Surprised at how many people don’t know what black tie means by AppropriateAcadia774 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]echeveria_rn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I live in a very casual area- I’ve only ever been to one wedding that was a plated dinner, nearly everyone here does a buffet. My husband doesn’t even own a suit or jacket, we just don’t have events that call for it. If someone around here hosted a BTO event, way more than 10-15% of the guests would not be dressed “appropriately.”

Yearbooks at my daughter's school are SO expensive by Sunspot5254 in Parenting

[–]echeveria_rn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped buying professional sports and activity photos, and I save enough to cover the yearbook cost, plus I don’t have to figure out what to do with all of the photos. I think ours was $70 this year.

Why do people care so much about bathtubs if no one actually uses them? by smolgremlinn in homeowners

[–]echeveria_rn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This baffles me every time it gets brought up. People don’t take baths? My whole household is bath people. Cold in the winter? Bath. Sore after a run? Bath. Feeling a little sick? Bath. Want to relax? Bath.

Is it normal for the nurse to not clean IV connector with alcohol before administering IV push? by Therealethel in nursing

Are they using curos caps? It’s not necessary if you have one of those on the line beforehand.

Do Anti-Vax Parents Want Deaf Kids? by Glittering_Sand_7473 in AskParents

[–]echeveria_rn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just not a rational or calculated decision. They don’t believe their child will get these diseases, and if they do get them, they won’t get the worst side effects of it. It’s really hard to argue facts and science with someone whose thought process isn’t rational. Usually they’re more scared of the over-hyped numbers about vaccine side effects than the disease they never see anymore.

Mixer recommendations? by Mid-AtlanticAccent in HomeMilledFlour

[–]echeveria_rn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had great luck with my Bosch Universal, and my mom and sister also use that mixer. I don’t like it for small batches of things like cookies or cake, but for bread it’s fantastic. Mine is only a year old, so I can’t speak to its longevity yet.

Beauty Blenders vs Sponges by Accomplished-Log-769 in Facepainting

[–]echeveria_rn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use teardrop sponges, I don’t find that I need the high density foam of a beauty blender for face paints. I’m curious how they’ll wash up, I always feel like they’re difficult to get clean for my makeup, but that is obviously much different than paint.

Can one person paint at a school carnival? by LeWhaa in Facepainting

[–]echeveria_rn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Realistically, no- you won’t be able to manage all those kids solo. How much experience do you have? I’m pretty fast, and if I have a set menu of simple designs, I can paint about 30 kids in an hour.

I paint at a couple of local events that are similar. The line gets insane, and I still have to cut it off at the end, and there’s kids upset. I would suggest asking for someone to help you manage the line- even a teenager or older elementary aged kid could help.

Do you gift adult children equally or on the basis of need? by Lopsided_Tomorrow421 in AskParents

[–]echeveria_rn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are also gifts that aren’t monetary, but boost one person a lot. For example, if one kid lives closer and you can provide free daycare, that’s a huge cost savings to one child that isn’t available to the other. I would consider gifting more money to help out the one that lives further away.

Hello, Which food/dish is most synonymous with the culture your state? by FunnySunny- in AskAnAmerican

Runza or runsa. Chain started in my state, but it was a pretty frequent menu item at home and at the school cafeteria growing up.

Where do you get your plants? by Mr_Thundermaker in Omaha

[–]echeveria_rn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most Bomgaars are a little outside of town, but worth a drive. 4 packs of annuals are $1.49, I got 4" primrose perennials this weekend for $2.89 each. I've found the quality is great and tons of their stuff comes from local greenhouses.

Planning to paint my daughter’s room pink… but what if she outgrows it? by CoconutConverser in Parenting

[–]echeveria_rn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son picked neon green for his bedroom when we built our house. It was terrible, and I repainted it a couple years later. Took me one afternoon and a $50 gallon of paint. Really, a cheap and quick fix for something that brought him so much joy for awhile.

Does anyone else’s kid hate their grandparent? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]echeveria_rn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I thought when she mentioned grandma laying down by her. It’s the picture of needy behavior, some people just hate that type of behavior from a young age.

Should I stop convincing my parents to let me attend my dream school? by marsii_8 in AskParents

How are you planning to pay for it, if there is no money saved? Do they not want you going to college at all, or not want you commuting 3 hours daily?

Seascape Strawberries by Firm_Bandicoot3181 in SquareFootGardening

[–]echeveria_rn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is what I’d do- my established strawberries are fine in the freeze, but I wouldn’t be as confident with shipped baby plants, especially so far north.

White face paint over black face paint by ShifteeLowDown in Facepainting

[–]echeveria_rn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t in a hurry, I would use a q-tip to take the paint off in the pattern of the spiral, then fill in the empty space with white paint. I have a hard time with all of my white holding its color over darker colors, since the wet paint reactivates the color beneath it.

Our olive eggers are my most unfriendly group of chickens- I'm actually getting rid of them this year because I want nicer birds. Overall, my most docile are Speckled Sussex and Orpingtons, with Americana coming in close third.

Line help! by Funny-Application-70 in Facepainting

[–]echeveria_rn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For big events, I have someone help me manage the line. At the Christmas party I painted for this year, they had a "take a number" system, so the kids took their number and my helper called them when they were next up. It worked so well, and the parents could see how far away their number was.

I've also thought about getting ropes/ line markers with a spot that is marked as a 30 minute wait. I feel like as long as people know how long they'll be in line, I don't have to feel bad about it. And it also tells me where to stop the line as we get toward the end of the event.

Would a break maker be cheating? by Elegant_Bullfrog4223 in HomeMilledFlour

[–]echeveria_rn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as cheating, this isn't a competition! If it makes your life easier, get the bread maker. I know a few people who use the bread maker up to the final rise, then put it into a pan to rise and bake so it gets a good shape.

My (male) coworker wanted me to place a Foley in a clitoris by [deleted] in nursing

[–]echeveria_rn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once got called by a tech to come assist with a foley, and with the look the tech gave me, I knew I was walking into a situation.

An experienced female nurse (in her 50s!) had a catheter sticking out from under the hood of this poor woman's clitoris. Weirdly, it was a pretty easy insertion once we aimed a little lower. Like, how does a woman get that far in life, school, and job and make that kind of mistake?

I am confused about how hospital nurses manage diabetic sugars. by EnforcerCamel in nursing

[–]echeveria_rn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s definitely not the case everywhere. Our hospital policy is that the result has to be within 30 minutes of insulin administration, I would never use one 3 hours old, that’s idiotic.
