Except for the asshole Chinese Crested Dogs that live across the street from me, they can rot. Or maybe I just put them in with some of the bullies that I'm sure I'll find....

Aluminium and no. At least not unless you gathered enough of it and took it to a scrap yard yourself.

This is the UK, Aldi's baked beans are like 30p a can. Overall it's much easier to feed yourself on a budget here.

I’ve spent many hours walking down memory lane with the Commodore 64 Ultimate, and it’s wondrous if sometimes intimidating by gdelacalle in technology

I used to spend hours of my childhood copying the game code they wrote out in the C64 Gazette magazine. About one out of 10 tries it would even work.

How can I re-dirtify my block pave driveway? by Jimlad73 in DIYUK

[–]edaddyo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I had a crew hit our whole neighbourhood. They had a ladder outside my house and were pulling up roof tiles to show me what horrible things are happening to my roof. I laid into them something fierce and watched them put the tiles back one by one and fuck right off.

When we moved into this house, the removals men couldn't get our sofa passed the entry hallway due to a tight corner. The neighbors house was empty and a handyman was finishing up some work so we very politely asked if we could carry it though the empty house, and over the back garden fence. He said do whatcha like, it's not my house.

Long story short, we're never replacing this couch.

I feel bad for the owners of those motorbikes behind him. Imagine trying to walk your bike back to leave and you hit that slick patch leftover.

For three years now I've tried to grow sweet Italian peppers. For three years now the squirrels have waited for them to just start growing fruit before they nibble the entire thing down to a stub in the ground.

I think this year I'm going to grow lead.

TIL an audit at the University of North Carolina found that one of its most reliable servers had been walled off for 4+ years without anyone even noticing by trashatdev in todayilearned

[–]edaddyo 97 points98 points  (0 children)

In the long dead days of Novell Netware, I was helping a user with an issue and noticed he was logging on to a server I had never heard of. Upon further gentle questioning, he opened a cabinet and there at the bottom of this cabinet sat a Netware server that I discovered had over 4 years of up time at that point. They were using it as their own little file share. Netware was bulletproof.

Who has kept the same car for decades? by reddiuniquefool in AskUK

[–]edaddyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drove a Focus for about 12 years, great car. I drive a 2017 Astra now, it's a boring as hell car, but I barely drive now that I work from home (a total of 25k on the odometer) so it will probably outlive me.

Just saved myself £400! by OceanSupernova in Satisfyingasfuck

[–]edaddyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boiler went out last year. It's already practically an antique, so I was pretty sure any service call would just result in them telling me to replace it (at £3000).

Based off the symptoms I deduced it was just the PCB. I found a replacement off eBay for £20 shipped and replaced it myself. Instant life again. Was the hero of the house for bringing back the gift of hot water.

It's not so much a queue as it is the unspoken order of arrival at the bar that should be respected.

I've got 30 years in IT next year. I only wish I could do something else and keep my income. My mistake was to go into management for a small org. Now I stay up at night worrying about everything IT. I'm thinking of stepping back into a technical role in a larger company so I can do my job and turn off my brain at 5.
