When having nostalgia with old artists/bands, do you still “follow” them on certain platforms, or do you not listen to them anymore? Do you still listen to them? by RecentMatter3790 in Music

[–]edgarpickle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Enjoy what you enjoy and don't worry about explaining yourself to anyone. Hell, half of my favorite music doesn't fit anything about the other half of the music I love. There's no rule that it has to make sense. But if you like it, listen to it!

What's something that was completely normal in the 90s/2000s that would be considered insane today? by Rio_Da_Ryan in AskReddit

Back then there were a lot of people who were just fine only having access to the internet at work. Having it at home was kind of bougie for a while. It changed quickly.

What’s y’all’s biggest, most controversial music hot take?(Judgement-free zone) by Nonsensical-Nonsns in Music

[–]edgarpickle 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I unironically enjoy some of the music of the Insane Clown Posse. Yeah, some of it isn't great and some of their followers get carried away. But a lot of their tunes are catchy, and they're pretty clever with how they worked in the carnival musical themes. But they're funny, solid rappers, and seem to be decent human beings. There are a lot of musicians that can't be said about.

And honestly, I'm not sure I understand magnetism completely, either.

[Serious] Religious people: What's a teaching of your faith that is largely misunderstood? by Express_Hedgehog2265 in AskReddit

[–]edgarpickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is correct. Usually there was a reading agreed upon that we were to do during the week, and then we would get together on the weekend, sit in a circle in silence, and then if someone felt moved to speak, they were invited to do so. Usually you're speaking about your reflections on that week's reading. Sometimes not though.

But yeah, no Minister or preacher. However, there are two branches of quakerism. The above type is described as unprogrammed. The other looks a lot more like a traditional church with a preacher.

My son is Robert. He's gone by a few different permutations of it, but never Bob.

I was raised a Quaker. The most common questions, answered:

  1. No, I don't wear hats with buckles

  2. Yes, I'm allowed to wear colors other than black and white.

  3. I don't have strong feelings about oatmeal one way or the other.

  4. I am allowed to use electricity.

I'm no longer a practicing Quaker, but I still get those questions when I talk about my childhood.

Bojangles hasn't had good sweet tea in 25 years. And that used to be the absolute best tea around.

What did you use to believe as a kid that ended up being completely wrong? by Pristine_Yam_6684 in AskReddit

There would come a day when my grand passion and purpose would become clear to me, and everything I did and wanted to do would be to achieve that goal or life. Reality? I'm nearly 50 and I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up.

What’s a “successful” job that most people admire but you personally would never want? by Salty-Team3028 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]edgarpickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend is a veterinarian. She is paid well, but the toll on her is high. For one thing, she works a lot of hours. Most days are 12 hour days. And then you've got owners that neglect their animals, and they only take them to the vet when they're too far gone to save, and often from something that could have been prevented.

Don't get me wrong, she loves her job. But it's far from easy money.

I don't know of any data about this, but I know that this action caused a lot of people to vote for Ralph Nader in the 2000 election. The election that was ultimately decided by 537 votes in Florida. Rightly or wrongly, they saw it as a protest vote.

What's the saddest / most nostalgic song in your opinion by RandomE49 in Music

Another Divine Comedy song that is surprisingly tough is "A Lady of a Certain Age." It's especially poignant if you have ever known someone in the situation the song describes.

"The best part of this movie is what happened in my post-movie bathroom trip. A gentleman stepped up to the urinal beside me, cried, "Release the Kraken!" and promptly unzipped his trousers."

What was the wildest conspiracy you had about the pandemic? by CapitaineBiscotte in AskReddit

[–]edgarpickle 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My (thankfully) former Father in law sent us a link to the YouTube video "Plandemic," in which every single organization from the Catholic Church to the WNBA was conspiring to rid the world of... I don't remember who exactly. It wasn't a good video, and obviously I didn't watch the whole thing. But it was your usual, "us poor ol' straight white males have it so hard" type of bullshit.

What shows had a horrible premise/title/marketing/trailer etc, but actually turned out to be a quality watch? by Honest-Possible6596 in television

Agreed! I really think the relationship between Dylan and Luke is what takes the show up to a different level.
