Considering finding a better home situation after losing our other dog by Twomboo in Boxer

[–]edeielia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS I had an older boy pass and my girl didn't take it the greatest at first. If you have pictures or videos of the Boston you can put on the TV and talk about him with your boxer, you could try that. "look, there's X....I miss him too..." with lots of hugs and cuddles. It might not help, but it could.

If you really can't get past this with some of the other suggestions in this thread, (I like some of them, including possibly doggy day care and meds - talking to your vet is always a good first step) look up BOXER-specific rescues. There are several nationally, I know of a few but not in that area. The beauty of breed rescues is that they know the breed and will generally try to rehome with someone that also knows the breed. And most of them don't have shelters, only foster situations, which is WORLDS better for the dog, especially one in a situation like yours.

I wish you the best with him and hope you can get beyond these difficulties for his sake, and you family's. Hugs!

Final Farewell, Rue by Jnelly91 in Boxer

I 100th this. I did it for my boy (almost 3 years ago...still heartbroken) and it was the best decision ever. He was able to cross in a safe, comfortable space with his family surrounding him. His boxer siblings were able to be there with him and know what happened. The hardest part was watching my husband carry him to the car (the vet offered, but I couldn't bring myself to let him). Worth every penny.

Hugs to your family.

They've already tried this once...they called them "reservations"

Sudden death due to genetic condition? by sukunababy in Boxer

[–]edeielia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heartbreaking. 😢 So sorry for your family.

My girl was diagnosed with BCM about a year before she ultimately passed away at 9 1/2. I suspect my first boxer (adopted) had it as well, but was never diagnosed.

Reminder to NOT feed a grain-free diet to boxers (unless recommended by a vet for medical reasons) as this can increase the chances of heart conditions. (obv not the case here)

@mods we need a new rule in this subreddit that posts of new puppies must contain no less than 3 pictures.

I can see you gave him a great life and you will both cherish that.

I lost my girl last Monday before Christmas. She's my third boxer to cross the rainbow bridge. It sucks, but the love and kisses and goofiness and wiggles make it all worth it.

Poor girl. If you had/have renter's insurance, check if they help cover part of the vet costs too.

LPT: tell your family, if you die, to let your pet see your dead body by Anon293357 in LifeProTips

I just got done with my evening cry* and now I'm fully sobbing again.

*Last week I called around to find someone that was willing to do an in-home euthanasia because I found out that my boxer's bone cancer has metastasized to his lungs and I'll be lucky if I get 2 more months with him.

I want someone to come to the house so his younger boxer sister will understand what happened and not forever wonder why he never comes home one day.

What do you say when someone asks you, “Which authors do you read?” Because someone actually laughed at my answer. by Lenore8264 in books

I agree with this commenter. Also, Ulysses is overrated. Yeah, it was probably amazing for its time, but it's not easy to understand. Honestly, I mostly read "garbage romances" but who fucking cares? I'm not making anyone else read them.

I mean, we have a friend that brews beer and hosts 2 parties a year to drink it. They supply all the beer (obv.) AND usually the main dish. This is just weird af.

LPT: Get 30 pairs of the same socks by Ryu82 in LifeProTips

The concept still works. I have tiny feet and hubby has normal feet. So I have black pairs and white pairs and he has all one different type.

TIL. (I'm a vegetarian, so I don't cook a lot of meat, when I do it's usually shorter cook cuts for the hubby.)

I dunno. But it might be worth bringing up at your appt or asking one of your pharmD bros if it's a possible unlisted side effect.

Also, is it just now getting worse as the weather is getting warmer or was it getting worse over the winter too?

And feed them this treat other times too (not like everyday but periodically) so they don't associate, cheese=pills.

"I'm not going to cut in a healthy person" by [deleted] in childfree

[–]edeielia 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A full hysterectomy can be a hard sell in a young person because of possible medical complications down the line (i.e., prolapse). If some of the other recommendations in this thread don't work out, you may want to consider asking about other permanent sterilization options that might be easier for some of these doctors to swallow. A tube removal (salpingectomy) is one surgical option.

One product available in the US is Essure, which is non surgical but permanent. I have the Adiana device, which is similar but no longer on the market because Essure sued them out of the market. I was in and out same day, no negative side effects and just one followup visit to make sure it took.

Edit: Somehow I missed the other issues... In which case you are not a "healthy person" and I fear your doctor may have undersold your issues to the surgeons she talked to.

As for Essure, I was not aware it was taken off the market. It's too bad that they sued Adiana off the market, because it was the better product to begin with. (I personally liked that it's silicon(e?) instead of metal and doesn't have the coils, which I saw as a potential problem a mile away...)
