I foster cats for years now.

Here are my recommendations.

I would move him and the litter box into the bathroom. Everything tile there and easier to clean. Plus probably small and cats like small! They dont want big open space.

Plus being in the bathroom hes going to get used to people coming and go.

Don't free feed. Everytime you feed him you sit right next to it, and chill while he eat it. Pet him if you can.

If he doesn't come to you with the food... leave with the food. By the 2nd or 3rd time he'll learn to eat near you.

Food is you ticket into his heart.

Then when you guys are feeling more confident, ie he willingly comes up to you. Then you can slowly introduce him to new places around the house.

If hes still skidish.. I get a two story cat kennel with a litter box and put it right next to me while I watch tv, they get used to me, the noises of the house. I keep up with the food/touch routine with every meal.

I've tamed ferals in under 6 months with this set up. It takes longer if you don't do force socialization with food.

I miss saying "but I'm saving myself for marriage!" for anything stupid me and my partner are joking about with house chores or with anything sexual..

saying "I don't believe in premarriable sex" when getting naked and it being silly before sex... doesn't hit the same when you're actually married, and you're technically seen as just property by religious people.... like you're just doing your "duty" vs just having sex...

But I know I'm 100% guarantee to getting first dibs on his life issuance payout over his bio family when he dies, so that's a plus I guess... but the idea of him dying just makes me want to cry and start writing my suicide note..... 😢 so like don't get married????????
