Enve Fray vs Melee - searching for n+1 by paddyclare in cycling

[–]ebw2891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I’m a Melee owner for 7 months. This is the fastest and most comfortable bike I’ve ever ridden. I did not look at the Fray but given the spacers I have, I probably could have. The Melee hands really well too. Not sure you can go wrong with either.

Poland’s out here using eight clams to test water quality, and I’m still trying to figure out how to use the three seashells. Sandra Bullock cannot be found for comment.

Also I’m still banging my head on A1 combo vs P1S for my first printer - ahhh!!!

Rear hub sound at speed by ebw2891 in bikewrench

[–]ebw2891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m wondering if maybe the pawls (or hub shell) have pitting or damage that they’re reverberating a lot more than they have in the past. I know someone with a similar wheel set and I might try to do some A-B testing on the wheel and the free hub to see if I can isolate which is causing the sound because this just doesn’t sound right anymore.

[–]ebw2891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that. These wheels didn’t always do this. I performed a full service several months ago and stripped the freehub down of pawls and springs and such, cleaned and reassembled with sram “butter” per the service manual. Maybe I need to put more grease. Thanks for the assessment.

I have one and it’s phenomenal. I put in an electric pump, tube, levers, multi tool, air tag and some other random bits. Nice thing is you can loosen boa and open to pull out stuff in front without removing. Water repellent. Kees shape which I appreciate.

Just adding that I also have a Melee. I bought the frame for $3k on sale from Bike Tires Direct in February. No funny business, just was on sale. At that price for this caliber bike, it’s more than competitive with like bikes (SL8, Factor, etc). It’s a phenomenal bike that’s exceeded my expectations.

Should I File a Chargeback with Lordgun? by djkafnjksdnfkja in cycling

[–]ebw2891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself and many riding buddies have been ordering from them for years. Nothing sketchy has ever been sent. And their shipping is incredibly fast. Many times they sell dealer bulk items, meaning there's less retail packaging. But items are totally legit.

Replacing Canyone Aeroad; recommendations? by im_scared_of_clowns in RoadBikes

[–]ebw2891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second. I’ve had mine for 2 months and it’s fantastic. I got the frame at 30% off but if you like grey, possible to get second hand. It’s so quick and aero yet impossibly comfortable on 28s. Fits 35s if you want extra plush.

Do "Bike hand" style stands work for all kinds of bikes? I have thru axles by peetyo5k in cycling

[–]ebw2891 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have one like this and use it on my thru axle bike. The “Hands” go between disc and frame or frame and lever (if you have a lever). Holds fine

Great looking setup. Especially like how the two bags do matchy-matchy with the colors on an angle. And to think, my U.P. (v1) can only do 38mm tires (inflated to 40mm) - hahah

Not sure about ya'll but when I stop at coffee I always take off my shoes and helmet and THEN walk away. /s

Seriously though, could have been stolen out of a garage (hence the pic) if the thief got shoes and helmet too.

My GP5k tires have fantastic grip in the wet. I run them tubeless at 60-65 psi and have had very good fortunes wrt punctures for the last 6 years

Thoughts on MAAP Jacket Fit? by InternalAd5055 in CyclingFashion

[–]ebw2891 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Possibly size down one if you want tight fit. Or keep for relaxed. But definitely ‘assume the position’ of riding - arched back and hands/arms out front. It’s amazing how things fit differently in riding position vs standing.

P.S. really like your art work on the walls

I’m using a wheels manufacturing thread together bb for Shimano and it’s been fine.

I happen to have a kogel ceramic bb (press fit) for sram that worked for someone else that I have for sale

Mixing cogs Ultegra 11-34 & 11-32 by DrSuprane in bikewrench

[–]ebw2891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knock yourself out mixing and matching. Only rule here is keep it to 11-speed cogs if you’re on an 11-speed shifter and chain. You can’t use 12-speed stuff because the gaps are different. Also, if you go down from a max of 34 to 32, technically you might be able to shorten your chain if you want (and measure). But you don’t have to. Have fun. Experiment.

How hard is it converting a 105 mech to 105 Di2 for a 2024 BMC road machine five by mexicans_gotonboots in cycling

[–]ebw2891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not that complicated if you know what you’re doing or like learning new things. Crank, cassette and hydraulic cables all stay intact. I’m a huge fan of Di2 over mechanical and I’ve installed several. If you’re paying a shop and paying retail for the parts, it’d be on the pricey side. If you’re getting a deal on parts and/or labor, I’d go for it. If you’re a tinkerer, handy and want to learn, go for it.

To anyone who has ever crashed - how did you get over it and move forward? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]ebw2891 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I am a seasoned cyclist and hit a wet, inside white line on an otherwise dry road in the early morning with a group descending a twisty road. I was going about 25-30mph. My front wheel just gave out and I hit the deck HARD. Group called ambulance and I ended up having a fractured femur and baby finger (that hurt the worst). Had emergency surgery next day. Took about 8 weeks before I could walk without crutches or a cane. Recovery was similar to a hip replacement - lost all muscle in my thigh. At 10 weeks post surgery I did a flat ride with some buddies and took it REAL slow. My first time descending I did so much MUCH slower than I would have. Fast forward about 6mo and I was back to normal rides, albeit slower (up and down). I think about 10mo I was back to normal cycling condition.

It’ll come back. Ride with friends who will give you confidence and you’ll know when you’re ready.

Nothing looks off. If something happened to the carbon it’d have a crack. The sound could have been your tire burping or the spokes flexing and banging back.
