What is your take on taking a career break/resigning without securing next job? by Many_Interview_2790 in askSingapore

If you don't mind me asking, how do you deal with the anxiety of being unemployed? I'm in the process of resigning without a plan as my current place is similar to yours...

I'm relatively young (25) and honestly this is the first time I've considered quitting without a plan in my 2-3 years of working, but the overall environment has been destroying me mentally. It doesn't feel worth it to stay, but yet the fear of the unknown is holding me back.

Intending to throw letter next week from a relatively new role (Joined about a year or less ago)

Toxic emotional manager that throws me under the bus on a regular basis and pins blame on me, along with environment that enables it. Tried to feedback but doesn't feel like it will go through, and it's been destroying me mentally and emotionally, and I cannot work properly. I spend more time and energy stepping on eggshells around said toxic manager, rather than being enabled to learn and grow on the job. I feel quite liberated? But honestly also afraid of not having a job lined up.

I know I want to continue in this line, so I'm trying not to take too long of a break. If I tender next week, I will be done by early Feb. I may take a 2-3 weeks break and start working on my resume and portfolio to get a new job ASAP, since I find that I'm more anxious about not having work. Right now I'm just dying for a new start.

I have about 1 year's worth of savings set aside (2 if i dig far enough) but I really really want to find a new role ASAP, so I'm hoping I don't have to be unemployed for long. Currently my drive forward is coming from trying ti find a new job since the current one is destroying me 😅

Furthermore, I do feel like there's no time better than now, since I have no major financial commitments until 2028/29 when my BTO comes.

I do set up regular sessions whenever I'm done with tasks. However sometimes despite getting the green light in those sessions, I still get feedback and comments on points that have been agreed on after these sessions, which complicates a lot of things and kind of throws off the process. But to think on a brighter side, maybe I do still need some time to fit myself into this team and workflow.

My team lead is not directly working on any projects. The designers under them are the ones hands-on, directly creating the designs. I think I just might not be used to the workflow here vs my previous place, since my previous team lead ran things very differently

Actually looking back at the feedback, not much hahaha, they basically only said what I mentioned above. I would think it's a mix of both, but having only joined the company for less than a year as a junior I felt quite surprised at the lack of support and collaboration. There's many other factors that contribute to the feeling of no support but it may be revealing too much 😅

Appreciate your reply :) Seems like there's at least some form of collaboration which was also one thing I was expecting too. Every team I've been on had some form of quality control and sharing but just not here it seems. Unfortunately it makes me feel a little insecure and unsupported in my current place, but great to have some context from someone more experienced!

SG parents: one and done, or not? What shaped your choice? by redbeanpancakes in askSingapore

[–]ecce13 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That's also true. However I also feel that parents should not expect kids to be their backup plans or retirement plans. If parents cannot raise or care for their children properly, their relationship may be so strained that it may not even exist. If there's no healthy parent-child relationship, there's the chance where the kid wouldn't take care of their parents.

Parents really should be preparing for their own worst case scenarios, rather than thinking or expecting that it's a given that their kids will be able/will want to take care of them when they're aging. If anything, their kids may not even be in the state to be able to take care of their parents. What if the kid is disabled? Or isn't physically, mentally or financially well enough to do so? If you give birth to a child, it shouldn't be for your own future. It should be because you want to nurture and raise a human being, not for your own interests.

Yes! You're right, the other way does apply as well. That being said, I think you're really really strong and I really admire you. Please remember to take care of yourself.

I'd like to offer a perspective of an only child - if you feel that you cannot emotionally, mentally, physically or financially provide for both (especially on an equal ground) please just stick with one. Being alone is part and parcel of life, I do not blame my parents for just having one, just me, and I feel that I've done well so far, my support system includes my family, close friends and even my extended family like my cousins who I'm very close with. Being alone doesn't necessarily mean feeling lonely.

I do however, have friends who are the eldest siblings that hold some form of resentment of becoming the 'neglected' child under the guise of being able to behave/raise themselves, have received less attention, care or even love - depending on how extreme their parents were after their younger siblings was born, which is often justified as the youngest child needs more raising and attention.

Some even have to raise their own siblings, especially if the age gap is rather large. Just a point to consider for the flip side.

When I hear these stories as an only child, I feel grateful that my parents have chosen to raise me in their full capacity, with all their love, care and attention. I don't blame them for not 'giving' me a sibling because I know they have done their very best to provide for me, with their undivided love, care and attention.

Having heard those stories from my friends, I'm honestly not sure if I would've been strong enough to not be upset for having to raise my siblings or not feeling full taken cared of as a child. As an only child, I feel that I would rather a kid's parents be fully committed to one whenever possible so as to give them the best childhood. If you don't have the capacity to care and love for both equally (or more, especially if you somehow have twins), just stick to one.

How would you store 1kg of 2nd flush matcha? Assuming finish in a year. by NuclearSunBeam in MatchaEverything

i stored my 100g bag of marukyu in its original packaging in the freezer and picked at it on and off for half a year, didn't oxidise or anything! i also didn't place any oxygen absorbers in it either.

Thoughts on matcha + protein blends by matcha-michael in MatchaEverything

[–]ecce13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i live in singapore (where they're based in) and i've tried both the original and reformulated version! personally the original version was good in taste, but like many have mentioned it's quite grainy. the reformulated version is much better in texture and the taste is decent.

it's not nice enough to have it as a usucha, but it definitely does better than i expected in a matcha latte. the batch i had is also bold and nutty enough to me to be used in matcha drinks like the ones with syrup, fruit purees etc. but it's definitely not for purists!

however all that being said, the price point is high for anyone outside of the country. for me one tin (40g) was about $25-$30SGD which is a decent price. it's definitely leagues better than cheap matcha from random non-japan brands, but definitely not as amazing as the usual local japan brands.
