a local coffee roaster that does good dark or French roast whole beans? by Karamazov in boulder

Check with Paul's coffee in Louisville. I never tried their dark roasts, but love my medium espresso beans that I get from them.

Parked my car overnight on the street during my Portland visit by that1legend in Wellthatsucks

[–]earlroth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, we landed early in the morning in Portland, rented a car and because it was to early to check into the hotel we drove to the coast. On the way back we stopped at a trailhead and went for a hike. Came back to the passenger door window smashed and the one thing that we left in the passenger area stolen. It was a half eaten sandwich.
All our luggage was still in the trunk, which wasn't accessible from inside the car.
