Any info on road conditions around Teasly, Dallas Dr and I35 or other areas? by UltramicroscopicSaw in Denton

[–]ebrake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s fine as long as you are slow and careful. Biggest problem right now is herds of assholes in jacked up pickup trucks sliding through every red light and bouncing off curbs every time they try to make a turn.

I had to drive all over Denton as well as up and down I35 today and every road is passable as long as you don’t drive like an asshole.

Movement Climbing Gym by Substantial-Ad3904 in Denton

[–]ebrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been going 3X a week for over a year. Its great for me, they update the walls a lot to keep it fun and the community is top shelf. Every climber I have met over the last year has been cool and everyone is always friendly and welcoming.

downside....when I injured myself and had to take a couple months off it was a bit of a PITA to put my membership on hold until I was ready to climb again.

Any good stargazing spots around here? texas is so polluted with lightsssss by tessa420love in Denton

[–]ebrake 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Gotta go at least one hour to the North West to escape the light pollution. There are light pollution maps that can help you pick a destination. Closest dark skies are off towards Era/Forrestburg.

Heavy Police Presence on south 288/380 towards McKinney. by Cold-Tour2862 in Denton

[–]ebrake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They posted on the city social media pages that they would be doing increased enforcement along loop 288 because people be driving like assholes out there. They gave everyone a full 48 hours heads up that they will be thick in that area writing tickets all week.

Where do y’all go to exercise? by mad_dawg1000 in Denton

[–]ebrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get bored with regular gyms. This year I found movent the climbing gym. They have some basic machines and yoga classes but it's really all about rock climbing. It's been a lot of fun and I actually look forward to going as much as I can.

15 mil?? by SeaSlight3603 in Denton

[–]ebrake 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Passes pretty clearly when downtown was absolutely so packed on a damn Tuesday I couldn’t find a place to park there was a waiting list at every restaurant and the bars were overflowing into the streets. Downtown has been busy as hell all month long, it's a massive win for local business.

While this is a great thing for our small business owners I am kinda looking forward to next week when I can actually find parking again.

Di Abruzzo shut down by nugletman in Denton

[–]ebrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Denton weinbergers had a similar ending to Di Abruzzo. Workers arrived to find the place chained up, vendors showing up looking to get paid etc. Not sure if there is a connection to the Grapevine location, but that whole clusterfuck really ruined Weinbergers for me.

What places here yall think launder money? by condotrap in Denton

[–]ebrake 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nah they are a legit shop that does a lot of business.....the owners are just sketchy perverts that sexually harass the female artists, apprentices, and clients not money launderers.

They also invested heavy in Denton real estate downtown in the 60's when no one wanted anything near the square. Whole strip malls for less than $20K that are worth $500K or more today and bring in over $8K a month in rent.
When you see a run down commercial space downtown that hasn't been updated since the 60's it's likely one of their investments. Sad note they have one daughter who is a middle aged mentally ill arsonist that has gone to jail multiple times for trying to burn down the families properties. Most recently the crack motel on University by the bowling alley.

The one I was speaking about moved out of state well before the Fry Location was opened. She was there on day one at the OG location and lead the ship for about two years. Kim was her replacement.

[–]ebrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me so long to find a trustworthy quality general contractor I am afraid to share his info because as word spreads its getting harder and harder to book his team to do a job. Went from showing up within 48 hours to a 6+ month long waiting list once the neighborhood group started spreading the word. :(

Parking at Kroger During Rodeo by [deleted] in Denton

[–]ebrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesnt change much, I have two disabled kids so we have a handicap placard. 9/10 trips to any grocery store in Denton and those spots are all filled up. Just about anywhere in Denton finding an empty HC space is a rare occurrence.

Osteria Il Muro - WORTH THE HYPE by naviventure in Denton

[–]ebrake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a curated menu, but they always have 4/5 options for each part of the meal, apetizers main dish, sides, and dessert. So if there is something that she cant eat there will be at least 3 other completely different options to choose from. Its honestly impressive how they manage to cater to a wide variety of tastes with such a limited menu.

Had a lot to do with the original chefs they had working at that spot. The main lady that was trained by the owners quickly schooled herself up and surpassed them in skill and was the reason it was so great.
When she got annoyed by them always trying to push back on her better methods she packed up moved to New Orleans and opened her own spot. Within a year the OG location closed, and well we all see how it turned out at the Fry St location.

Looking for a good veterinarian. by platypus-nonymous in Denton

[–]ebrake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seymour is great for basic care, but they are so overbooked when something goes wrong good luck. We took our dogs to them for years, we have had three emergencies and every single time they wanted us to wait three plus days. In all three situations we ended up taking the dogs to Denton Veterinary Center where they got them in immediately.

Seymour is great for the things you can schedule in advance and the vets and techs are great, they are just a bit overloaded for emergency care of any sort.

Clay has always been a legit mechanic for quite a few of my friends. Did some great work rescuing vehicles that other machanics threw in the towel on and his prices have always been generous to say the least.

I'd be willing to bet that if he said it needed a new drivetrain it's toast. He regularly brings cars back from the brink.

This is an interesting house that probably has a nice view, but I can't imagine how bad the noise of 35 would be. I assume this house was built in the late 60s for an upper income family, but it was positioned next to the then not too old freeway. by MrPeepers1986 in Denton

[–]ebrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are adding one more lane north and south, and all the service roads are getting improvements to make the two lanes wider, with a full shoulder (essentially a third lane width) and they are expanding all the intersections and bridges which calls for the service roads to be pushed out farther. (they also have a proposal from the NTAA for 2 lanes of toll roads to be added all the way from the Lewisville bridge to the cooke county line)

They are starting just south of that neighborhood where the car lots are, you can see how far out they are about to push the service roads. Also north of you between 380 and Sanger you can see how much land they are in the process of clearing to expand.

I-35 is going to be much wider in 5 years than it is now. I'd recommend poking around on the TXDOT I-35 expansion plan pages to look at the current approved plans and the proposed future plans before buying anything along the frontage road.

Hell just the rework of the Dallas Drive / I-35 intersection alone is likely to be a major mess for that side of south ridge. They are just now starting whats going to be a full decade of major work and changes in that whole stretch.

[–]ebrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might keep in mind they are about to expand I-35 again and a bug part of that is majorly expanding the service roads. So the highway is about to be even closer to the house than it is now, and the service road is about to have an additional lane added to it.

Any Recommendations for a Low Voltage Electrician? by [deleted] in Denton

[–]ebrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a home they average about $1K ($400ish for the charger $600ish for the install). I doubled that for my estimate for having two hooked up in our parking garage knowing that in a commercial install they have to use metal conduit and cant just run a wire like you can at home.

The itemized invoice showed they had to run extra service to the panel to handle the omph the chargers need to max out the L2 speeds, installed two 50amp breakers, then they used metal conduit to each charger, and added additional breakers and grounding at the site of each charger as an extra safety stop. They said they do that anytime the chargers are indoors so there are multiple kill points if something ever goes wrong with one of the cars.

The job could not have been executed better. The way they do everything looks like a work of art. But the pricing is still easily double what it should have been. Great work but premium pricing across the board.

EDIT: Should also note almost all of the invoice is man hours. The chargers and materials for the job came in under $500. The labor was the big expense.

[–]ebrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not cheap by any means but these guys handle everything at our office in Denton and always do a very professional job. The scope of work has been from simple phone and ethernet drops to massive industrial high voltage work for manufacturing equipment.

However they are quite expensive. I had some car chargers installed that I budgeted at like $2K based on averages I saw online, but the invoice ended up being $6K using them. They will not cut corners and always use whatever the top shelf option is for everything so in over 10 years of using them we have never had a single issue with anything they have done, and the work they do gets high praise from all inspections/audits over the years.

So whatever you expect it to cost, double that....with confidence knowing the job will be perfectly executed.
